Black Widow Anna Marie a.k.a. Rogue Maureen Evans a.k.a. Morrigan Alflyana Alflysdottir Darcy Lewis [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: Tai Chi / Meditation-- Melinda uses this as a way to keep herself centered. She does not often show much emotion despite being such a passionate woman. Her years of self-disciplined practice of this art has helped her to better channel her emotions so that she can remain level-headed, even in the most dire of circumstances. Flying -- Nothing beats the rush of adrenaline when first taking off and then when landing a plane. Being at the helm, in control of the vehicle soaring thousands of miles above the Earth’s surface just makes the experience that much more exhilarating. Also, the solitude is nice. Pranks -- While Melinda is not nearly so light-hearted and cheerful as she once was, she still takes great joy in seeing others suffer (harmlessly). Playing pranks may, in fact, be even more fun now that she’s got a seeming “all work, no play” attitude because no one ever points the finger at her. Las Vegas -- [Redacted] What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas… Thor -- What? He’s dreamy. Get over it, Phil. DISLIKES: Talking -- Inane babble has always been somewhat irritating to the SHIELD Agent, but in the heat of the moment, it’s even more aggravating. Do people know just how much more they could get done in a time period if they shut their traps for five seconds and actually focused? Traitors -- Liars, turn cloaks, backstabbers, cheats… They’re all one in the same to Melinda. As someone who does not trust easily, she has a tendency to hold a grudge (or break a larynx) when someone she does open up to turns on her. Coffee -- The taste is bitter and the effects are mind-altering. If she needs a pick-me-up, she prefers physical activity: boxing, running, or even tai chi. High Heels -- While Melinda is more than capable of walking, dancing, and even running in heels, she prefers to keep as well-balanced as possible. Those toothpicks that serve as the main support of high heels are ridiculous. The only decent aspects of heels are the fact that they make excellent weapons, and the fact that they make her butt look good. “The Cavalry” -- The nickname she earned after the incident in Bahrain is not one she’s proud of. With each new class at the Academy, the story of what really went down in that warehouse has grown exponentially, but she knows the truth. It was a horrible situation and while she knows the nickname is meant to be a compliment from her peers, she despises the fact that each time it’s uttered in her presence, she’s forced to remember everything that went down. STRENGTHS: Combat -- Melinda is highly trained in all kinds of combat techniques and has more black belts than even the infamous Black Widow (though you’ll never hear her brag about it to anyone - except perhaps, Agent Romanoff herself). Although she often chooses to fight without weapons (or with handguns when necessary), she is trained in the use of a wide variety of arms - guns, swords, staves, nail guns… You name it, she can probably kick your ass with it. Observant -- Melinda has a keen eye for detail, and the ability to calmly dissect a situation while others run in blindly, possibly to their demise. Multilingual -- May is fluent in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Honest -- Melinda is incredibly honest with people, especially those inside her circle of trust, and is unafraid to voice her opinion when she deems necessary. If she doesn’t deem it necessary, she won’t hesitate to give a knowing glance in place of words... WEAKNESSES: Blunt -- Unfortunately, Melinda’s honesty is sometimes too on the mark. While she doesn’t do petty (i.e. “I told you so”), her words can sometimes be more brutal than her right hook - which, believe me, is vicious. Most people don’t seem to like being told they’re wrong, and thus, the issue is borne. Independent -- Melinda is one of those agents who is adept at working with a team, but she often prefers to work alone. For starters, it’s considerably quieter without the inane chatter of teammates. In addition, while running a solo op, she has no teammates to worry about getting into the line of fire. If she can contrive a way to go in alone, she will always attempt to sway her superior officers into seeing that it’s the best course of action - or she’ll just do it without their consent... Cooking -- Take out an enemy insurgent force with little-to-no casualties? Sure. Pilot a Quinjet over enemy territory without making a blip on the radar? Easy. Make an edible dinner for two? Nope! Melinda is a horrible cook, and has no problems admitting such before others make the foolish mistake of putting her on kitchen duty. Children -- Melinda may come across as a very hard and cold person, but she is really quite maternal. Operations that involve saving children tug at her heartstrings, even more so after the events that unfolded in Bahrain. Children are the true innocents, the future