Things were off to a fantastic start. Alice finally had a lunch date set with her mom, so she was having to deal with that issue finally. However, as Bridget Jones’ had put it; ‘when one area of your life seems to be going well, it seems to fall that another part falls apart dramatically’. Or something like that. It was also why she was pronouncing Egyptia in her head as ‘Egypt-chya’ and that didn’t seem at all to be the way it was pronounced. Then again, it didn’t appear as if any of the news channels had any idea on how to pronounce it in the first place.
Liberterrum….aka the United States in this universe considering that the USA didn’t even exist in this world. It was too weird to get used to; to know that almost everything you’d grown up knowing or relying on was gone, snap, just like that. The Southern united states and their history/themes? Gone. Florida Man? No longer existed. Disney? Well, at least that seemed to remain the same. This world was too topsy turvy for her but at least she wasn’t alone. Of course, apparently in this world, Tony saw nothing wrong with dating Kayley. Kayley. Of all the fucking people her age, he had to go and choose her? What was previous dimension Tony thinking!? For Christ’s sake, they were about the same age, talk about gross.
Of course, Tony being Tony was going to fly off and help them out, because Tony could never give up the responsibility of being a hero to others. It was admirable at times, but she could see why Pepper and him didn’t last. Shame; Pepper had been good for him, she really had. Still, she was here to see him off….and who just happened to be in the room but Kayley.
Ugh. She was possibly the worst person Alice had ever met in her life and she had no idea if this Kayley was the Kayley she hated….or a different Kayley. Who she would probably dislike because no twenty two year old girl thought her Dad was sexy…..at least not without thinking about the big price tag attached to thinking he was sexy and actually having sex with him.
Ew, better not think about that either. Would it be rude to ignore Kayley? Probably, but Alice didn’t know if being rude was in character for her in this universe. So she’d better at least make small talk.
“Hi.” Said in that tone that reflected that you were being polite but you didn’t really wish to talk and therefore didn’t care about what the other person had to say.
Biting her nails, Kayley wondered why everything was rapidly going downhill in her life. Between warring criminal factions trying to make her value theirs, and Tony Stark being colder to her than the arctic circle, things in her life had just gone from bad, to worse, to downright terrible. And the only reason she was keeping a straight face and not breaking down was because she had to stay confident and just find a way out of the mess she had been thrown into.
Today had been much of the same, Tony avoiding her with a wide berth and barely letting her get a word in when he informed everyone he was off to Liberterram to quell whatever shitstorm Steve Rogers and co. had whipped up on that side of the world. A curt ‘goodbye’ had been all Kayley got from Tony, before he had launched himself into the air.
And now, Kayley had to keep her mind from pacing around because before she knew it the phone would ring with someone wanting an update on the whole situation, because whatever Tony did, ‘they’ wanted to know exactly why he did it and what they could gain out of it. And the more they called, the more she wanted to tell them all to just ‘shove it’, but she knew as well as any that they weren’t people to anger.
Turning her head, Kayley looked at the only voice in the room, noticing it was Tony’s daughter, Alice. Who was almost the same age as she was.
’Oh, hey Alice…‘ she chimed lightly, her eyes darting back to the giant window looking off into the east, as if she had super-sight or some crazy things like that.
Shaking her head with a sigh, she had to get her mind onto something else right now. ’Did you come to say goodbye to Tony too?‘ she queried.
Kayley had never really hung out with Alice, part of her could feel the tension coming from her every time they shared the same room, and the awkwardness of someone almost the same age as her dating Tony Stark was not lost on Kayley. But even looking past those issues, they ran with different people and lived in different worlds, the only thing they had in common was Tony Stark.
’I’m afraid you’ve just missed him.‘ Kayley mentioned with a strained smile, keeping up appearances for the sake of it.

Alice was not one for small talk, and could tell that Kayley looked strained. But this Kayley wasn’t the same sort of Kayley she’d met before; someone who thought it was ‘cool’ to behave stupidly, which was fine with Alice, if Kayley hadn’t been messing with everyone else’s stuff to the point of potentially getting them fired from their jobs. This Kayley was different. Of course, Alice still didn’t like her.
She was definitely a gold-digger, that was for sure. Something was up, though. A girl her age shouldn’t be interested in Toyn beyond his wealth; how could they relate. Then again, it was Tony. He was infamous for liking any legal aged attractive woman. However, according to what she’d found out, He’d been dating Kayley for far longer than normal, and that was the fact that stood out.
