[PTabbedContent][PTab=GENERAL INFORMATION] CHARACTER INFO: NAME: Robert 'Bruce' Banner ALIAS: Hulk, The Incredible Hulk, the Big guy, the Other Guy AGE: 45, 18th December 1969 OCCUPATION: Avenger, Biochemist, Nuclear Physicist, Physician. MEMBER GROUP: Avengers POWERS AND ABILITIES: Bruce Banner has no super-powers to speak of, other than a high-level intellect which has mostly been achieved through natural talent and hard work. However, when he transforms into the Hulk, his attributes alter hugely: Hulk Transformation - The painful transformation from Bruce Banner to Hulk occurs when his heart rate increases to 200 beats per minute or higher. His muscle mass, bone and tissue density, and size increases hugely, skin turning a deep green hue. Bruce has reached a point where he is now able to trigger his transformation if he wishes to which will turn him from Banner into the Hulk, but still has no way to reverse the transformation at will to turn himself back. Superhuman Strength - Hulk's increased muscle mass and inability to feel strain or fatigue gives him unimaginable strength, enabling him to lift in excess of one hundred tonnes while in an enraged state. He can strike the ground to create huge tremors, as well as clap his hands to create a wave of kinetic force. In addition to this, he is able to leap great distances in a single bound, despite his weight, allowing him to reach the top of some skyscrapers in a single leap, and travelling around 150 miles per hour if constantly travelling by jumping. Hulk's strength is enhanced in static (the ability to hold or carry large weights), dynamic (overcoming an opposing force) and explosive (highly increasing the speed of contraction to overcome a force) forms. In the case of his dynamic strength, this has the ability to increase the longer the force is maintained, for example meaning that if he were to push against a seemingly immovable object, his dynamic force would increase for the longer he pushed against it rather than remain at the same force level for the duration. His explosive strength is directly correlation to his rage at the time. Superhuman Durability and Healing - The Hulk's skin is near impenetrable and, even if something were to pierce it, his sub-dermal tissue and bones are also exceptionally dense and near-indestructible. His ability to feel pain is far lower than that of a human, meaning he is able to ignore bullets and other attacks if he so chooses. In those situations where someone is able to cause him physical harm, he also has a regenerative healing ability on his side which allows him to recover with unusual speed. This healing factor also makes both the Hulk and Dr. Banner immune to disease and viral infections, and should Banner be exposed to a life-threatening attack then his transformation into the Hulk is almost immediate to prevent it (to the point where the Hulk was able to prevent one of Banner's own suicide attempts). It is important to note that while his pain tolerance is exceptionally high, he is not numb to pain or any other tactile sensation. Superhuman Speed - Thanks to his muscular strength, the Hulk is able to run at great speeds despite his weight, though his reflexes and agility remain unaffected. For example, he could run at something at superhuman speed, yet would still only give a normal reaction time to any unexpected incoming attacks. He picks up speed very quickly over a short period of time, though stopping is often somewhat harder! Superhuman Endurance - The Hulk's healing factor counteracts fatigue chemicals in his muscles, meaning it takes a huge deal of strain for him to become tired to a point where he cannot continue. The greater his rage, the greater his endurance! AS it stands, there have been few times where Hulk is in a battle situation where he has tired himself out, and it is far more common for him to simply fight himself into boredom than it is for his endurance to run flat. PLAYBY: Mark Ruffalo OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: KJ AGE: Ancient GENDER: Star-kin TIMEZONE: GMT OTHER CHARACTERS: Loki [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY Bruce Banner tries exceptionally hard to keep his cool at all times. It has not been a particularly easy personality trait to force upon himself but, when faced with the alternative, he's done his utmost to employ it. From calming thoughts to breathing exercises, Bruce does his best to keep his mind level and his heart-rate calm as much as he can, though even he has his limits on just how much mental stress he can take. Knowing that his resolve isn't unbreakable, he takes care to remove himself from stressful situations where possible in an attempt to minimise any chance of 'the other guy' making an unwanted appearance. Banner's life has been a relatively lonely one since his transformation, having spent several years on the run and never settling into one place, and being incapable of forming intimate relationships with others due to the risk it poses to his heart rate. He has gained a few friends thanks to the Avengers initiative and S.H.I.E.L.D. calling off the manhunt