[PTabbedContent][PTab=GENERAL INFORMATION] CHARACTER INFO: NAME: Steve Grant Rogers ALIAS: Captain America, the First Avenger. AGE: 97. OCCUPATION: Avenger. Otherwise, an unemployed fossil. MEMBER GROUP: Avenger, Superhuman. POWERS AND ABILITIES: Enhanced Physiology: Essentially all of Steve is enhanced to above human maximum. Though he's far from the strongest Avenger, he's received substantial buffs across the board. He is a good deal faster and stronger than even an Olympian athlete, and has more endurance, agility and durability as well. He can heal almost twice the rate of normal humans, his aging has slowed to a halt, and all of his senses are top notch. Nonetheless, being simply better than even a peak athlete doesn't protect him against much. PLAYBY: Chris Evans. OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: El AGE: 23 GENDER: Lady. TIMEZONE: EST. OTHER CHARACTERS: [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: Easy-Listening, Soul, R&B, the Blues: Though he can appreciate modern music, most of it comes in the form of easy listening, else new bands and songs from the genres that he enjoyed when he was young, like R&B, and the Blues. Barbecue Anything: Steve is crazy about barbecue foods and cookouts. If he ever had the privilege of having a back yard, he'd invite the Avengers over sometime. Dogs: Though he never had the privilege of having a dog, growing up he was close with his neighbor's dog, and has had a fondness for them ever since. Burgers: An American classic. Fresh Cut Grass: One of the best smells in the world, especially after a light rain. Baseball: The greatest American pastime. Though it's since been unseated by Football, Steve still prefers it more. Ralph Waldo Emerson: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” That, and so many more of his quotes helped shape Steve into the man that he is. Tony: Though he likes all of the Avengers, his dynamic with Tony is decidedly unique. He respects the man and admires him for his intelligence and commitment to the job. Unfortunately... DISLIKES: Tony: The two butt heads. Though Tony has many admirable traits, he has many traits that rub Steve the wrong way, including his tendency to showboat, argue, and generally sew dissension in the ranks when he disagrees. Steve is also concerned about Tony's reliance on certain substances, especially when they contribute to his ongoing tardiness. HYDRA: Seriously. They sucked back in the day. Hard. Modern Music: With the exception of the few genres noted above, Steve doesn't like modern music in the slightest. To him, techno, dance and dubstep all sound like computers hemorrhaging parts. Modern country is awful, and sounds like cats in heat. And rap? Where's the music in it? Hip-hop is marginally better, but he prefers slam poetry to rap. Cats: As a rule of thumb he doesn't like most cats. He finds them impossible in their temperament, haughty, vainglorious, sneaky, moody and deceptive creatures. Friendlier cats that are more dog like in their behavior are fine with him. Bigots: Steve isn't the type of man to judge off of skin color, religion, height or abledness. Seeing people being so shallow and prejudiced as to do that makes him very uncomfortable. When things get outwardly vicious, either in words or physically, Steve will step in. Sore Winners: As the guy that roots for the underdog, he isn't a fan of the habitual winner. Especially the winner that brags about it and shames their competition. Misogynists: Though this is still a form of bigotry, this one makes Steve the most uncomfortable. Though more progressive than many in his era, Steve still holds some ideals. That women are to be cherished and loved, so violence against them is unspeakable. Unless they're really, really bad women, he won't lay a hand. STRENGTHS: Idealistic: Anyone can count on Steve to do the right thing, or advise the best course of action where morals are concerned. It might not always be the most practical in any given situation, but it is always his preferred course of action. Even those that don't agree with Steve's views or decisions find him admirable for his incorruptible nature. Kind: Steve is capable of great kindness, charity and generosity. Of the Avengers, he would be most likely to save a kitten from a tree. And he's done it before. Intelligent: Though he's not the smartest among his compatriots, and might be one of the least intelligent of the Avengers, Steve things quickly on his feet, and makes use of resources. He also has a mind for tactics and strategy, and can usually make good common sense decision. Just don't ask him about any modern academia, culture or electronics. Charismatic: Despite being one of the weaker Avengers, and one of the least intelligent Avengers, Steve has a charisma that makes him likeable. People will follow him into battle, and it's why he's the (sort of) defacto leader of the group. Honest: Though Steve isn't blunt, and has a tendency to sugarcoat things, or outright hold his tongue if he feels his opinion may negatively impact someone, he isn't one for lying. He will express how he feels without any ulterior motive or hint of deception. Loyal: Steve makes for a damn good friend. Willful: It's hard to keep Steve down in a fight. WEAKNESSES: Naïve: Steve will see the good in most people, even if they have no desire to be saved. If someone petitioned him for a second chance, and claimed that they regretted their actions and wanted to change, Steve would likely show