OCCUPATION: Goddess of youth MEMBER GROUP: Asgardian AFFILIATIONS: Asgardian, canon POWERS AND ABILITIES: Being half-Asgardian, Idunn, like her sisters, is granted much the same enhancements as the AEsir. Seen as ‘average’ of Asgard, on Midgard, these enhancements are often see as superhuman. Strength: Through strong work and physiological differences, Idunn is capable of lifting near twenty-five tons, at most. This is at full strength, and she does not regularly try to lift anything near that amount. Speed: Idunn can run faster than Usain Bolt. Averaging around 50mph, she can push it slightly higher if she is in danger. Her reflexes are also above average compared to a Midgardian, capable of catching an arrow fired at her if she is aware of it’s trajectory. Stamina: Most humans fatigue rather quickly when pushed to their limits, but being of both Asgardian and Dwarven physiology, Idunn’s stamina is pushed to superhuman levels of ability. Her wakefulness, on Midgard, can last between two to three days before she tires and needs to rest. Durability: Her skin and body composition is capable of taking much greater hits than the average human body. While still susceptible to injury, it takes more energy to hurt her and longer for wounds to become something she needs to actively tend to. Longevity: Idunn can live hella long. She’s basically an infant in Asgardian years. Healing: Not quite “superhuman”, but when injured, it takes considerably less time for Idunn to heal that a base human would. A broken bone may recover within two or three weeks. Small wounds and bruises a few days at most. Godess of Youth: Unlike most Asgardians or Vanir who are regarded for their abilities with certain topics such as magic, Idunn has a special ability amongst the Gods. Her age is retarded beyond the exceptions of Asgardian merit. As such, she is comparatively much younger looking than her sisters. This power or ability is only granted to Idunn and she can’t change it, exchange it, swap it or drop it. Sword & Battle axe Idunn is also a capable fighter if she ever needed to defend herself, as well she is proficient at black smithing, fishing, hunting, embroidering, sewing and cooking. Apple pie and cider Singing Family Children - She’s the Goddess of Youth, and babies are cute DISLIKES: The ocean - salt water is not conducive to growing conditions for trees and plants, and there’s entirely too much of it on Midgard. Rudeness - raised to respect those around her, Idunn does not abide rudeness or cruelty around her Loki - he’s a massive jerk face Fire - controlled is fine, but unchecked it is a destructive force STRENGTHS: Perseverance Knowledge Loyalty Friendship Being the keeper of the apples of youth WEAKNESSES: Naive Sheltered GOALS: To have a family of her own, at some stage. FEARS: Abduction, losing her tree, losing her family OVERALL PERSONALITY: Bossy & Stubborn - Growing up the oldest Idunn is the stereotypical bossy older sibling. She gets snappy when things don't go her way, and they usually have. Along with being bossy, Idunn is also incredibly stubborn. When she wants something, she won't stop until she gets it. If someone tells her no, she goes the other way almost simply to spite them. Respectful & Polite - Despite being bossy, Idunn also knows how to keep her tongue in her mouth when it counts. Respect was an important lesson to her and her siblings when they were young and the lessons stuck. Regal & Proud - She's a princess. When it comes to formal occasions, she's far more graceful than usual and she takes her formal duties seriously. Idunn is also a creature of profound pride. Not so far as to be ‘up herself’, she’s just proud of who and what she is and likes to show it whenever possible. Gentle, Compassionate & Caring - Idunn is an incredibly gentle and compassionate person. She hates to see anyone hurt or upset and shows an incredible level of sympathy towards anyone who appears to be in pain or upset. Bold & Brave - In her choices and in the face of danger. Though she might be scared or worried on the inside, Idunn does not like to let most people see that and comes across as someone who is ‘together’. More of a ‘fake it til you believe it’ type thing. But also, off the battlefield, when Idunn makes a decision that many would deem above her head, she lifts her chin and faces it head on. She isn’t afraid to fail. Calm & Peaceful - Possibly the most useful trait Idunn possesses is her strange ability to remain calm. It would almost