"Oh, you know. Full of aliens," Jess called back through the comms, taking down another that was in her way. She didn't have much juice left, but she still had enough to stop a Chitauri or two from stabbing her. Which was good, as she disliked being stabbed, much like most people. Still fighting off the aliens as she moved through the field to check on the agents that were with her. They all seemed to be faring pretty well for the moment, despite the overwhelming numbers of creatures bearing down on them. It was still a bit of a relief that the Elves had switched sides, however, as that was certainly helping with their chances. [break][break] Cursing slightly as a strike from one of the Chitauri grazed her side, Jess aimed her pistol at the thing's head and fired twice, watching as the thing fell before moving to the next one. These things weren't that difficult to take care of with the assistance of the weapon that had been built for that exact purpose, but there were just so many of them that Jess still felt overwhelmed. She turned to the next target and fired again, emptying her mag. "I need more ammo," she called into the comms, a few other agents chiming in that they were getting low as well. [break][break] Jess worked her way through the field of battle, eventually catching sight of Dugan himself, complete with his idiotic bowler hat. "How do you keep that thing on your head so well?" she questioned as she got to his side, breathing heavily while she fought off the creatures around them. She winced as one of the blasts from the Chitauri guns hit her side, returning fire in a more deadly manner and watching him drop. That left her empty in both pistols, however, without ammo incoming yet. She took a spear off a Chitauri body and kept fighting.

Thanos. Thaaanos. Thanos. He rolled the name over in his mind trying to think of where he had heard it from. Oh he knew who Thanos was, he had been involved with that debriefing and he had been paying attention. Kind of. Still hearing the name had jiggled something loose in his brain, something he was having a hard time remembering. Thanoooooosssss.
Oh that was it.
Manos. Hands of Fate. God that had been a horrible movie. Yet some how it had managed to become quite the cult classic; and one he had seen more than once to boot. It probably was best that Jess wasn’t here or else she would probably wind up smacking him when he inevitably mentioned it to her. He really did have a hard time with keeping his mouth shut when he probably should. Fury was probably right when he’d said Dum Dum had been dropped on his head to many times as a child.
He was getting distracted. Where was he? Oh right. Thanos. Hands of fate. He’d like to say that changed some things but it really didn’t. Hell, he would like to say that he was going to pay more attention to what was going on in meetings but that would probably last all of five minutes or so before something came along to distract him. It didn’t take much.
The elves teleported themselves elsewhere, something he found a little more disconcerting than he cared to admit. It was just weird seeing them all standing there one moment but gone the next. Jess’s comment came through his headset making him snort with amusement. ”Ah good, and here I was worrying you were going to start getting bored.”
He threw himself happily into the fray, gun barking continually as he tried to see how many rounds he could get into a Chitauri before they hit the ground. The game wasn’t the easiest and his opponents insisted on moving around, though having them stand still would be asking too much, he knew that. Still, a girl could dream right?
Jess appeared at his side, asking questions. Dum Dum gave her a sidelong look. ”It’s a hat,” He said dryly. ”It’s what it’s supposed to do.” Hearing the tell-tale click that said his clip was empty, Dum Dum sent the soul of his boot flying into the face of the nearest Chitauri. It didn’t do anything other than make the chitauri mad. Freeing a fresh clip from it’s place on his belt, Dum Dum drove it home before replacing his foot with a spray of bullets. That was better.
A light bulb went off in his head and grinning like a madman he gleefully pulled rank and took a rocket launcher off a nearby agent. It was nice having seniority. Tilting the large bit of machinery upwards he aimed for one of the flying space whales. Squinting he chewed on his lower lip and pulled the trigger. The damn thing had a lot more kick back than he had been expecting and it set him on his back with a loud “unf”. There was a loud cracking noise as his head slammed hard into the pavement temporarily sending stars flying around his eyes before everything went black.
