Has a highly analytical mind and has shown an ability to improvise quickly under great pressure. Has well developed skills in espionage and intelligence gathering. Hill has proven she can handle mass battle requirements during the Battle of New York. She had proven that she is a well groomed and brilliant tactician. Background and Personal Assessment: (Assessment made by Dr. Ezra Peters MD PHD) Agent Hill was born on April 3rd 1982 to Dr. Reginald Hill and his wife Samantha in Northwest Memorial Hospital where her father worked in Neurology, a department that he became the head of in 2000. During the birth her mother ran into some complications and bled out on the table. According to sources close to the Hill family, Reginald took the loss very badly. Upon investigation it shows that he seems to have blamed his infant daughter for the death of his wife. This could explain Maria’s usually colder demeanor towards people and her trust issues. When spoken to about the man she was very evasive. She did not want to even talk for a moment about her connection and relationship with her father. The more I look into it the more it seems to be nonexistent and any mention of him she is forced to make causes obvious distress and feelings of anger. Though when forced to speak of her childhood Maria was very forthcoming about a woman named Jenna who turned out to be her nanny. In talking about Jenna she revealed that her father was away from the home most of the time working. He tended to be gone from the moment she got up to the moment she went to bed. Jenna appears to have been the true parental figure in Maria’s life. She is a source for any happy memory that Maria found worthy to mention. She seems to have taught her how to be up until the point she was abruptly fired from the household. Getting Maria to speak of the event did prove to be quite difficult but after some prodding she did divulge that Jenna had only asked that Reginald spend time with his daughter. It would appear that she got herself involved in the personal relationship between Dr. Hill and his daughter and was fired for it. Maria was 13 at the time. After this point Maria seems to glaze over her experiences. She talked about the maid that was brought in to take Jenna’s place and cook and clean, but she did not seem to get another nanny. Based on her records she did well in school. This could have been an attempt as seeking her father’s approval and was definitely the source of her demeanor. Maria tends to strive for excellence and follow the rules to a tea not wanting to cross the invisible lines in life. She does push boundaries but never crosses over into the black. It is my professional opinion that this is the point in her life where this behavior began. It may have been that her father showed some interested in her good behavior and achievements. Maria’s father seems to be a defining factor in her young life. His actions dictated a lot of her choices it would seem. This is not surprising. Her choice to join the military seemed to have changed her however. Upon turning 18 Maria joined the Army. Unlike her earlier decisions fueled by wanting her father’s approval this one seems to have been motivated by a need to defy him. He had apparently wanted her to go to a top tear college, for which she had the grades. She chose to take the military route, which likely upset him. I have yet to determine his reaction when she told him and if she told him at all. It is probably likely that she did in order to get a reaction out of him. He had ignored her for so long it was an attempt to do the opposite and get a real emotional response. Maria is a very logical thinker and therefore this choice makes sense. After her basic training, Maria went on to be stationed in Afghanistan. Her record is attached to this file. To surmise, she, being a woman, was not part of any black ops or elite team. She did however, gain the attention of SHIELD within her first 2 tours. Her work was very precise and by the book but she showed and ability to think out of the box that was found interesting by her superiors as well as SHIELD. About midway through her 3rd tour she was recruited and brought into SHIELD. In 2003, Maria was brought into the Operations division of SHIELD and trained in the field by a supervising officer. She quickly set herself apart. Though she does refuse to speak of much of what she did there is an obvious change in her when her SHIELD record is brought up. She seems to show a great deal of respect for her supervising officer, David McDowell, and pride in her work. She has shown an ability to be almost clinical in her work. Something that can be supported by what I can find out about her past. She is very straight forward in almost everything she does. She learned the rules of SHIELD and has for the most part tried to stick to them, while still having the foresight to think out of the box. It does not surprise me that she rose through the ranks so quickly. After 5 years of service she was running her own field office. There are quite a few assessments in her file of varying opinions. Some say she isn’t creative enough to be effective others rave over her ability to get the job done and done fast. The latter seems to be why she was promoted. When asked about the promotions she simply stated that she did her job and someone saw it. She doesn’t seem to want to boast or brag about anything she had done in her life. She is rather humble and tends to look at it as doing what she must. She does not see helping to save the world as anything other than her duty. She is simply playing the cards she was dealt. This may be what attracted Director Fury to her in the first place. Her field office was one of the most efficient at the time. It was run with precision. Maria has proven she excelled in the field but was even better in a command position. She rose to the clerical challenge that came with the job with ease. She very much lead by example and the agents bellow her followed suit in all she did. Though some say that she was promoted because of her pretty face it is my opinion that she showed the ability to do the job and therefore Director Fury chose her. Maria has leadership skills that made her an ideal candidate when his old number 2 fell 5 years ago. He did not seem to take much time in choosing her. She undoubtedly gained his attention with her exemplarily record. I have spoken to her at length about her current job as deputy director and her relationship with Nick Fury. She shows a above average level of loyalty. This may be one of the reasons she was chose by the director. It seems that she does not always agree with the director’s decisions but she knows he tends to know what is best and listens anyway. However, at the same time she does speak up for the opposite opinion. It seems to puts a balance on Nick Fury that he needs. She shows him the other side. In speaking to the director he seems to trust her as well. They are both very untrusting of people, him far more than her, but yet they have found a trust in each other. This is obviously a good thing. This may be what helped save us during the battle of New York. For which Maria was intimately connected to. She does not seem to approve of the Avengers Initiative. She seems to not like the idea of trusting the world to a bunch of super powered beings with no real loyalty to SHIELD. This seems to cause some friction between Director Fury and herself, but like in other things she has gone along with it. Something that when speaking to her she seems to feel was the right choice. They appear to be a group that is growing on her. In our sessions her demeanor when talking about the heroes seems to have grown and changed. By this point she finds them to be a needed thing that they should only use in extreme emergencies. Maria over all shows a loyalty to SHIELD that will be beneficial. She does work too much and it is my recommendation she be forced to take some kind of vacation, though good like telling her that. She is a workaholic giving her entire life to this organization. She does not appear based on our conversations to have any kind of outside personal life. Though this is the case for many high up agents in our organization. Over all Maria is a stable and capable agents with some past issues that do not affect her in her daily life. She is approved for any and all duty that is required for her.
