[PTabbedContent][PTab=GENERAL INFORMATION] CHARACTER INFO: NAME: Joshua Zachariah Guthrie ALIAS: Jay, Icarus AGE: 26 OCCUPATION: Musician, Bass Guitarist for Bedazzled MEMBER GROUP: Mutant, Civilian POWERS AND ABILITIES: Jay is the third of the Guthrie children to develop his mutant abilities, and his are listed below. Flight/Wings: Jay has the ability to fly, via a pair of feathered, cardinal red wings that protrude from his back. Jay can reach a maximum altitude of 10,000 feet, with not much effort. He can attempt to go higher, but he can barely reach 11,000 feet, and often he can only remain at these heights for up to five minutes at a time, having to come back down to a more comfortable level due to the thinner air present at those heights. He can fly on his own ability for a total of twelve hours before he must rest. Jay can fly, at maximum horizontal speed, 150 mph, and he can dive at a maximum of 300 mph. Usually there is no need for him to fly that fast, and he generally flies between 30-50 mph, depending on the weather. Jay’s wings are not permanently out all the time; his mutation allows him to pull them back within his body and push them out at will. Avian Physiology: Jay’s mutation also made his body adapt more to an aerial environment; he is more lithe and muscular than most, and some of his bones are actually hollow, allowing him to fly. He also developed a transparent third eyelid to help protect his eyes from high wind velocities and keep his eyes clear. His vision was also enhanced greatly, and is now at 20/10 and the ability to see in the ultraviolet spectrum. His physiology also allows him to ‘detect’ magnetic fields and avoid them while flying. His physiology also makes it near impossible for him to gain weight, at the cost of upping his metabolic rate as well, which also makes it extremely difficult for him to get drunk. Jay has to eat a lot to feel sustained throughout a day. Finally, Jay’s lungs have adapted, allowing him to pull oxygen from the air at the height altitudes that he can fly at. All of these things also make it so that Jay takes significantly less damage from falling than a normal person. Superhuman Stamina: Jay’s stamina increased to keep up with his body, and he doesn’t hit exhaustion as fast as most people. Like his maximum flight hours, he can push himself to keep going without too many problems for twelve hours before fatigue will set in. Superhuman Durability: Jay has to be durable to endure the wind speeds and friction while in flight. He is by no means bullet proof or even blunt trauma proof, but it does take a little more effort to damage him with blunt trauma weapons than most. Superhuman Strength: Jay was already fairly strong from working on the farm when his powers developed and gave his strength a little push; now he can lift 500 pounds with ease, and with a little more effort, he can push himself to lift about 600 pounds. Regeneration: Jay has a unique ability, disconnected slightly from the rest of his mutations; he has an extremely accelerated healing factor, allowing him to recover from injuries that would prove fatal to most humans. While he regenerates almost all wounds, he will not regrow limbs if they are severed from his body. His regeneration is also tied directly with his wings, so if they are heavily damaged or removed, he will either regenerate slowly, or in the case of total removal of both wings, he will no longer have the ability. It is suspected that Jay might have the ability to heal others as well, but so far, there hasn’t been any sign of it. Vocal Manipulation: Jay’s secondary main power, aside from his flight. His vocal chords were also enhanced; Jay now possesses the ability to do a variety of things with his voice, including perfect mimicry of a person’s voice or the sound of an animal or object, making multiple voices or sounds happen at once, or messing around with different frequencies, allowing him to influence the emotions of others. He can also make his own voice hypnotic to the listener, but he doesn’t do it very often and can only issue simple commands; complex ones will not work, and he cannot make people intentionally harm themselves. TALENT: Audio Memory: Even before he became a mutant, Jay had the ability to remember everything he’s ever heard; it made learning songs easy for him because he could remember all the notes with perfect clarity, but this photographic style memory only applies to his hearing. SKILLS: Playing Guitar: Jay is very skilled at playing both electric and acoustic guitar, as well as a bass guitar. That’s the limit of his instrument playing though. Singing: Jay has a rich baritone singing voice and he can belt it out with the best of them. Gardening: Growing up on a farm has left Jay with some ability to grow his own food, not that he gets much of a chance these days. But if you need help with your garden, he’s not too far away. Cooking: Jay can take care of himself properly, and he knows how to cook fairly well. Organization: Being responsible for seven younger siblings at times got crazy, and Jay is very prepared to deal with any problems that come his way and about getting things back on track. Leadership: Though he is a more soft-spoken individual, Jay can take charge when the