Name: Anna Marie D'Ancanto Age: 26 Occupation: X-Men Member Group: Mutant Powers & Abilities: Absorption of powers, memories, and abilities through the touch of skin-on-skin contact. Playby: Anna Paquin |
Anna Marie was born in Meridian, Mississippi to Owen and Priscilla D'Ancanto. Her beginning years were easy, though they tended to be rather boring. For a young girl with a thirst for more that would end up being a problem. Even when she was a child, she would dream of the day she would have an adventure. She planned on someday travelling to France and learning more about their culture. She was already learning French from a young age because of the French background of her area. When she entered high school, her dreams became even more intense. Though she didn't fight with her parents on a daily basis, they still had their normal disagreements. One day, she told herself, she would go away and live out a grand adventure in France, or Spain, or anywhere really. Because the sky is the limit, she didn't have to tie herself down to just one place. She could backpack across countries and learn new cultures. She could learn different languages and speak to many unique human beings. There was no limit to her life! Life does have a way to turn around and bite you in the ass, however. When she was eighteen, her powers began to come forth. She was in her room with her boyfriend of the time-- Cody Robbins-- and they were discussing how they would go on an adventure after college. Anna was laughing, and suddenly she leaned forward to kiss her boyfriend. There was no thought behind it. She thought it would be harmless, a small thing. When her lips met his, though, a nightmare unfolded. Much to her horror, something strange began to take place. Though she didn’t know it at the time, she was sucking the life energy from her boyfriend and draining him, killing him. When she was able to pull away from him, she began to scream because it appeared as if he could be dead. Come to find out that he wasn’t dead, but in a coma; a coma that would last his entire living life. Guilt overtook her and it wasn’t long before she ran away from home. It was when she ran away from home and ended up in a bar, that she found Wolverine. While she was hiding out there, she witnessed his powers after he fought in a cage match. Thinking he could help her, she hid in his trailer but she was soon found out. They argued, and Wolverine left her on the side of the road. It was during that few moments before he came back that she felt real, stark panic. She had no idea what she would do, where she would go. She had no one to turn to at this point. Her powers were too dangerous, which meant that she couldn’t trust anyone else without their own power to understand her or want to accept her into their life. She didn’t have to freak out long though. Wolverine came back and told her to get back in, and they drove off together. Quickly, they bonded and Anna began to think that maybe things would be okay. It wasn’t too long after they began talking with each other that Sabertooth caused the car to crash. Life decided to again lend a helping hand, and Cyclops and Storm showed up to save them. They were then taken to X-Mansion. This would end up being the best thing to happen to Rogue in her entire life. It was here that she got her alias and was enrolled in a school that could help her with her powers. Though there weren’t anyone else who seemed to have her powers, she still felt good that there were at least others who wouldn’t hate her because she was different. Everyone was different; they couldn’t fear those who were different, because that would be hypocritical. These days were some of the best of her life. She met others who were like her and who didn't fear her. She fit in, and she began to learn new things about the world around her. She stopped dreaming of adventures and started thinking about her future instead, the things she could do to help the world around her. Of course, her powers were coveted by Magneto and eventually the plan to force her from the school was set into motion. It was after Wolverine had stabbed her in a fit of panic induced from jolting awake from a nightmare, and she reached out to touch his face to sap his healing powers, that she feared he hated her. Mystique-- disguised as Iceman-- convinced her no one wanted her around and she was better off leaving. After she did leave, she was captured and Magneto planned on using her in his machine. It was when this almost came to fruition that she got the two white streaks of hair at the front of her head. She was saved, of course. It always seemed that that would be a normal occurrence for her: either saving others, or being saved herself. She was taken back to the school, where she learned that she really was accepted and welcomed warmly. Her life became a blur of adventures and excitement, but panic and cloying fear were still ever present. Normal human beings didn't accept the existence of mutants and they didn't want them to live. A cure was created later on down the line, and though it was hard, Rogue made the ultimate decision of not taking it. She debated with herself for days on end, trying to weigh the pros and cons. If she did take the cure and her powers vanished, her life would be so much easier. But if she didn't take the cure, she could help to save so many lives. She supposed that the saying about taking the road less traveled has some merit to it. Just because everyone else was doing it, didn't mean that Rogue herself should do it either. She wanted to believe she had these powers for a reason. She still didn't know what that reason was yet, and therefore refused to take the cure. She works to be a good person and to help those around her. She wants to learn how to control her powers so that she could better use them for the greater good. |