on him, but romance has been strictly off the cards ever since he figured out the danger it posed to him and others. Generally speaking, Bruce is quite a likeable character, soft-spoken and perhaps a little shy and nervous, but otherwise kind and compassionate in his nature. While he values intelligence in others, he also knows the importance of morality when making scientific advances, his own creation having been due to the immoral actions of another. Despite knowing where his own moralities lie, arguing is not often one of his strong points due to his desire to be as stress-free as possible, and the right words can encourage him into the wrong actions purely for an 'easier ride'. Despite all this, Bruce has a definite sarcastic streak, which given his life is not entirely shocking. He often makes jokes when he feels uncomfortable (which happens more often than he'd like), and makes light of his own mental failings. It is no secret that he has attempted suicide several times, even going so far as to put a pistol in his mouth and fire, only to have the Hulk instantly transform and spit the bullets back out. While Bruce may appear to have a handle on things now, he knows that he won't be able to stop thinking about ending his life any time soon. The Hulk is another matter entirely. Simple-minded and incredibly violent, the Hulk is a culmination of all of Banner's worst traits, then amplified to an extreme. Swift to anger, defensive and almost impossible to reason with, the Hulk is a largely unstoppable force that many struggle to ever calm once he is on a rampage. Hulk takes pleasure in destruction, and reacts extremely viciously when he is attacked. Those who are able to calm him are few and far between, and even for them it is a dangerous task to undertake. Despite this, the Hulk is not a complete simpleton. He understands most of what is said to him, and is able to think with a small degree of combat strategy. As such, he is capable of understanding instructions that are given to him, though whether or not he chooses to follow them is another matter entirely, but it has been noted that he did obey commands relatively well during the battle for Manhattan. He also seems to retain a small portion of Bruce Banner's compassionate streak, as shown in certain situations where he will act differently in the face of seeing the lives of those he loves being threatened. Because of this, it is not clear where Bruce Banner ends and the Hulk begins, even to Bruce himself. Hulk has been shown to have a certain capacity to develop and learn, his savage nature still existing but over time having been supplemented with an increased willingness to work alongside others, and even co-exist calmly with them at times. WEAKNESSES Bruce Banner possesses all the weaknesses of any other human, possessing limited physical strength and almost no combat skills. He struggles at times to control his emotions and once he starts to anger, he finds it difficult to calm himself back down. The Hulk, however, has several more specific weaknesses: Lowered Cognitive Ability - The Hulk's mind is far simpler than that of Bruce Banner's, and incapable of higher level cognitive thought. He is aggressive and sometimes easily manipulated, and can be near impossible to reason with. However, he has developed to a point where he can feel compassion towards certain individuals or innocent bystanders, which can distract him from his foes. Increased Aggression - His anger is uncontrollable as the Hulk, and even the smallest of stimuli can cause that to rapidly increase. Even as Bruce Banner he finds his temper is often difficult to control, though as the Hulk he has little chance at all. Normal Reflexes - Hulk's reflexes and reaction times are exactly as would be expected from a creature of his size and mass, meaning that he can be evaded and bested by faster foes. NOTABLE EQUIPMENT Laboratory - Bruce has access to his own laboratory within Stark Tower, as well as his own home and laboratory in Nova Scotia. It is here that he tends to spend much of his time, the relative solitude making him feel safe. Heart Rate Monitor - Bruce never takes off the heart-rate monitor watch from around his wrist, with which he is able to identify whether he is at risk of becoming the Hulk. Custom Clothing - Developed by Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, part of Bruce's new wardrobe is made of unstable molecule fabric, the same as which Mr. Fantastic uses in his own uniform to prevent it from ripping as he stretches. Almost all of his shorts (which he permanently wears beneath his pants) are made from this material to prevent any... unpleasant occurrences when transformed into the Hulk. ASSOCIATES AND CONTACTS Tony Stark - While Stark might enjoy pushing his buttons, Bruce has become accustomed to this behaviour and is now capable of largely tolerating it. As such, Tony is Banner's closest ally, and probably his best friend. He figures the feeling must be mutual, considering how Stark confided in him after the attacks made on him by the Mandarin. The Avengers - Having proven his use to them in the