Pete was starting to like the idea of fighting next to another hero. Sure it was crazy the army that they were up against but it was good to know he had a big orange brick wall to put at his back. He'd hate to be the Chitauri coming his way though. While the Spider had enhanced strength but he had no where near that kind of strength. He would have a hell of a time if he came across someone like that who wasn't so friendly.
He took out another incoming Chitauri. A quick right hook took care of that. He used to momentum to spring into another oncoming warrior, kicking him square in the chest and throwing him back into the ranks. Peter froze at the familiar name. Why the hell would he call himself Uncle Ben? It brought a slight choke to the back of his throat as a few memories got dragged out. But there was no time for his luggage. This was war. He had to stay some what focused.
"Well with any luck maybe I'll manage to take a few of these guys out with me." The sarcasm was a little light on this one as he was focusing on the incoming squadron. Normal people throw themselves into their work and they clock some overtime. If Pete did it he ended up fighting an army of aliens. He missed the days when his biggest problem was what starter Pokemon he was going to choose. He downed another pair of incoming fighters before he noticed a shift in the oncoming ranks. The Dark Elves little 'For the Horde!' cry seemed to have sparked a change in their loyalty and they turned on their alien comrades.
I'm totally taking credit for that one
Ben started asking about what other tricks Pete had up his sleeves. Good thinking, going outside the box to use their abilities together but his ideas seemed a little...bruising. At least as far as the Spider was concerned. He didn't like the idea of being bowled into the enemy one bit. Though maybe the big guy was on to something.
"Mainly just my web-shooters. But I've got limited fluid though so I can't do it all day." A charging Chitlian came rushing past the ranks of his much less beefy counter parts. Pete whistled in awe at the Chitauri on steroids, looked like he had been indoctrinated into the Borg. "I'm thinking about getting you a larger counter weight for your mace idea." Pete took off into a run, headed right for the oncoming monster. Every fiber of his being was screaming for him to get out of the way but he tucked his head and pushed forward.
As he came up to the creature it swung out with a massive sword. Pete dropped backwards as it whizzed over him, sliding across the concrete and straight between the creatures legs. As he passed under him two webs were shot at either ankle and Pete grabbed hold pulling the creature off balance with a heavy pull. Making sure not to sever the webbing Pete jumped back towards his ally, landing nimbly on Ben's shoulder with the other ends of the webbing in tow.
"Brought you a gift Pebbles. Just try not to hurt me in the process." Severing the web Pete moved further onto the brutes back, utilizing his extra clingy grip to hold on for dear life.
The first Leviathan was down, and a second one was being attacked by a contingent of Asgardians, at least Jay assumed they were Asgardian. Yeah, the armor and the fact that their skin wasn’t blue pretty much sealed it. Several SHIELD agents were also firing on the monster, and it looked like that fight was going splendidly for the world. It was pretty much taken care of.
Well, that was good news at least. Though really he needed to go find Ali in all this mess. Not that she’d actually need him for anything fight wise, considering, but he could at least offer her moral support. The woman in crimson red seemed to frown at his response to her, but it was true. With his wing as compromised as it was and as slowly as it was healing, he was effectively not going to be of much use.
To her or to Ali, he realized. The Chitauri coming for them stopped in their tracks, and the red woman fired off energy blasts of a brighter red until it was dropped. “Ah don’ think there’s much that they can do fer me.” Jay said, with a shrug. They could try and keep him in a tent, but that was about it. They should spend their abilities helping other people who actually needed it.
“Everythin’ o’ mine heals on its own. Even resets tha bones. Couldn’t tell ya how or why, though.” Jay answered, since he assumed she was also a mutant, or at the very least, mutant friendly. There’d been some chatter about magic and sorcerers from Atlantis in San Francisco and the like.
“‘Sides, Ah kin probably glide. Somehow.” Jay answered. Then she ran to the side of the balcony, looking over the battlefield. It sounded like the tide had changed even more, and looking around on his own, farther from the Balcony, Jay noticed the darker blue hued people turning against the Chitauri. Well, that was a good change of alliance, and he’d heard something about a Princess being free and returning? Well, that was good.
As Wanda was offering her hand out to guide him down off the roof, Jay noticed another hovering chariot behind them. “Yer gonna hafta trust me on this one.” Jay said, right before he pushed her off the roof, out of the line of sight of one of the energy weapons, which struck him directly in the back. The pain was intense, unlike any he’d ever felt before, and once again he could feel darkness reaching up to the edges of his mind, falling slightly forward, slumping on the rooftop and it’s balcony.