situation calls for it. Ventriloquism: Jay developed this skill after discovering his vocal imitation abilities. It comes in handy when he needs a distraction and he’s able to throw his voice to make it sound like it is coming from another place. PLAYBY: Tjin Elbers OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: Norse AGE: 23 GENDER: Lady TIMEZONE: EST/GMT-5 OTHER CHARACTERS: Sigyn Iwadlidottir [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock and Roll: Though Jay’s taste in music is eclectic, these genres are close to him, the first three being because that was the type of music he’d been exposed to outside of gospel, and it was the first kind of music he ever played. Rock and Roll has been some of the first music he branched out too, and it helps that he plays in a Rock Band Performing: Jay is a little bit of a showoff, so he enjoys performing. It allows him to show off his skills, but he also just enjoys the environment. He likes giving people a great performance, so that they can get a rich, full experience with the concert. Westerns: Jay is a fan of the old western shows. It goes back to an earlier time where he, his brother and his father used to watch Gunsmoke and Bonanza together, and he kind of likes them in general. There’s something appealing about the near lawless nature of the west. Strong Women: Jay admits that he likes very tough, strong willed women. Girls who know who they are and accept it are definitely the most attractive to him, despite his relationship issues. Flying: Jay can do what most people only dream of; he can fly. It’s an exhilarating and amazing experience, and he often takes advantage of the times when he is able to stretch his wings and fly. Dark Beers: Despite his inability to get drunk, or maybe because of it, Jay has become a beer snob, somewhat. He really enjoys dark, rich beers, and he definitely doesn’t consider light beer even worth drinking. Flannel: It goes with everything and its comfortable. Harmless Pranks: Jay was the funny sibling growing up, and is surprisingly a bit of a prankster. He likes to joke around with a lot of people, and he figures that silly, harmless pranks are an easy way to get a laugh. DISLIKES: Intolerance: Jay intensely dislikes people who are bigoted or intolerant; and he especially has a problem with it coming from the Christian community and its set of extremists. Intolerance of any kind will definitely get under his skin. Rats: Jay dislikes almost all vermin, having been one of the ones back home to have to remove them. Rats take the brunt of his dislike though, and he can’t understand how anyone could find them cute. Autotune: As a musician, Jay finds auto-tuning ones voice a cheap replica of talent, and he especially dislikes music that tends to incorporate it. This includes a lot of pop and rap music of today. Assumptions: Jay dislikes people assuming things about him just from the way he dresses and talks; they seem to assume that because he came from Southern Kentucky, he is dumb, and that gets under his skin, something he shares in common with most of his family. People assuming that they are stupid hicks from the boonies or incestuous hillbillies tend to get Jay kind of angry. Assumptions about a person because of their appearance is also distasteful for Jay. Obsessive People: Jay doesn’t much care for people who get too attached to him…or others, mostly stemming from his own crazy ex-girlfriend. He has a tendency to try and avoid these types of people, as well. Superficiality: Jay really dislikes superficial things and people; People who pretend to like you because it appears good really get under his skin. If there’s one thing he thinks people should be above all else, it is true to themselves. Fossil Fuels: Since it was coal mining that killed his father and continues to kill many people in his hometown, Jay is an advocate for green energy, hoping to prevent more people from suffering the fate of coal miners. Oil spills are also damaging, and he could go on. So he has particular issues with those politicians who want to keep using these non-infinite energy sources. STRENGTHS: Compassionate: Jay is a generally kind, caring and generous individual, often offering to help others whenever there is a need, and giving when he can. Loyal: Jay is very loyal to his friends and family, and is there for them through thick and thin. He will not betray anyone’s trust if he can avoid it. Once you’ve got him as a friend, Jay will have your back. Thoughtful: Jay is a very thoughtful person, and tried to consider the stances of all parties involved in a situation, and he cares about what happens to other people. Generally he tries to strike a compromise between people, if he can. If not, he’ll at least listen. Creative: Jay is a fairly creative individual, though more with building the music for a song rather than its lyrics. He is also the type of person to think outside the box and finds unorthodox solutions to some problems. Self-Assured: Though sometimes he has his moments of insecurity, for the most part, Jay knows who he is, what he wants and doesn’t have many times of self-doubt. WEAKNESSES: Reckless: Jay will act on impulse, often jumping into situations without knowing the full story sometimes, or