seem as if nothing phased the young princess, or she was never afraid, or that she never got angry but she doesn’t find a use for anger in her every day life. It is rare to find her losing her temper but when she does… watch out. Capable & Independent - Idunn is also a capable person. When someone asks if she needs help unsolicited she is not happy, and will enforce the use of the rest of her personality traits if anyone dares. She likes to do things on her own when she can. Cheerful/Happy & Excitable - If there's anything Idunn tries to be it's chipper. No-one likes a Debby Downer, and Idunn just enjoys being the one that people can turn to and she's there with a smile. Her cheerfulness is only increased tenfold when she gets excited. She becomes something like a buzzing entity of happiness and nerves. Curious & Daring - Idunn likes to know things, and learn new things and see new places and experience new things. She's curious, and she's got a millenia and a universe ahead of her. Unfortunately, she's also daring, and some of those new experiences aren't always for the best for the young princess. Feisty - When Idunn is feeling short with people, she almost throws out all of her calm gentle nature and becomes snappy and sarcastic. Affectionately, most of the other Gods on Asgard labelled her 'feisty'. She doesn't mind, and the attitude can show even when she isn't tired or stressed. Fighter- Literally, a fighter. Idunn was raised by both dwarves and aesir, if push comes to shove, she'll pick up an axe and start swinging. Hard-working - When any task crosses her path, Idunn commits herself to it and doesn't like to give up. Honest & Trustworthy - Hospitable & Understanding - Young, Naïve Playful - Idunn likes to have fun a lot, and often times, she can come across as childish or innocent because of it. Also, as much as she likes to learn and grow, Idunn has still been fairly sheltered until the Asgardians. Especially now being on Midgard, she has a lot to learn. Intelligent - All children go through schooling, and Idunn is no exception. She’s had a millenia of improved learning under some of the best tutors in the realms and it shows. Idunn has a thirst for knowledge and is always looking to improve on what she knows about any topic that she doesn’t know. Hot-tempered - Idunn is usually the one person you’ll never think could get angry, but when something occurs that annoys her, she isn’t afraid to blow up and start yelling. Shy - Despite her strong, calm, playful, open demeanour at most times, Idunn also has the tendency to sometimes shut down and be incredibly shy. She tries push past it because she knows when she gets to know someone they will see the real her, but it’s obvious she is holding back on herself. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: BIRTHPLACE: Vanaheimr RESIDENCE: Asgard, or with Sigyn PARENTS: Iwaldi | Father | Ancient Freya Njordsdottir | Mother | Ancient SIBLINGS: Iwaldidottirs: Syn Sigyn Sjofn Lofn Var Snotra Nanna Odrdottirs: Hnossa Gersemi IMPORTANT RELATIVES: No IMPORTANT PERSON: OVERALL HISTORY: Born to an Aesir and a Dwarf Kind, Idunn’s mother, the Aesir, left them to be raised by their father on Vanaheimr. As the eldest, Idunn was regarded highly by her parents, her father especially. She wasn’t treated so much as the eldest, and that duty fell to her other sisters. Idunn was an inquisitive child and often accompanied her father to his forge and watched him work and helped him with his smithing. By the time she was 6, Iwaldi helped her forge her first blade, a small thing that was more use for eating with than for fighting with. It was then that Idunn also started taking an interest in plants and growth. Having made a knife “by herself”, she wanted to try her skills at everything else as well. Before Idunn had reached maturity, Iwaldi could see in his daughters the looks they took from their mother and her heritage and, realizing that he wanted a better life for them, took his daughters to their new home, and to their mother, Freya, in Asgard. Idunn, Syn, Sigyn and Sofn, at their age, became ladies-in-waiting to the All Mother, Frigga. Each daughter of Iwaldi in her service had their own special personalities and where her other sisters were taught in their crafts with their mentors, Idunn felt like she didn’t have one. Not until she was roaming the gardens of Asgard one day and came upon a tree to the East and sat down by it. The tree that Idunn had taken a liking to was the tree of