Dying was always so inconvenient to people like him and wolverine. He could only hope that Wanda noticed he was only mostly dead. He didn’t exactly relish the thought of waking up in a body bag. That was his last thought before his world went dark.
@bengrimm Annd Jay is effectively out for the fighting sequence! He'll get better.
Ben was just happy smashing the Chitauri - wait, did he just think 'smashing' to himself? Aw, geez, he was getting to be a big orange Hulk, wasn't he? Still, he was fine the way he was - he decided to throw Webs a bone because the kid seemed to be doing his damnedest to help out. Besides that, the guy actually seemed pretty handy in the fight. He was spry, but the hits he was landing? Guy was strong - maybe not as strong as Ben, but stronger than the whole bean-pole build made him out to be. This probably wouldn't be so bad after all.
He turned his back on Spider-Guy for a second to let him do his own thing. A couple of Chitlians seemed to think that maybe they could team up to take Ben down, and were rushing him in unison. Honestly, these guys just needed to give up at this point. Ben reached out to grab them both by the neck, bringing them up and smashing - there was that word again, crap - them together until they stopped trying to pry his fists open. He tossed one on the ground, but grabbed the others ankles and spun him around a bit to get some momentum going before launching him into another group by the rubble that had been the Archway.
It was about that time that he felt something light land on his shoulder, and Spider-Dude's voice piped in again about a gift. Yeah, this guy was definitely some long-lost member of the "Storm" clan that had come to haunt him or something. It'd just figure that he'd have superpowers, too - Ben only met people who had super powers nowadays. When Ben got ahold of the webs, though, he was a bit.. Weirded out, but when he saw what the web was attached to, he was downright excited. "Aww, an' it ain't even my birthday yet! Yer a good pal, Webs."
The kid disappeared onto Ben's back, but that wasn't the Thing's problem at the moment. Webs had just given him a new toy to play with, and what kind of guy would Ben be if he didn't share? He grabbed the webs in both hands, swinging the Chitlian around a bit just to get a feel for the reach of it. He managed to hit a few Chitauri just by testing the waters, before going in with his full effort. The webbing was tough, that was for sure - most of the aliens Ben hit were just getting clotheslined by the web shot, instead of being hit by the actual Chitlian. Still, Ben could get used to this.
Of course, he decided his plans should change when another Leviathan reared its ugly head. The Jets might be able to take it, but it would put them at risk - more than Ben was comfortable with. Just like before, Ben spun up his Chitlian weapon - only this time with the length of webbing attached - and launched it into a group of Chitauri further off. He turned his head as much as he could to look at the Spider on his back. "Hey, kid - think you could web up somethin' big enough to take the space whale down?"
Wanda nodded a bit at his response - it seemed that his mutation carried with it some form of healing factor. It would be good if he could heal on his own, with the medical teams surely swamped in the wake of an attack such as this. At the same time, she would feel better after getting him to the ground; someplace quiet would be better for his healing to do its work and that would be better for everyone.
She only had a chance to frown before the young mutant was pushing her from the roof and she tumbled down in shock for a few moments before righting herself and using her powers to jump back to the roof. There was a couple of beasts still firing on the mutant's prone form, and she rallied her magic to take them out with extreme prejudice, leaving their carcasses broken and smoking in the wake of the attack.
Alighting on the roof again, she quickly ran to the young man's side, crouching next to him to check on him. He was out cold, but seemed to still have shallow life signs. Wanda would have to get him down from here and out of the line of fire so that he could heal. She lifted him with her powers and quickly took them both to the ground, where she continued levitating him along with her as she made her way towards the SHIELD woman that she had spoken with earlier. "Medical?" she asked, motioning to the form in the air beside her, and after ascertaining directions she continued on her way.
The attention of the medical staff was caught immediately, and they helped her lay the young man on a cot carefully. "He has a healing factor; he will heal on his own. He simply needs a safe place to do so," she informed them and they nodded, setting up monitoring equipment just in case, though they did not make healing him a priority. Wanda leaned down to brush his hair from his face, placing a soft kiss on his forehead before turning to exit the tent with fire in her eyes. She would finish this battle.