he will go off and do some extreme sports, without thinking about the consequences of his actions first. Forgiving: Jay is incredibly optimistic about people in general, and is willing to give them more than a few chances to redeem themselves. He is not overly trusting, but he will often forgive many a person, even those who probably don’t deserve it. Self-Critical: While Jay tends to be more forgiving of other people’s mistakes and missteps, he is his own worst enemy and his worst critic. This can lead to being stuck down in the dumps a lot longer for him sometimes. Competitive: If there is one thing Jay is other than musical, it is competitive. Usually, he competes in good spirit, but he can get carried away with his competitive nature and can take things to the extreme. Reserved: Jay is more naturally inclined to be reserved, and so he suffers from being overshadowed by those with bigger personalities, and he does have a tendency to become either a wallflower or a shrinking violet in everyday social situations or when he is by himself. GOALS: Jay would like to eventually settle down and have a family, or at least be with someone who understands that music is his life. He would also like to settle his drama with Julia and the Cabots in general, something that isn't being helped by the current custody battle going on. Jay would also like to one day be able to walk down the street with his wings out, no longer having to hide his mutant status. FEARS: Jay fears his family dying, and several other things, but one of the things he fears most is fading away. He feels constantly overshadowed by his older siblings, and tries to stand out from the family of ten. Plus, there is always a chance he won’t make it; he’ll fail like many promising musicians before him. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Jay is a fairly down to earth and laid back person. For the most part, anyway; he does have a wild streak in him that shows up from time to time. Jay is surprisingly shy at first, being more reserved with acquaintances and people he’s just met outside of performing. Once he loosens up a bit, though, you can count on him to liven up your life. Another persistent quality about Jay is his eternal optimism; he’s generally happy, and he believes in the trying to make the best of things. This is not to say that he doesn’t experience negative emotions, because he does. It is simply that Jay will bounce back from them all eventually. The darker side of Jay is the fact that he is super self-critical. He holds himself to impossible standards at times, and when he fails to meet them, he is extremely hard on himself, and he can get stuck feeling sorry for himself until someone slaps some sense into him. This can also apply to anger; while it is very difficult to get Jay truly angry, once he is, good luck trying to calm him down. Passion can have both good and bad effects, after all. Jay is also one to try and hide difficult things happening in his life; he doesn’t want to worry anyone. This can also lead to an inability to confide in others when things in his life aren’t going so great. Jay is a good guy, if a bit too hard on himself sometimes. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: BIRTHPLACE: Cumberland, Kentucky RESIDENCE: Jay doesn’t really have a house or apartment yet. He should probably get one, but he mostly lives in hotels or on the tour bus a lot, so he hasn’t really seen the need to get one for the moment. He will actually start thinking about it when it becomes necessary PARENTS: Thomas Guthrie|Father|38|Deceased Lucas Guthrie|Uncle|57|Alive Lucinda Guthrie|Mother|54|Alive SIBLINGS: Samuel “Sam” Guthrie|33|Older Brother|Alive Paige Guthrie|30|Older Sister|Alive Melody Guthrie|24|Younger Sister|Alive Jebediah “Jeb” Guthrie|23|Younger Brother|Alive Elizabeth Guthrie|22|Younger Sister|Alive Joelle Guthrie|21|Younger Sister|Alive Lewis Guthrie|20|Younger Brother|Alive Cecelia “Cissie” Guthrie|18|Younger Sister|Alive Lillian “Lily” Guthrie|18|Younger Sister|Alive Raymond Jr.|23|Foster Brother|Alive IMPORTANT RELATIVES: Most of Jay’s family is very important to him, but he has a close bond with his younger sister, Melody and his younger brother Jeb. He also looks up to his older brother, but can get annoyed with constant comparisons between him and Sam. He also has a baby on the way with his ex, and is currently embroiled in a custody battle. IMPORTANT PERSON: No one anymore, but he’s hopeful that a new gal might come along! OVERALL HISTORY: Joshua Guthrie was the third child born to Thomas and Lucinda Guthrie, and his childhood was fairly normal; he tagged along after his older siblings when he could, and worked on the farm with his family, and eventually having his own younger siblings tag along after him. Life was fairly normal, but the Guthrie’s often had to pass on things like new clothes for the younger siblings, and many a time someone had to go without new shoes for a while. They were not a rich family, but they were happy. Then, Thomas passed away. It was the black lung from the coalmine that had gotten him. Jay was only eleven years old. Money got tighter, and his older brother, Sam, ended up taking on the role of being the man of the house and getting job, which meant