battle for New York, the Avengers appear to trust him enough to keep him around, despite Bruce being able to see the fear in some of their eyes every now and again when they worry he might be losing his cool. Despite that, it's quite nice to have people he can call on if he needs them. S.H.I.E.L.D. - Despite not being a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with any level of clearance, his position as an Avenger allows him to call upon the organisation for aid should he ever need it. Betty Ross - Bruce has kept his distance from Betty Ross completely since fighting Blonsky (who came to be known as the Abomination), not wanting to subject her to any more pain on his behalf. That said, a part of him still knows that if he were to reach out to her, she would respond. HISTORY Even from a young age, it was clear that Bruce Banner was going to do great things with his life. Always top of his class (or damn close to it) and intensely interested in constantly improving his understanding of the world, Bruce excelled academically far past his peers at all points of his education. Even after completing university and a further doctorate, he decided to continue expanding his knowledge and took up a position as a research scientist at Culver University, specializing in biochemistry and nuclear physics. Joined by his girlfriend Betty Ross, a graduate from Harvard and equally intellectually gifted, the two brought nothing but praise and admiration to the University with their work, which pushed the known boundaries of biochemistry. Their achievements did not go unnoticed, least of all by Betty's father: Lieutenant General Ross. Given his own work in researching biological methods to enhance soldiers (attempting to recreate the effects of Erskine's 'super soldier serum' to create a new wave of super soldiers), he had the two employed by the US Army with the intention of them taking on this so-far impossible task. Banner's job specifically was to attempt to make the human body immeasurably more resistant to radiation, allowing the human body to withstand the radioactive effects of anything akin to a nuclear bomb. The work was slow, and confidence in their progress began to noticeably dwindle, though Banner was certain he was on the right tracks. In conjunction with a serum Betty had developed, he was sure that the two combined would have positive results. Pushed daily for results that they simply didn't have, Bruce took the plunge and decided to test his own theories, confident enough that he'd gotten the science of the matter correct that he didn't fear the consequences. Utilizing an updated version of Erskine and Stark's 'Vita-Ray' machine of his own design, Bruce Banner took the serum and bombarded his body with large quantities of gamma radiation in an attempt to activate it. At first, the attempt seemed to be going successfully, his body and cells seeming not to deteriorate, but rather invigorate and replenish! However, they began to develop at an alarming rate, and rather than staying in his usual form Dr. Banner began to transform into something other. Both Dr. and General Ross attempted to cut off the power to the radiation machine but it was already too late. They could do little put watch as Banner began to mutate and transform, body bulging beyond all human norms, skin turning solid green, and his mind seemingly withdrawing into the recesses of his consciousness. What was left was a huge and aggressive monster who seemed to have no intentions other than to escape the laboratory. During this attempt he was shot at by General Ross, which only served to aggravate the beast further. In his rage, Betty was knocked aside and seriously injured, and it was only this that seemed to elicit some form of compassion in the creature, before further gunshots forced it to continue its destructive escaped. His escape made the papers, with people musing everything from mutants to aliens as the explanation for the giant green monster that had rampaged through the streets, before leaping an impossible distance and disappearing from view. When Bruce awoke, he was himself again, covered in the barely-there tatters of his remaining clothing, and miles outside of the city. He remembered flashed of what the monster had done, and was instantly concerned for Betty. Returning to the city as quickly as he could (and making a promise to himself to return and apologize for the clothing he'd stolen from some family's washing line) he made for the hospital, finding that Betty had taken such severe cranial trauma that she was comatose. Despite wishing to stay at her side, General Ross appeared and angrily ordered him to leave, too overcome with fear and grief for his daughter to be thinking rationally. And so, Bruce left. He returned, only briefly, to the facility where he had worked, trying desperately to find out where his calculations had gone so terribly wrong. It was while pouring through the files that he discovered that the serum Betty had created was not in-fact made to work alongside his own attempts to make a human resistant to radiation, but rather to use radiation to