of the world, and as such, they are the ones most in need of the protection she strives to provide as a member of SHIELD. GOALS: Settle Down -- There was a point in her life when Melinda was ready to take the plunge. She was married, financially stable, and happy - all that was missing was a little one (or two) running underfoot. She’d like to try to reach that place again to give it a shot, but she’s going to be cutting it close on her internal time clock. Phil -- Phil Coulson has been a colleague of Melinda’s for a long time. Over the years of working together, they formed a solid friendship. It is that friendship that has pushed her to do everything in her power to help keep him safe now that he’s done trying to play in the big leagues and getting himself killed. FEARS: Loss of Control -- Melinda has worked a very long time to garner as much control over the things in her life as she has. Not having some semblance of control over her own body, or the goings on around her, is a frightening notion. Even when she held the Asgardian Berserker staff, she managed to keep control of herself, but she came close - too close - to reaching the edge of her abilities in those moments. Innocent Blood -- Despite her nominally high kill count during her tenure with SHIELD, Melinda has not had to spill much innocent blood. The lives of the innocent are the reason she fights as hard as she does for the agency. The one time she was forced to take out those whom she considered innocent took a lot out of her - so much so that she gave up the title of Field Agent for awhile. Now that she’s back in the game, she can’t help but wonder how hard she’ll take it next time she’s forced to go against everything she fights for and spill the blood of an innocent. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Melinda May has always been a strong, fearless woman. She was blessed with a fierce sense of determination, and has a tendency to give everything she has to any task she sets her mind to. Though she’s never been a particularly loud or outspoken woman, smiles were a common occurrence on her face growing up, and into adulthood. Even her classmates at the Academy of Operations would agree she was a well-adjusted young woman, though some might do so grudgingly if they were subject to one of her pranks. After the incident, the woman Melinda was disappeared, leaving the quiet, but still strong woman she is today. Despite everything she has seen and done, her ideals have never wavered, and it is this strong moral compass that kept her behind a desk at SHIELD rather than anywhere else in the world working for some civilian company. She firmly believes in the mission of SHIELD: Protection, whether one man from himself or the planet from an alien invasion. It was not expected of her to follow her mother’s footsteps into the service, but there was never any doubt in little Melinda’s mind that she would one day be proud to call herself a SHIELD Agent. Her early childhood years were filled with the same things normal children dealt with: birthday parties, monsters hidden in the closet, and scraped knees. As she grew older, the birthday parties got smaller. She was becoming more withdrawn and focusing more intensely on her studies than on the intricacies of maintaining friendships with children who didn’t share the same interests as herself. Soon enough, only family and her two closest friends - the offspring of other SHIELD personnel - attended such gatherings. Melinda didn’t mind, and in fact, she preferred it that way. The monsters in Melinda’s closet disappeared not long after her ninth birthday as she realized they were merely a figment of her imagination. There was no reason to fear the shadows when the true monsters walked around in broad daylight, wearing the skins of human beings. It was to one of these human-shaped monsters that she lost her best friend. A gunman made his way through her school, taking six lives (including his own and that of her best friend) and injuring dozens. Looking back now, she knows there was nothing she could have done as a measly third grade with a Blue Belt in Tae Kwon Do.. Fueled by that incident, she pushed herself harder and faster. Soon enough, her knees stopped getting scraped as she learned to control her balance. By the time she graduated high school, she had obtained two black belts. It wouldn’t take her much longer to master more martial arts styles than even the infamous Black Widow. In addition to the martial arts training, she took to learning how to use weapons. Staves, swords, knives… Anything she could get her hands on, she begged her trainers to help her master. Once she was old enough, she began training with ranged weapons, starting with sidearms and working her way up the chain. SHIELD accepted her into their Academy of Operations with open arms. The daughter of a renowned SHIELD Agent with the drive to accomplish all that she had already in her young life was certainly a valid candidate for the school. She thrived on the challenge