that he had to take the only one available; coal mining. On Sam’s first day of work in the mine, his powers manifested. The family was soon contacted by Professor Xavier, and after much debate, Sam left to train and learn at Xavier’s Institute for gifted youngsters. Jay ended up taking on the role of the secondary adult in the house despite his age, as Sam was now away at school and his older sister had become obsessed with finding out if she was a mutant as well. Her obsession consumed her, to the point of pushing even her family away for a while, until Sam came back for a visit a year later. Paige then revealed her mutant status and left with Sam when his vacation back home was up. Now it was only Jay who was the man of the house. At such a young age, this was a heavy burden for him. He had to become one to try and protect his family from the ire they were drawing from the town; one mutant child was bad enough, but two? They were starting to think that the Guthries were some mutant freak family, and the ostracizing had begun. Jay knew how people could get, so he was often shielding his other siblings from the glares and harsh words of the townspeople. This was in addition to starting his short lived high school career. In addition to his being the older sibling, Jay continued to pursue his own interests, which involved music. He managed to get a band together, and they were getting fairly good at what they were doing. It did come as a surprise when he developed his powers; unlike his siblings, Jay just woke up one day and found that he had wings, among some other interesting abilities. Jay decided to keep his powers a secret for as long as possible, in order to keep helping his mother out with the home and earning a wage to help support the family as well. His younger siblings still weren't of working age. Jay continued to work on his music, but his first garage band had to disband due to Jay having to work a lot. Once some of his younger siblings got jobs as well, Jay was able to return his focus back toward music, and get a band together again. He dropped out of high school in his senior year, so that he could focus all his time on his music. During one of his band’s gigs, Jay met and began a relationship with a girl named Julia Cabot. Another complication in his life, as the Guthrie family and the Cabot family had been feuding for a long time, supposedly ever since their ancestors had settled in the town. Jay and Julia didn’t care about the rivalry between their families at first. They were going to go off and get married, and everything would be smoothed over. At least, that’s what they thought at the time. Julia even accepted the fact that Jay was a mutant. They managed to keep their relationship a secret for four years, but nothing lasts forever. Her parents found out and did not accept the fact that her boyfriend was a Guthrie, and on top of that, a mutant. Jay discovered his regeneration ability when Julia’s father tried to kill him. A shotgun wound to the chest would kill most people, but not Jay. He got lucky. He started to reconsider his relationship with Julia; if their own families weren’t going to come around and hers was actively trying to murder him, he didn’t know how things were going to work out. During this phase, though, Julia discovered she was pregnant. Suddenly the game had changed. Jay told her that he was going to pursue music, and even tried to convince her to come along with him at least part of the way. He knew his life would be hectic, but he was hoping to get through it. This would require them to leave their homes, however, something Jay was willing to do but Julia was not, and this wasn't a decision they could consider at their leisure. This was the lynchpin that ultimately ended their relationship; Jay wasn’t willing to give up on his dream, and Julia wasn’t willing to compromise and support him, despite being in love with him. The constant fights were no good, and eventually Jay called off the relationship, though he told her he’d still be willing to help her out with their child. Julia didn’t take it well and tried to kill herself the night before Jay left for Nashville, prompting him to get a lawyer, as well as inspiring feelings of guilt in him. Maybe she wouldn’t have tried to kill herself if he’d done more to save their relationship. He still currently fighting for custody of his child, not willing to trust the Cabot family with a potential mutant, nor be cut out of his child's life. The court proceedings have been going on for the past year and a half. He went up to Nashville with his band, where they tried to make it big together, but it just wasn’t happening, and eventually some of the members left, finding other career paths or callings, leaving the band to fall apart. Jay stuck around, taking whatever work he could get, occasionally filling in for other bassists or guitarists when the main ones couldn’t make it. While he was on tour with one of the bluegrass bands, he eventually ran across Bedazzled. Liking the sound of Rock and Roll, Jay followed the band on social media and listened to their music. When it came up that they were looking for a bassist, Jay instantly applied, and was accepted into the band. Life is good, for the moment.