immortality. A youthful looking thing that was in its first blossom. It happened that, at the time of her own exploration of the gardens, Odin had taken time to explore them for himself and came upon the young lady admiring the plant. He sat down with her and explained the history of the tree, and how he was appointed by his father Bor to care for the first tree of immortality. The tree had never blossomed, but a few years previous, Odin had been struck with a dream to take a cutting of the tree and plant it in the gardens of the palace. This was the first time he had seen it start to bloom. Odin thereafter placed the responsibility of the tree and it’s health on Idunn, granting her the title of Goddess of Youth and Immortality. Finally, Idunn felt like she had something to look forward to, and was placed under the guidance of Jord, and occasionally, Ēostre and Sif. Under the guidance of those gods and goddesses proficient with growth and harvest, the tree flourished and finally, after ten seasons, the first fruit bloomed from the tree. Odin was at hand to witness it along with Frigga, Idunn’s sisters, and Idunn’s mentors. The first apple was a golden thing, very different to the other apples that grew on Asgard, and when Odin attempted to pluck the fruit, found that it would not come away from it’s stem. Sif attempted next, as the Goddess of Harvest, but the fruit would not budge for her either. Frigga suggested the Idunn try and take the fruit next, and after a careful moment, the stem snapped from the branch and the first fruit was passed to Odin. From then on, the tree would only break it’s fruit for Idunn, though it became a competition to see if any of the other Gods were capable. Even Thor was not worthy unless Idunn presented him with the fruit herself. As she grew older and remained sheltered under the belief that if she were to die, the Gods would start to age again, Idunn found that she liked her job as the keeper of the apples. Very few gods were not permitted to eat from the tree, and it was easy enough to control as she was the only one who could harvest from the tree, which had grown considerably in the years after. On one outing, Idunn had visited the world tree Yggdrasil, and they were both witness to the fruits that grew identical there. Odin suspected that it was his grandfather who had first taken a clipping from the tree and planted it in the halls of Asgard, but he had never seen the apples bloom on Yggdrasil. Feeling a calling to the tree and it’s fruit, Idunn walked up to it and attempted to take one. After a brief moment of hesitation, the apple came free and Odin suggested to Idunn that she eat it. Idunn did not, and kept the apple in a secret place. Now she had two trees to care for, as the fruit, if left on the trees, would start to wilt, or so she had been taught by her mentors and with the burgeoning pantheon behind her, Idunn started to take more trips to Yggdrasil, but generally was accompanied. On one of these outings, she was abducted by the frost giant Þjazi. Thankfully, it was before she could take any fruit from the tree of life, but she was still rattled by her experience and thankful for her rescue. Returning to Asgard, Idunn didn’t leave the great halls without an escort, and she found one in the God of Poetry, Bragi. She acted as his muse for a time, and they spent many days talking and singing together. Before she knew it, Idunn had developed a love for Bragi, and although Bragi, too, had developed feelings for Idunn, neither of them acted on them. For the next few millennia, Idunn was content with her life on Asgard. She had friends, and family, and stories, and she had a very important job. But eventually, she started to become restless with the desire to see more of the nine realms beyond Asgard. At first, she went back to Vanaheimr to see her father, with an escort, and presented him with a basket of golden apples. In return, after hearing about her abduction, Iwaldi gave his eldest daughter a knife that was much more suited to protecting herself from any further attempts. Idunn was on Asgard when the other eight realms were witness to the collision of Midgard. Knowing that her sister, Sigyn, had been in the realm at the time, Idunn felt it was her duty to find and make sure that her sister was okay. Worried about her time spent on Midgard, she took a flowering clipping of Yggdrasil and planted it in Asgardian soil, convincing Heimdall to send her to Midgard in search of her family.