Exiting the healing area right back onto the field of battle, Wanda stalked toward where a Leviathan was charging down Mr. Grimm and Spider-Man, energy gathering around her in an angry red haze. Lifting from the ground with the force of the energy in the air, eyes glowing with the magic at her fingertips, she threw it with all her might at the beast, air crackling around her as the energy arced into it, cracking the creature's armor and arcing into its brain until the creature started dropping from the sky.
Spent, Wanda's eyes closed as she crumpled to the ground in a dead faint.
[[She'll wake up when someone shakes her, but she's out of magic :3]]

By the time the Scarlet Witch landed on the ground with a winged mutant, Melinda was still coping with her sudden near-death experience and the fact that she’d been saved by a member of a force who’d up until five minutes ago, been an enemy. The Dark Elves’ faces were nothing like those of humans, Asgardians, or Atlanteans, but she trusted herself to recognize him should she see her savior again. Pale grey flesh, a fairly serious laceration beneath his left eye that would surely scar, irises as white as pearl, ringed in obsidian. His ability to teleport wasn’t nearly so recognizable, of course, but she kept that tidbit filed away in her mind, too.
The sound of a thickly accented voice finally jarred Melinda from her thoughts and she turned to see the woman whom she’d spoken with earlier in the battle. Melinda’s mouth opened as she prepared to answer the one word question, but before she could even begin, some members of the SHIELD crew were rushing over. Bloodstained wings were apparently easy to discern from across the small space.
No longer of any use to the woman or her injured comrade, Melinda turned back to the task at hand: eliminating as many Chitauri as possible. With no jet available to her, it was all she could do, really. And so, as with everything in her life, Melinda waded in, prepared to give the fight one hundred percent.
Three downed Chitauri later, Melinda felt more than heard, a sound like electricity crackling in the air. Shoving the tip of a stolen glaive into the chest carapace of the fourth (and final) Chitauri in her vicinity, she turned to see what was going on. A huge ball of crackling red energy was arcing through the air towards one of the Leviathan. She recognized the source as the young woman with the accent (where did she know that accent from?) and watched as she crumpled as soon as the energy was on its way.
“Shit…” Melinda sighed, noting the effectiveness of the blast.
While SHIELD agents rushed to move civilians from the way of the crashing monstrosity, Melinda began to make her way towards the girl. Nearby Chitauri had also noticed the lethality of the woman’s blast and seemed to view her unconscious form as easy pickings. From the looks of it, Melinda wasn’t going to make it in time. The aliens were faster than she was. They’d be on her in no time. A strong grasp around her hand caught Melinda’s attention, but before she could react, the world went dark.
...again.
She wasted no time leaping into action as soon as the world returned to her, spinning away from the Dark Elf and jabbing the bladed end of her spear into one of the rushing Chitauri. He mirrored her move and as the second Chitauri lunged in, it found itself instantly impaled upon the full blade of his sword.
“We really need to stop meeting like this,” she drawled, whirling to her right to block an attack. “I know I don’t have much room to ask, but could you doo me one more favor and get her to the medical area?”
“I’ll not leave you behind, milady.”
Melinda turned as the Chitauri in front of her dropped, one eyebrow arching in amusement. “Please… This lot only wishes it could take me down…” A slow grin formed on her lips, her eyes shining with an inner fire she rarely showed on the surface.
“I will return.”
He was gone before Melinda could turn back, taking the unconscious mutant with him. Good. At least the girl would be safe. Focusing on the aliens moving in around her, Melinda turned in a tight circle, waiting to see which of the five would jump first. She heard the one at her seven o’clock shift first, and spun out of the way just in time to dodge the blade of his spear. It was a vicious dance, and Melinda suffered three cuts - left arm, right thigh, right hip - before she managed to whittle the group down to two enemies. In a moment of desperation, she took the certain kill shot and lunged for the Chitauri on her right, opening up his comrade for an easy shot to her chest. As the one crumpled, Melinda paused.
She wasn’t dead.
Why wasn’t she dead?
Slowly, she turned to face the alien who should have killed her, only to find him hanging limp in the air, a blade sticking out the front of his chest. “I told you I would return.”
Were they starting to pull ahead? It couldn't be. The seemingly endless hordes were starting to seem out gunned. A smile formed under Peter's scarlet mask as he spun around clung to the wide back of the much larger 'Ben' as it were. He really had to make sure to properly meet the guy once they weren't busy trying not to die. He needed a strong guy on his side more often. Sure his little cocktail of powers had their value but he was nowhere near that strong. Plus he was fairly certain it would take close to a nuclear explosion to come close to this guys soft center. If he had a soft center. Meta-humans sure were interesting. As the spinning slowly stopped Pete hopped off his new allies back, landing nimbly though he could still feel his head spinning.