create bigger, stronger soldiers as part of something deemed "Weapon Plus". While Bruce couldn't discover more about the Weapon Plus program, the few details he could glean were enough to tell him he had been lied to, and was now potentially in great danger. So he escaped, fleeing the facility, state, and eventually attempted leaving the country by crossing Canadian border, having now been secretly declared a wanted man by the US Army, the hunt for Bruce Banner led by none other than General Ross himself. The crossing didn't go well. Bruce was discovered, and the huge creature (which Bruce soon came to refer to as the 'Hulk', having seen the name used to describe him in the papers) revealed itself once more, destroying most of the border control area and allowing Banner to escape imprisonment. From then on, he avoided anywhere he thought he might be recognized, not merely for his own safety but for the safety of all others. He eventually wound up in a factory in Brazil as an odd-jobs man, often called on to help repair the various mechanical devices around the run-down factory. While fixing a particular machine, Bruce accidentally cut his hand, and drops of his blood almost make it into one of the glass bottles moving through the plant. He managed t stop the production line and clear it up, not noticing another bottle remained contaminated, soon filled with drink and packaged up for shipment to the United States. This was eventually drunk, and the radiation poisoning the drinker received was picked up on by General Ross soon after, who took this to be a clue that they'd identified Banner's whereabouts. Bruce, meanwhile, remained entirely unaware that his cover had been blown. He'd taken to wearing a heart-rate monitor on his wrist at all times, having noticed the relationship between his heart rate and his transformation into the Hulk. Keeping his heart rate low was of the utmost importance if he didn't want to transform again. Desperate to undo the effects of the serum, Bruce continued his research (though admittedly now with far more primitive means) though every time he seemed to come close to an answer, it eluded him. He had help from an unknown online party named Mr. Blue, who insisted that the only possible way to help was Bruce sent him a blood sample which, with no other options left, he finally decided to do so. Time was running short for Banner, who had no idea he was being traced. While his mysterious contact seemed to be making headway with curing his gamma poisoning, they insisted that more data was needed to try and fully reverse the effects... data that Bruce simply did not have. That night was a restless one, which ended up being for the best as were it not, Bruce may never have noticed the many small signs that he had been found. Having heard a dog be suddenly silenced outside, he quickly made his escape from his apartment and ran for it, partly aided by a woman he had befriended during his time working at the bottling plant. The chase that ensued was a dangerous one, with Bruce's heart rate steadily increasing with each and every moment he ran. Desperately trying to lower his heart rate through breathing exercises, he was able to keep it steady enough to hold off the transformations for as long as he could, but knew he had to get out of the populated areas as quickly as possible just in case. He went to his factory, knowing the layout better than anyone, though the chase was not far behind him. Heart rate finally reaching 200bpm, Bruce was helpless as the transformation took over him, body morphing and growing once more entire the gigantic Hulk. The fight became far more one-sided from then on, his pursuers tranquillizer darts simply bouncing from his skin, and live rounds similarly having no effect, doing little but annoy the creature. He broke free of the factory and fled once more, leaving behind Bruce Banner's computer and documents he'd had before the transformation. Awakening at the edge of a Guatemalan jungle, he was lucky enough to flag down a passing van, offering to take him to the nearest town. There, he took to begging, the pennies and small change thrown his way enough to clothe him once more (this time favouring stretch pants in the hopes they might partially survive the transformation) as he slept rough, the intention being to finally make his way back home. It was a long and difficult journey, but Banner finally made his way back to to the United States and to Culver University, where he and Betty had first begun to work together professionally, and where she still worked as a professor of cellular biology. If seeing her again was hard, it was nothing compared to seeing her having moved on and finding a new love in her life, but at least that was enough to encourage Banner to let her go as best he could. Instead, he went and met with an old friend named Stan, who knew Bruce well enough to know that he would never do the terrible things that people claimed he was capable of, and agreed to help him. As well as putting Bruce up in his spare room, he allowed Banner to masquerade as a pizza delivery man to help him get into