Some legends are told Some turn to dust or to gold But you will remember me Remember me for centuries And just one mistake Is all it will take We'll go down in history Remember me for centuries He-e-e-ey ya, oh he-e-e-ey He-e-e-ey ya Remember me for centuries Mummified my teenage dreams No, it's nothing wrong with me The kids are all wrong The story's all off Heavy metal broke my heart Come on, come on and let me in The bruises on your thighs like my fingerprints and this is supposed to match
The fact that the SHIELD agent Dugan didn't know who Thanos was irritated him greatly. Val found that he could only shake his head, how could anyone not know who Thanos was? He was the Mad Titan after all. Perhaps Midgardians were just that simple. He sure hoped not, but that still remained to be seen. The ones he had dealt with previously were not entirely competent, but generally fairly bright. Val found it interesting, though, that a certain level of bitterness came from Yana. He understood the bitterness, and simply made a noise in agreement about the six decades. There was much to be said, though he figured that could be a conversation for another time. If there was another time.
A few of the elves surrounding them cheered in delight and excitement when Yana declared with much emphasis that it was going to end that day. That was something he could definitely get behind. Val couldn't help but nod as everyone cheered; he enjoyed the idea of getting their home back from the Mad Titan and knowing that he would never be able to rally that much support behind him again.
Chuckling, Valtyrr nodded. “Aye, you always made them the best darling. Though I doubt they would have been enjoyed to the same level you desire.” he replied, knowing that she was kidding, but enjoying the thought all the same. he missed the traditional foods like that from their homeland, but one day he knew that they would be able to enjoy them within the walls of the palace once more. They had learned to make some Midgardian similarities, however, nothing would ever suffice the real thing.
Teleporting with his lover, Valtyrr found himself enjoying the idea of getting to fight alongside her. Yana was brilliant and stubborn, but talented and just as determined as he was. These are skills that he really appreciated in her being. The wicked grin that he had given her and she returned to him, Val couldn't help but to lean in closer to her and accept the embrace. Once atop the beast, he heard Yana’s warning, “Aye, I shall take note of that. I suppose it's understandable, but none the less, I shall keep my eyes open.”
He had not seen her power in full force, and he found that he was quite intrigued. Seeing it like this definitely put into perspective how much changed in the past couple of months, though he thought no less of her now than he ever had, nor was he scared of her. He could never be scared of her. His heart was pounding in his chest with the thought that she could do so much damage. However, that could be used to their advantage. At least, now that he thought about it. Chaos and havoc could be part of a plan they could use. Maybe. He figured that the agents wouldn't like it so much if they were to create more of a disaster than had already been caused.
Still very tempting.
His attention was brought back to the task at hand when Yana exclaimed that she was almost through. Valtyrr pulled his eyes back to the fight before them, and ready to the staff and his fingers. He was ready, watching for the precise moment when she beckoned to him to fire. it was within moments that he was ready to aim the weapon into the skull of the Beast, and fired off several consecutive shots to make sure he didn't miss. “Come, I feel it starting to decend, we must move.”

"Life’s a trial by fire..."
The irritation in Alflyana’s voice was not meant to be directed at the Midgardian - Agent Dugan, was his name, she reminded herself - and she attempted to convey that in the slight smile of pity she offered to the SHIELD agent. Unlike Valtyrr, Alflyana did not feel irritated at the Midgardian’s lack of knowledge when it came to Thanos. If he didn’t know who the Mad Titan was, it meant his home had not suffered at the man’s hands. She almost felt jealous of his ignorance. Having spent the past sixty years under Thanos’ boot, however, she knew just how dangerous that ignorance could be. No, he was lucky to be finding out about Thanos here and now, while the Earth had allies a’plenty to help battle back the Mad Titan’s forces. Placing a gentle hand upon Valtyrr’s arm, she turned her smile to him in an effort to console the boiling emotions she could see putting a strain on his features.
“Hardly, my love,” she chuckled, turning her eyes towards Valtyrr. “No one trumps my mother where fallas dumplings are concerned, though many have tried.”
Nodding to show she’d heard Valtyrr’s confirmation of her warning, Alflyana got to work. She could feel her energy levels slowly dipping. This was all still fairly new to her, and while she’d been working to hone her more fine motor skills with the flame, she had not spent a terrible amount of time focusing on upping her stamina with the abilities. She could help relieve this beast of its life, at least, of that she was certain.
Valtyrr was right - the Leviathan was going down. Alflyana sighed as she shifted her weight to keep herself steady atop the creature. Already, her eyes were skimming the buildings around them in search of a good jumping off point like she and the others had done with the previous beast. She had Valtyrr with her this time, though, and as soon as he voiced his opinion, she nodded.