"It's what I do Rocky. Just promise not to squash me and we'll go far." The hordes seemed to be a bit apprehensive. The duo made a good team, with some really cool combo moves. Though they had bigger fish to fry. Worms? Another Leviathan was making their way on to the scene. These things were popping up faster than Cosby victims and it was not a fun time to be a tiny little spider. There wasn't much he could do about them on his own but he still felt the obligation to do his part. It was then that Ben chimed in with another request.
"Benny boy you're a genius. I could kiss you on your big bouldery lips." He looked around for something to tie up, but there wasn't much that was in large enough chunks. Except...the arch! Of course. "Right, over here!" Thankfully they weren't too far out from his grand entrance scene. The scattered remains of the monument would make nice ammunition. Provided Ben could aim them well enough. Pete jumped through the fighting, springing easily over clashing elves and aliens.
This really should be a dream come true...
He landed on one of the larger chunks of concrete. At least 15 feet in diameter roughly. Calculations ran through his head, the trejectory of the projectiles. How much web they would need. It was possible. But they needed at least two. He went to work. Like a busy spider he crawled across the surface of the boulder, lifting where he could to assure there was enough webbing around them so they wouldn't break free. He had caused enough damage as is. Once the first was secure he made his way for the second. Watching the busy warriors hashing it out while he churned away in the back ground. The second largest one was woven together in a matter of moments. Satisfied with his handy work he began running the line out for Ben's hold. He was pleasantly clucking to himself when his Spidey sense went off. He dropped what he was doing and sprung up, dodging a energy bolt passing below him. But he hadn't seen the second one coming just above it.
He let out a gasp as the bolt grazed his right arm, searing off the suit and scorching the skin under it. The Spider didn't land gracefully. The concrete met him hard as he came crashing down. Trying to fight past the pain he moved to get back up, looking to see the Chitauri pair running happily towards him with weapons drawn. Not wanting to push his new injury Pete opted for the easy way out, with a press of his middle and forefinger to his palm he went to shoot a web towards them though was met with only a digital beep. No more fluid.
...it hit him harder than any attack had in centuries. Thanos grit his teeth as pain shot through him; pain he had not felt in so long. It was terrible and it gripped his core and ripped a scream from his throat.
Panting in the aftermath of the attack, Thanos gripped his chair tightly. He was injured. Midgard was not the easy target he had thought. He needed to regroup...
Sending out a call for his troops to withdraw home, Thanos' own throne also began an ascent to the skies and beyond. He would return to crush these creatures into submission, but first he needed to figure out how such a useless creature had been able to fight off his hold and injure him.
((Chitauri forces are now retreating, though the dark elves are not going with them, and are instead converging on Concourse. Players still in Ragnarok threads may choose to finish off the Chitauri before they retreat, or simply let them go. Whatever the choice, players should at least have one more round to wrap things up and react to this turn of events. When you're done, notify a member of staff. Thank you.))
"Eh, sorry Webs, yer a good pal an' all but ya' ain't that kinda pal." Ben could just barely feel the Spider pushing off his back, which probably meant the kid had a plan. Alright, Web-head was getting to work, so it was up to Ben to keep the rest of the aliens busy. Shouldn't be too hard, since he'd garnered a good bit of attention from the army so far. So for a few minutes he just kept fighting, swinging his fists into Chitauri and sending aliens into other aliens. The elves were helping out, and everything seemed good.
Then it occurred to him that it had been a bit too long since he'd heard a wise-crack out of the red and blue whiz-kid. If Ben knew anything from fighting alongside Johnny, it was that when the jokes stopped coming for that long, there was a problem. Ignoring whatever blasts and weak Chitauri attacks hit him, Ben turned around to see the two pieces of the Arch webbed up, and a line running towards him. Okay - so where was the kid? Well, it was a good thing that the Spider dressed like he did, or else Ben might not have seen him on the ground with two of the aliens rushing towards him.
Kid did something with his hand, but nothing was happening - he was defenseless. Ben could only think of Jubilee, before he saw red. He dug his feet into the concrete as he charged through the crowd of Chitauri towards the two that were rushing at Webs, diving to grab one by the ankle when he was close enough. He pulled the chitauri down with him, before tossing it off to the side into another group of them. Scrambling forward, Ben got to his feet just in time to grab the one Chitauri left by the back of the neck, lifting it off the ground.