the University despite not having a staff or student ID. There, he was able to hack into the university computer systems, Betty's password still having not changed, and set about trying to find out whatever data he could regarding the experiment that changed his life. While there was no data he could find, he was at least able to get in touch with Mr. Blue once again, informing him the data regarding his transformation had been deleted. Knowing that staying in any one place for too long was dangerous, he made to leave Stan's pizzeria, accidentally running into Betty on the way. The two catching the briefest of glimpses of each other, he quickly fled through the back door and out of sight, knowing he couldn't be seen by her. The last thing he wanted was to get Betty involved in the mess that was his life. She did not give up so easily though, quickly tracking Banner down and begging him not to leave. Reluctantly he agreed, hiding in her car as she drive him to her home where, finally, he was able to get his hands on his and Betty's research data. She'd kept a copy of it secretly all these years, having copied it from their computers before the military had been able to delete it from the systems. Bruce explained the dangers of letting him fall into General Ross' hands, knowing that the military intended to test on him until they found out how to turn their serum into a biological weapon, justifying why he'd been in hiding for so long. The next day he planned to leave, Betty walking with him to the station so they could say one final goodbye to each other, but their plans were thwarted: general Ross had caught up with Bruce once more. Ordering Betty to get away from him as far as he possibly could, Bruce ran again, saving the data disc by painfully swallowing it and hoping the flash drive would survive. Having caught Bruce in a glass walkway, Betty attempted to run to his aid, only to be tackled to the ground by Ross's men. Seeing the woman he loved treated in such a way caused Bruce to almost instantly transform into the Hulk. General Ross used everything at his disposal to try to take down the Hulk, every bullet simply bouncing off his skin as he swiftly took out everyone who attacked him. What he didn't expect, however, was for Ross to have used another version of the serum on another soldier named Blonsky (one who'd originally pursued Bruce through Brazil), giving the man the speed and dexterity needed to effectively stand off against the Hulk. It gave General Ross the time he needed to bombard the Hulk with sonic waves which, for a time, appeared to work. However, it was Betty's calls for help once more that saw the Hulk persist, destroying the sonic cannons and seemingly killing Blonsky. Fired upon by gunship, the Hulk used his body to shield Betty Ross from harm as best he could, carrying her away from the soldiers and into hiding. He fled to the Smokey Mountains National Forest, taking refuge in a cave where Betty finally came round, able to see the Hulk for the simple-minded creature he was as he attempted to face off against the lightning in the skies. Able to calm him with ease, she led him into the shelter of the overhanging rocks, remaining at his side until he finally transformed back into Bruce Banner once more.Sneaking the two of them to the closest motel she booked them into a room where Bruce could recover and the two attempted to figure out where to go from there. The flash drive survived being swallowed (though throwing it back up wasn't entirely pleasant) and Betty provided him with new essentials, including another heart monitor watch and the stretchiest pair of pants she could find, despite Bruce's protestations that purple really wasn't his colour. It was then that Bruce made a rather unfortunate realization, as his intimate encounter that soon occurred with Betty showed his heart-rate rapidly increasing, indicating to him that he could most likely never be intimate with another person so long as the Hulk remained within him. Bruce was finally able to send his data to Mr. Blue, arranging to finally meet with him to try and figure out the mystery of the Hulk, and how to undo it. Continuing to dodge Ross' men they finally made it to New York City, making contact with Dr. Samuel Sterns, a cellular biologist at Grayburn College who worked under the alias of Mr. Blue. Sterns explained the risks they were taking, that the smallest error could result in Bruce's gamma poisoning increasing to dangerously high amounts, yet Banner felt there was little other choice: The Hulk had to go, and this was the only way he could see that happen. Sterns agreed to try and help Bruce, using a dialysis machine to mix his created antidote with Bruce's blood before reintroducing it to his veins, following this with electrical shock directly to the brain. What followed was a slow transformation as the Hulk began to push through, Betty struggling to keep Bruce calm as Stern's finally injected the antidote. To their surprise (and great relief!) it appeared to work. The Hulk transformed back into Bruce Banner. Bruce then learned that Sterns had used the blood