them mercy, and urge others to do the same. Out of Touch: Though he's slowly coming to grips with the technology and culture of the modern world, he is still very much a fish out of water. Anything beyond basic functions of most modern days machines (especially electronics) baffle or confuse him. Videogames defeat him. And most modern music (with some exceptions), he finds absolutely horrendous--especially what Tony listens to. He thought "lolcatz" was run by a bunch of immigrants with rusty English. Rave culture is something that mystifies him, goth people remind him of Halloween Costumes, and drag queens? He's amazed that such a controversial subculture has not only become accepted, but is considered a high form of entertainment, if that RuPaul show is anything to go by. Loyal to a Fault: Steve does not believe in giving up on his friends. It takes a lot to alienate him, or make his dislike those that he once admired. He will almost always see them for the person he came to be friends with, and will try his hardest to steer them back towards the right path. They can betray his trust and take violent action against him again and again, and Steve will still try and save them. There may be a limit to his loyalty, particularly if his other loved ones were targeted, but so far this has yet to come up. Dogged Determination: "Quit" is an ugly word to Steve. His determination is all but legendary. When he was a man of only ninety pounds he kept getting back up, no matter how outclassed or outnumbered he was in a fight. This has not changed since the success of the super serum. The only way to take him down in a fight is to render him unconscious, or kill him. Terrible Liar: Steve is quite possibly the worst liar known to man. His inflections become unbelievable, his eyes wander, his voice cracks, his throat becomes dry, and he'll sweat. Even in poker, where he need not say anything at all, and simply keep a straight face, he'll have obvious tells. Many refuse to play with him anymore because they feel bad for robbing him of his money so consistently. Awkward: He's never been good with the fairer sex. It doesn't matter that he's now six-foot-two, muscled and attractive, or that he's technically had a (sorta) girlfriend. He is awful with women if he's put in an even remotely romantic situation, and is virtually incapable of responding to flirtations. He's gotten slightly better with Natasha's assistance, and has gone from god-awful to terrible. GOALS: 1) End HYDRA. 2) Put a stop to Thanos. 3) 4) Fully master the technology of the modern age. FEARS: Failing - Above all else, Steve fears failing. Failing his people, failing SHIELD, failing the Avengers and his friends. He is not in the habit of disappointing people, and doesn't want to start. OVERALL PERSONALITY: It would be unfair to suggest that Steve Rogers was a product of his time. Indeed, many who have studied the First Avenger would disagree. He was not a normal specimen of his era. Rather, he is a reflection of the ideals of the era, and one of a small percentage who managed to live up to them through and through. In his years since his revival, Steve has been both criticized and admired for his outdated and highly idealized views. His views on fairness, honor, justice, honesty, privacy and acceptance. He is a man that believes in leading by example, as a man, as a society, and as a country. He will not abide by hypocritical action, and he does not believe in letting fear dictate policy. No matter what, he feels that anything he is a part of should take the higher road, no matter how difficult it makes it, else he will not stay a part of the organization for long. Though he is resolute in his convictions, he is rarely aggressive with his opinions. He will say his piece when he feels he must, or when he is asked, but he will not expect others to adhere to his values if they are acting on their own. As was idealized at the time he was raised, values and beliefs are very personal and private things, and though he may be disappointed in the actions another takes, he will not dictate them. Above all else, Steve does not believe in giving up, on his values or those that have need of him. He will see the good in others even when no one else can, and try his damnedest to redeem them. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: BIRTHPLACE: Brooklyn, New York, New York, USA. RESIDENCE: A nice, corner apartment in Queens, New York that SHIELD picks up the tab on. PARENTS: Deceased. SIBLINGS: Nope. IMPORTANT RELATIVES: Nope. Until he knows Bucky's alive. IMPORTANT PERSON: OVERALL HISTORY: Steve was born to two poor, Irish immigrants in Brooklyn, New York, New York. His father, Joseph, died during the first World War, before Steve even had an opportunity to know him. Nonetheless, the first few years of Steve's childhood was relatively happy. He loved his mother immensely and she him, and she somehow made it worked despite being the sole income of the family. What little time she had off from her duties as a nurse she spent with him, staving off exhaustion from sometimes working double and even triple shifts. Unfortunately, Sarah's work put her in contact with tuberculosis, which she contracted. Treatment was given, but it was not long before she was consumed. Steve was devastated, and orphaned. With no relatives to care for him, Steve was moved to a state-run orphanage in Hell's Kitchen. It was far from a happy place, but Steve persevered. One day, at the age of