He turned the alien around in his grip, bringing its face close to his own and lifting a fist behind him. "You listen here, an' you listen good - that there," Ben said, pointing at Pete a bit aggressively, "Is my little buddy. An' my little buddy is off limits."
He lifted the fist again, this time throwing a punch into the Chitauri, letting go of it so the punch would send it into the concrete and bouncing off into the crowd. Ben moved over to offer Spidey a quick hand off the ground, before going to grab the string of web that he'd dropped when whatever happened happened. Ben could see the aliens retreating now - something must've happened somewhere for them to decide that the fight was over, but Ben wasn't done just yet. He pulled the webbing up over his head, swinging it around until the pieces of Arch got a good amount of momentum going to stay steady in the air.
The rock man narrowed his eyes, eyeballing his target in the sky - even if he didn't bring it down, he wanted to give it a good whack on the head. Once he figured he had his aim right, Ben swung the boulders a bit faster to pick up speed, going until they were just a blur of white stone before swinging the pair of chunks in an arch and sending them straight for the Leviathan. The stone crashed into the side of the monster's head, and Ben couldn't help but grin as he saw it going down. He started laughing, and turned to the Spider, going to give him a solid - and possibly painful - pat on the back for a job well done. "Yer alright, Webs. Hey, tell ya' what - you stop by the Baxter Buildin' any time ya' wanna hang out. I'll make sure the security system won't turn ya' into Swiss cheese on the way in."
Ben didn't know the kid too well, but already, he felt like this was the start of a long, beautiful friendship.

Getting back to the barricade on foot was considerably easier than Melinda had anticipated, even with the highly trained swordsman at her side. He offered the sword to her, opting to use a pair of long knives in its stead himself, and together they began to cut a path through the Chitauri between them and relative safety. The further they moved, the less resistance they seemed to come across. Melinda’s brow furrowed and she took a moment to look around after dispatching a Chitlian with a vicious upthrust.
“They are retreating.”
The Dark Elf took the words from Melinda’s lips - not that she’d intended to speak them aloud anyways - and she nodded in recognition. All around them, she could see the different forces regrouping. Atlanteans were pressing the attack to the south, Asgardians to the east. SHIELD’s barricade had the west well-fortified, and the squadron of Dark Elves seemed to be heading north.
By the time they reached the cordon, the last Leviathan had been well and truly maimed by Ben Grimm and the area was filled with more allies than enemies. Looking around at the wounded being cared for by SHIELD medical agents, Melinda finally let out a sigh of relief. Two battles in two days… She really wasn’t built for these kinds of things anymore.
Turning to the Dark Elf beside her, Melinda offered the sword back to him, pommel first. He reached forward with a free hand and pressed the blade back towards her gently, shaking his head. “Keep it with you for now. Thanos’ forces are on the run, but one can never be sure if and when they will turn back. For now, I need to go with my people to find the Princess. I will return for the sword later. I trust you’ll keep it safe for me.” A deep frown crossed Melinda’s face, but it slowly disappeared, only to be replaced by a look of mild exasperation.
“Agent May!”
Melinda’s head swiveled at the sound of her name. She nodded to the young man attempting to keep everything organized as the last remaining Chitauri were put down from a distance before turning back to the Dark Elf. A low grumble of disapproval rumbled up from the back of her throat as she noticed she was now standing alone at the top of the barricade. “Son of a bitch…” she murmured, glancing down at the sword in her hands.
With another sigh, she took one last look out at the carnage in the streets before hopping down to the ground level. “Alright people! You four - check the perimeter for any civilian stragglers and get them back here. If you find any wounded Chitauri on your way, eliminate them. Hodges, I want all of our wounded moved as carefully as possible to the north side of the barricade, where they’ll meet the Quinjet Newman is calling in right now.” Without a word, everyone Melinda spoke to jumped into action.
The quartet of soldiers restocked their weapons and took off at a brisk pace to check the surrounding area. Hodges shuffled off and began to help usher the casualties towards the area Melinda had directed, starting with those who could walk on their own. Behind her, Melinda could hear Newman on the communication system, calling out to HQ for evac. Once it seemed everyone was busy, Melinda made her way off to one side of the cordon and eased into a sitting position. The concrete was rough against her back, but it beat standing, at least until their ride arrived.