sample he'd sent to him previously to try and synthesize it into serums to try and prevent disease (both radiation and otherwise) in all humans. despite the good intentions of Sterns, Banner insisted that the entire supply must be destroyed, knowing that there were few lengths that Ross would go to to turn it into a weapon. Before that could be done, General Ross caught up to the pair, shooting Bruce with a tranquillizer dart through the laboratory window and taking the pair captive. Flown out on a helicopter, it seemed that it was all over for Banner until an emergency call came in claiming the Hulk was still in the streets. Turning around, visuals told them that this was not the Hulk (clearly, since Bruce was still on board with Betty and the General), but something else entirely. The creature was Blonsky, transformed by a similar procedure to that which Bruce had taken. Knowing that there was nothing else that could stop the creature, Bruce plead with the General to let him go free to try and face the creature. With no idea if the antidote he had taken was a one-off suppression of the Hulk or something more permanent, he took the risk and threw himself from the helicopter, hoping that the fear and potential of death would be enough to see the Hulk come forward once more. His gamble paid off, and the transformation happened once more. It was clearly the Hulk that Blonsky had been waiting for, instantly zeroing in on the green monster. Despite Blonsky being the larger and apparently stronger of the two, he was far more single-minded and therefore less intelligent than the already simple Hulk., despite retaining the ability to speak. Blonsky attacked the helicopter the General and Betty were still travelling in, bringing it down and threatening to kill Betty in front of the Hulk. This seemed to be the push he needed to take on Blonsky with renewed fervour, each threat upon Betty seeing Hulk fight despite being seemingly incapacitated. He was finally able to wrap chains around Blonsky's neck, strangling him to the point of near death before being called to stop by Betty. Despite having saved the city from Blonsky's rampage, Hulk (or perhaps it was Bruce) knew that he still would never be free from being pursued and so, with one final utterance of her name, he fled once more and disappeared. He finally made his way into Canada where it seemed the army lost track of him. It was there that he finally accepted he was never going to get rid of the Hulk, so instead tried to learn to control him, attempting to find ways to trigger and reverse his transformations. Still feeling that being so close to America was a risk, he eventually found his way across the Atlantic, moving through Europe and finally finding relative peace and safety in India. Having discovered that triggering the 'Other Guy' was easy yet drawing him back in was far harder, Bruce had settled on trying to keep himself as calm as possible at all times and simply prevent the Hulk from ever taking hold of him. He busied himself by setting up in Kolkata, working as a doctor in the slums and shanty towns of the area, often working for very little but otherwise letting himself get lost in the sea of poverty, hoping to never be found. Over eighteen months later, a fever seemed to be going around with many people falling sick, and Bruce was convinced by a young girl holding out a handful of rupees to help her father, following the girl to what he assume was her home on the outskirts of the town, before confusedly watching her disappear through the window. He was not faced with a sick parent, but instead with an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., who he'd known to be in league with Ross in attempting to track him.The woman was Natasha Romanoff, Bruce amused by S.H.I.E.L.D.s assumption that sending an attractive woman after him would be enough to convince him to return (or indeed be enough to protect her from the Hulk). She insisted that it was not the Hulk they wanted but Banner himself, his knowledge on gamma radiation exceeding that of anyone else they had on record. A device they were tracing, called the Tesseract, apparently gave off gamma rays and they hoped to use that in an attempt to find it. Despite claiming they are alone, a brief burst of apparent anger from Bruce is enough to reveal that they are in-fact surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Despite not being entirely sure if he believes Romanov, he agrees to the taken back to aid with the attempts to find the Tesseract. Worst comes to worst, he figured, he could always escape again... Brought on-board a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier (an unwise choice, he thought, as the last place you want to be if the Hulk shows up is surely on a huge chuck of metal in the sky) he was introduced to other members of the team that had been drawn together for this task, including Captain America (he'd heard the man was alive again, but it was a little surprising to see it), Thor of Asgard (really? They were dealing with Gods now?) and Tony Stark, who Bruce would have been a poor scientist indeed