Grabbing hold of her lover’s hand, she prepared for the sensation of teleportation. It was quick and painless, and she recovered significantly quicker with her feet on solid ground. Her chest heaved as she sucked in a deep breath and turned towards the Svartalf under her command. “There is one last beast in the area. It looked to be no more than three blocks north of us,” she announced, turning to the pair who had accompanied her on her first trip up. “Bring Gwenyth and Nivelim with you to deal with it. They can control storms, can they not? And where there is thunder, there is sure to be lightning…” she purred, looking up as a rumble echoed across the city.
“I will stay here to help on the ground.” With a nod of understanding, the pair darted off to find the other members of their assigned team. It didn’t take long, and in no time, they were all on their way to find the creature their Princess had commanded them to seek and destroy. Turning to the rest of her men, Alflyana offered them only a cursory glance before looking out further to the SHIELD battalion. They seemed to be losing steam quickly. “Svartalf - on me!”
Alflyana waded back into the thick of things, mixing her swordsmanship with a small amount of her pyrokinesis as she moved towards the Midgardians. Upon arriving, she instantly noticed the lack of Agent Dugan among those standing. She found him easy enough, and was glad to see he was at least alive still. “Hold the line!”
Wave after wave of Chitauri assaulted the barricade. Soon enough, she found herself fighting with Valtyrr to one side and an Asgardian to her right. It was odd, but for the first time in her life, she harbored no ill will towards the Aesir. If, in the future, they met on another battlefield, on opposite sides, she’d have no qualms with eliminating him, but for now… For now, he was just another warrior, fighting against a common enemy.
A powerful crack echoed across the area, and Alflyana looked up from where her sword was hilt deep in a Chitlian’s neck to gaze upon the beauty of her soldiers’ attack. Lightning was shooting down from the heavens, and the sound of a Leviathan’s enraged death rattle could be heard just barely over the accompaniment of thunder. Good. They’d done it.
With the big threats out of the way, Alflyana refocused her attention on the smaller targets in front of her. Stepping forward, she held out her free hand and sent a blast similar to her first of the battle towards the group of aliens charging forward. The stink of burned flesh began to permeate the area as the rain was unable to compete with the heat charbroiling the Chitauri where they stood. It was disgusting, but effective. It was also incredibly draining, but as she felt her energy draining slowly, she fought past it, raising her sword defensively in preparation of the next wave.
...it hit him harder than any attack had in centuries. Thanos grit his teeth as pain shot through him; pain he had not felt in so long. It was terrible and it gripped his core and ripped a scream from his throat.
Panting in the aftermath of the attack, Thanos gripped his chair tightly. He was injured. Midgard was not the easy target he had thought. He needed to regroup...
Sending out a call for his troops to withdraw home, Thanos' own throne also began an ascent to the skies and beyond. He would return to crush these creatures into submission, but first he needed to figure out how such a useless creature had been able to fight off his hold and injure him.
((Chitauri forces are now retreating, though the dark elves are not going with them, and are instead converging on Concourse. Players still in Ragnarok threads may choose to finish off the Chitauri before they retreat, or simply let them go. Whatever the choice, players should at least have one more round to wrap things up and react to this turn of events. When you're done, notify a member of staff. Thank you.))