the curriculum posed, even as she watched her classmates wash out one by one. This was what she was meant for, surely. When it came time for graduation, she was among the top of her class, though no one seemed surprised by it. In no time, she was being sent out on missions - sometimes with a team, other times without. Either way, it made no difference to her, so long as she was keeping to the oath she swore when she received her badge: “To serve when everything else fails; to be humanity’s last line of defense; to be the shield.” Over the next twenty some-odd years, she would excel in her field, both as an Agent and as an ace pilot. From Quinjets to large capacity transport airliners, she had no qualms being at the helm. It was also during this time that she would meet two of the most important men of her life… Melinda met Agent Phil Coulson when the two were paired up on a mission to Sausalito. It was a retrieval operation with no exit strategy, but somehow the pair prevailed (despite the fact that May ended up in the bay for five hours before Coulson came to fetch her). They quickly became SHIELD’s newest “dream team”, working together for nearly twenty years. He had an excellent mind for planning, and she had an incredible ability to see those plans through to fruition. During her tenure with the agency, Melinda also met a man by the name of Andrew Garner. He was a Neurologist and a Forensic Psychologist, and the two of them eloped. Theirs was a happy marriage, though to this day she still abhors Las Vegas. A few years after their shotgun wedding, they decided it was time to take things to the next level, and so they promised to begin working on starting a family of their own after Melinda and Coulson returned from a mission to Bahrain… It was a simple operation, just a “Welcome Wagon” for a potential candidate to add to their ever-increasing Index of super-powered individuals. But things had a way of turning topsy-turvy when you least expected. In the blink of an eye, the woman they’d been sent to evaluate had an entire SHIELD unit (plus local mercenaries) holed up in a warehouse, leaving only Phil and Melinda on the outside. Back-up was not coming, so Melinda grabbed a knife and took matters into her own hands. The Bahraini gangsters fell to her superior martial skills, but soon enough she was face-to-face with the super-powered individual herself: Belyakov. Much to her surprise (and her dismay), the woman was not the source of the power - her daughter, Katya, was. In a display of her power, the little girl killed the remaining gangsters under her control and ultimately forced Melinda’s hand. When she emerged battered and broken, but without a single SHIELD casualty, it was clear she was not okay, not mentally. None of the agents who’d been inside remembered any of the events that had transpired within, and so Melinda was hailed as a hero and given the nickname “The Cavalry”. Rather than soak it up, she stepped out of the field and took a desk job in SHIELD Administration. Her partnership with Coulson was ended, and soon enough so was her marriage to Andrew… After the events leading up to Coulson’s death, Melinda was more than happy to maintain her life of mediocrity. Although she wasn’t physically fighting the fight anymore, she was still helping SHIELD in her own way, which was more than some could claim. Director Nicholas Fury approached Melinda shortly after Agent Coulson’s death at the hands of the Asgardian Loki. Coulson was alive, he told her, and would be getting back into the game shortly. He would need a team, and Fury thought that with such a rich history between them, Melinda would be the perfect candidate for such. It didn’t take Melinda long to give Fury her suggestions for a team to help the newly resurrected Coulson. Agent Grant Ward, a top-notch Specialist, would assist Melinda if Phil ever got out of hand with the GH.325 in his blood to bring him down. Agents Leopold Fitz and Jemma Simmons could help the healing process on the physical side of things - Fitz, the engineer, could help to reprogram Coulson’s brain, while Jemma, the biologist, could help to repair the damage done to Coulson’s body. Melinda was unsurprised when she was approached by her old partner. She declined his offer at first, but after assuring her she would only be on board as the pilot of his new “Bus”, she acquiesced. Little did Coulson know, of course, that she and Fury had anticipated this move on Coulson’s part and that she had already agreed to keep tabs on the Agent for Director Fury, to be his eyes and ears while on mission. For awhile, she even managed to stay out of combat as Coulson promised. It wasn’t long, though, before she was forced to intercede. Once the seal had been broken, there was no going back, and she requested Coulson take her off of the sidelines for future missions. Slowly, but surely, things were beginning to feel a bit more like the good ol’ days... [/PTab][PTab=IMAGE][/PTab][/PTabbedContent={width:485px;border:0px;margin-left:-2px;}] |