Oh, right she should probably respond. “Yeah…” Alice said in response. “I bet.” She muttered off to the side. On the bright side, she now could hold Tony to what she’d told him back home; she was free to date whoever she wanted now, no matter their age, since he was dating...or dated, Kayley. “That’s too bad.” Alice added, as their agonizing small talk continued. But Kayley seemed out of sorts.
“Something bothering you?” Alice asked her, sounding as polite as possible. She might not be a superhero or anything like that, but reading people? That was something she was good at. Asking Kayley directly ‘what’s going on’ wouldn’t work. Nor would telling Kayley ‘I know you’re a gold-digging whore, give up. You’re not getting a cent.’ go anywhere but violent. Cathartic violence, but it wasn’t going to give her a solution to her problem.
Namely, what Kayley’s agenda was. If she was an anomaly in Tony’s string of relationships, that’d be one thing. But even without it being the Tony she knew at first, something just didn’t add up here. Why were they still together? What charms did Kayley of all people (Alice couldn’t imagine she’d changed much) possess? If there wasn’t the typical ‘buy me presents’ mentality going on, what did Kayley have to gain by being with Tony?
Plus thinking that something was afoot, even if it wasn’t, helped keep Alice focused on not thinking horrible thoughts over and over again about what could happen over there.
Trying to break into a smile, Kayley could notice how much of a hard time both of them were having in trying to hold a conversation with each other. The only thing linking them was Tony, and that was apparently a contentious issue on the part of some people, people who simply saw Kayley as just another pretty face latching onto a big wad of cash, hoping it trickled down the grapevine.
It really would’ve been very simply if that had been true, but nothing in her life was truly simple. She had stopped hoping that her life would be uncomplicated and easy. To people like Alice, she really was just a leech, and that was pretty much the truth too. But the true motives behind her relation with Tony was a mystery to the masses.
The sins of the father had been thrust upon Kayley, ‘simple solutions’ had been a complete fabrication of delusional people wanting to use her as a means to acquire more power than any of them deserved. Effectively pimped out by a higher power to exploit the one true weakness of Tony Stark, a pretty face with a brain attached to it. That’s all there was to it, she was more than the pretty face but ultimately she didn’t even control her own destiny, forced to perpetuate a charade that hurt someone she didn’t wish to hurt.
Pulling herself out of her idle ponderings once more, she glanced back at Alice. ’Yeah, there is. It’s just stupid stuff, really…‘ she answered with a light sigh, wistfully looking out of the window, jealous at everyone’s ignorance. ’…Nothing to be concerned about, though. Lord knows there are bigger things to worry about right now.‘ she deflected with a short stifled laugh, grabbing the phone from her pocket and reading the ever returning demand for reports and sit-rep’s on Tony.
’I’d love to continue talking…‘ she lied, tapping a few things on her phone. ’But well, even today my job is calling for me to jump through hoops.‘ Kayley told, not even lying about it.
’We could catch up later though, if you’d like?‘ she asked as an empty courtesy.

Alice just didn’t like her, even if she wasn’t exactly the Kayley she remembered. Then again, she had never liked the other girl very much, and it was obvious to anyone who looked between the pair of them. Icy polite words that made it very clear they were on opposite sides were exchanged, and it was starting to make Alice bristle. She did not like having to play a game of manners with people she didn’t like.
She’d rather they know it straight up so she didn’t have to endure their presence. “Yeah, there are.” Alice said, with another false grin, She was trusting her gut on this one, and that meant it would be time to look into whatever Kayley was doing. Tony would not want to hear what she was going to tell him about it either.
Not because she’d be wrong, but because she’d imply that twenty year olds really didn’t want to be with him because of anything more than the fact that he was Tony Stark. Then again, maybe that’s what he wanted? Who could say. Either way, the fact was that most people had an agenda and whether he liked it or not, it was the truth. “That’s too bad.” Alice said, with another sort of grimace.
At Kayely’s next offer, Alice just gave up and gave her a smile without mirth. “You and I both know that’s not going to happen.” Alice said, as it was the plain and simple truth of it. “Ciao.” Alice added, before walking out of the room. She really didn’t need to spend extra time around Kayley, who was busy anyway. She’d initially come to see Tony off, and he’d already disappeared.