thirteen, Steve was being bullied but kept standing back up when he was knocked down. This inspired the nearby James Buchannan Barnes to intervene on his behalf, and fight the bullies. The two became fast friends, and within the matter of a few months, James' parents adopted Steve. The two spent the rest of their childhood together, with Bucky coming to Steve's rescue whenever Steve was overwhelmed. When Pearl Harbor happened, both boys were eager to sign up with the Army. In excellent physical condition, and somewhat trained as a boxer, James was quickly picked up. Steve, however, was not. His lithe frame and overwhelming list of health problems prevented him from joining, as he was labeled 4F. Despite this, Steve kept trying, even going out of town and out of the state in an attempt to serve his country. Before Bucky was to be dispatched, he and Steve attended the World Fair. It was there that their conversation about Steve wanting to help his country was overheard by Abraham Erskine, a scientist leading the operation of "Project: Rebirth". He deeply admired Steve's spirit despite his frame, and signed him up to the Project. Rogers was then given regulatory military training. He proved tenacious and smart, and though he frequently fell behind in tests of strength and endurance, he excelled in bravery. When a dud grenade was tossed into the camp, it was the petite Rogers who fell onto the grenade, thinking that his sacrifice would have saved those at the camp. It was this display of bravery that made Rogers selected for Project: Rebirth. The Project was designed to create an artificially enhanced soldier. Steve underwent the experiment, and was the sole success of the operation, as a HYDRA spy killed Erskine. Despite proving himself numerous times, and being the living super-soldier, Steve was denied the right to serve in the military. Instead, he was used as a propaganda tool for the sale of war bonds, and traveled the country and even overseas for the troops as "Captain America". It was while he was overseas in Italy that he learned of the disappearance of Bucky's unit. Refusing to believe that Bucky was dead, Steve was flown behind enemy lines and dropped at one HYDRA base to mount a solo rescue unit. It was there that he encountered Johann Schmidt--the Red Skull--and the failed super soldier. Schmidt managed to escape, but Steve successfully rescued Bucky and his unit. Now knowing the intimate details of HYDRA, Steve and the "Howling Commandoes" went on the offensive against HYDRA, demolishing bases as they worked their way toward Johann Schmidt. Base after base was destroyed, enemy units were demolished, and Schmidt's contempt for Rogers grew. Going to the final base in the Alps, Bucky and Steve boarded a HYDRA train. Filled with enemy combatants, a massive battle ensued, one which tore apart the side of the train. Before the battle could be one, Bucky fell from the train into an icy canyon below. Steve was devastated, and channeled his grief into his battle with Schmidt. Schmidt had built a unique jet, designed for the purpose of obliterating the United States and the Allied Forces. Powered by the Tesseract, it's destructive capabilities would see Schmidt's goal realized. The two engaged in intense battle, before Schmidt took hold of the Tesseract, and then phased from existence. The jet still on its course, Steve took the mantle and manually piloted it into the Antarctic, to prevent it from harming anyone. It was in the Antarctic that Steve remained frozen for nearly seventy years before finally being dug out and thawed. He was promptly recruited by the Avengers Initiative, and played a critical role in the battle of New York against Loki and the Chitauri Invaders. Since then, Steve's been content to help SHIELD any way he can, and is working hard at being less of a tech noob. HISTORY:
All of Steve's history leading up to his crash in the ice is identical. It is from there that things significantly diverge.
With Bucky having been recovered over a decade earlier, he and Namor took to combing the Antarctic and reinvigorating the search for the disappeared Captain America. In 2001, the pair was successful and pulled Steve from the ice, eventually reviving him. Though it took some time of Steve to readjust to reality, the familiar faces helped, and after a crash-course through history and technology, Steve returned to the Shadow Province and New England a few months later.
There he once again began to work for the government, but found things... changed. The culture he knew and loved was no more, and the Shadow Province's method of dealing with things did not sit well with the super soldier. Abiding them for as long as he could, he led the Avengers Initiative and worked as an Agent of SHIELD.
This brief stint was prolonged by troubles with Bucky's identity. Though Fury offered to help shield Bucky from public backlash once his identity as the Winter Soldier was revealed, it came with another two years as Captain America, agent of SHIELD and leader of the Avengers.
In '05, Steve exited the Avengers and Shadow Province and even retired as Captain America. He did not feel that he represented the countries, nor did he wanted to tow the Shadow Province line. Instead he became Nomad and in late '05 worked to form a new team of vigilantes that would serve as guardians and intervene wherever necessary, free of larger political agenda.
This team became known as the Defenders, and has been in operation ever since.