It didn't seem to take long for Dugan to do something stupid, and Jess nearly sighed as she called in a medic to take a look at him, though she managed to hold it back - just barely. "What an idiot," she muttered to herself, though it was with a small smile. As she supervised Dugan's removal to the medical set-up, she also managed to negotiate a drop of more ammo for their dwindling surprise. It was with great relief that Jess re-loaded her weapons and the empty clip-pouches in her uniform, ready to go back into the field. "Talk to me, boys. Where are we at?" she asked of the other agents as she readied herself for the fight yet again. [break][break] "Seem to got a lot more comin' down on us," one of the agents drawled, and Jess nodded as her gaze ventured to the direction he had waved her attention. They'd survived this long. It would be anti-climactic to give up now. Readying her weapons, she took off back into the fray. Shots were ringing out again around her as she moved through the field of battle, thankful that though her bio-electricity had long since been spent, her agility was something that didn't fade. [break][break] Jess focused on taking down the Chitauri rather than their stronger relatives, as she didn't want to waste bullets on attempting to drop the large ones at this point. Better to lighten the field and hope that she'd recharged a bit by the time that the Chitlians were the only things left. Firing one bullet after another as the other agents around her did the same and the Dark Elves did whatever it was they did to assist across the battlefield, Jess hoped that they were getting near the end. [break][break] Taking a blow from an alien while she was distracted by her own thoughts, Jess swore as she tumbled across the ground, flipping back to her feet and turning to fire multiple times into the creature's skull. How could she be so stupid? Twisting and wincing as she caught sight of the red and burned flesh where the hit from the spear had charred her, she barked out a few orders as she gathered some cloth to put over the wound in the hopes of keeping infection at bay. [break][break] As the last of the Leviathans fell, she breathed a sigh of relief, reloading her pistols so that she could continue taking down aliens even as her movement was slowed by the burn on her side. It seemed like as soon as she was jumping back in, a ripple went through the alien troops around them as a monstrous explosion and roar echoed from the direction of Central Park. The Chitauri and Chitlians seemed confused for long moments before those that could began... what seemed like a retreat?

"Life’s a trial by fire..."
Another loud crash echoed out over the city and Alflyana glanced up. This one hadn’t come from the same direction her soldiers had just destroyed the last Leviathan. Furrowing her brows, she turned to steal a glance in that direction - south. So, that’s where the Mad Titan was hiding, she assumed.
A snarl formed upon Alflyana’s lips as she reigned herself back in. No matter how tempting it was to turn tail and head off in search of the man who’d held her people captive for the past six decades, she was still needed here. Fighting her every instinct, she turned to the man at her side, letting the mere sight of him calm her slowly. This was where she needed to be: leading her people, with the love of her life at her side.
Minutes passed, and slowly, but surely the number of Chitauri in the area began to dwindle. Any who escaped the Princess and her entourage, however, were cut down by the squadrons of Dark Elves moving into the area. Word had spread throughout the city of her location, and now that the retreat of Thanos’ forces was in full effect, her troops were rallying to her side.
There were a few healers in the midst, and it was those men and women she sent to the SHIELD barricade, offering their assistance. Agent Dugan had been taken out by his own weapon, it seemed. That was… unfortunate… His comrades seemed hesitant, but grateful at the assistance Alflyana’s people provided them as the final Chitauri in the area were dealt with.
A part of her wanted to just leave now - load everyone up into the small (but spacious) vessel she’d been given and fly back up to the Reaver, where Amalroos and the rest of his men were. But there were still more troops trickling in from other areas of the sprawling metropolis. Soon enough, she began to wonder if they would all fit upon the one vessel. Standing up from where she’d been crouched beside one of her warriors, she finally made a decision.
“Rhikaros - take as many as you can who are not busy aiding the Midgardians or keeping watch and get them to the ship. I trust you can fly it?” The umbrakinetic nodded his head and she nodded to give him leave. He got to work, quickly gathering the troops milling about and clearing the area. Alflyana’s heart ached as she watched them go; she missed her brother, and wanted to make certain he was safe. There were reparations to be made here on Earth, though, and as the leader of her people, it would be best that she be seen working on them front and center.
Sighing, Alflyana pressed a quick kiss to Valtyrr’s cheek before making her way into the thick of the SHIELD medical unit where someone had roused Agent Dugan from his dirt nap. She nodded to the redheaded man, before turning to the medic. “I’m not a healer like some of my people, but I can cauterize wounds. Or I can simply clean and wrap them.” Another squadron arrived, and Alflyana glanced up. Valtyrr was handling things, pointing her out to them. She offered a slight inclination of the head, but returned her focus to the two men in front of her. “I’ll finish taking care of him. Let me know if I can be of any assistance afterwards,” she murmured, elegant fingers getting to work wrapping a bandage around the large human’s head.
Cleaning this city was going to take a lot of time and effort, but Alflyana had no intentions of being here when that happened. May as well help as much as she could while she was still here. In an effort to save as many of her people as she could, she’d give them a few hours to reach her before she finally boarded the vessel for its last run up to the Reaver. Hopefully they all made it. If not, she had no doubts she’d be back soon enough to save them…