if he'd not known the name of. Stark was aware of his work, it seemed, and despite Stark not really being a calming sort of influence to be around he actually found a certain pleasure in finally being able to talk on the same intellectual level as someone else. Together, the pair set about trying to locate the device, though it became clear from the start that members of this group were going to struggle to get along, and when coupled with unsubtle comments that Bruce needed to remain calm it became a somewhat stressful situation to be in. When the criminal Loki, brother of Thor, was finally apprehended things really seemed to come to a head. Stark and Rogers were able to reveal that S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't just planning to retrieve the Tesseract, but instead use it to create weapons. Having been tricked before into working for what he believed was the greater good, only to discover he was in-fact aiding in the creation of weapons of war, Banner too particular offence to this. Emotions already running high, it was no surprise that a subsequent attack on the helicarrier was enough to push Banner over the edge, the Hulk bursting forth as Banner's heart-rate rose and his life appeared endangered. He ended up tearing apart areas of the interior of the helicarrier, focusing on Romanoff as he hunted her through the floating fortress before being distracted by Thor, whose strength drew the Hulk's attention to him with ease. It was enough to keep him busy and focus his efforts on a single target, Thor's hammer proving invaluable in dealing with the creature, yet the damage created by their battle posed a risk of tearing the entire helicarrier apart. Instead, he was lured off the carrier by a fighter jet, Hulk leaping out to the craft and tearing it apart as it fell back down to earth... When he awoke it was in a disused factory, a security guard throwing him some clothes having seen him fall from the sky then transform back into a man. Relieved to hear he'd not hurt anyone when he'd hit the surface (and surprised to hear from the guard that he'd been conscious the whole time and seemingly chosen to remove himself from causing any potential danger), he clothed himself and pondered on what to do next. Clearly he was a danger to others, but was he more of a danger than Loki and the Tesseract? His decision was almost made for him when he saw what Loki had done with the Tesseract's power, opening a portal in the sky to another galaxy, alien invaders soon pouring through and attacking the city of New York. Despite his reservations, Bruce made his way to Manhattan and arrived when the invasion was fully rampaging through the streets. It was then that he finally revealed to the team the level of control he did have over his power, forcing his transformation into the Hulk and joining the fray. The Hulk was single-handedly powerful enough to take down not only the Chitauri warriors, but also the gigantic leviathans that seemed otherwise unstoppable. Tearing through the invasion and incredibly seeming to work knowingly alongside the efforts of the rest of the Avengers, he became instrumental in stopping Loki, grabbing the supposed God and smashing him repeatedly into the floor of Tony Stark's penthouse, injuring him to a point where he could not continue. The Hulk's ability to do good surprised the team yet again as Stark took hold of missiles aimed at the city in the hope of wiping out the invasion, flying one straight up into the portal and detonating it. Falling back through to Earth just before the portal closed, it was Hulk who caught his unconscious body as it plummeted back towards the ground, depositing it safely back on the surface where Iron Man finally came back around. The war was won, Banner proving not only that the Hulk was still a danger but more importantly that he was able to control him to some degree. With this in mind, as well as thanks for the aid he provided in stopping Loki's invasion, he was permitted some level of freedom by S.H.I.E.L.D. and finally allowed to live without constantly fearing arrest. He returned to Stark Tower with Tony, giving him what aid he could in the repair of the building before retreating to the lab the billionaire made specifically for him, remaining there for most of his waking life from there-on in. He largely avoided stress from then on, even seeing situations where he felt the Hulk might be able to help but too afraid to do so in case he lost control. Control his still his primary directive, not feeling he can safely perform as a member of the Avengers until he is able to completely get a handle on the ability to transform back and forth at will. Eventually he moved into premises of his own in Nova Scotia, the area relatively quite and far more suitable for him should he ever accidentally trigger a transformation. He has been there for a while and, quite to his surprise, has found himself somewhat missing the company of others. It's quite normal now for him to simply sit and consider returning to New York and to the rest of the Avengers... but he's not sure he trusts himself to do so.
