El has been with the site for nearly two years now and has continued to prove her value. Currently, she is heading up our site event, Battle for Liberterram, on top of keeping up with her own personal plots.
Lux's posts are all wonderful to read. She has done a wonderful job of grasping the new universe and incorporating Peggy into it.
It's good to see Spidey back on the site. Watching him deal with the universe shift in his own snarky way has been nothing short of entertaining.
Eight O'Clock on the Dot!
El and Lux are making magic in this thread. Straight up fireworks, and the way they've played with drawing out the reveal is top class.
Heterosexual, although asexual for the safety of others
Former nuclear physicist, foremost authority on Gamma Radiation. Consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark Industries as necessary. In his spare time, he develops his own scientific technology in a private, secluded laboratory in Nova Scotia.
Powers & Abilities:
[Not Enraged]: Brilliant mind. [Enraged]: Near limitless strength, stamina, and invulnerability that increases with his anger.
Solitude - Bruce prefers solitude and quiet space and reflection because it is there that it is easiest to keep the monster at bay.
Science - Science is Banner's passion, as it has been since he was a child. With it he can create technology that benefits the human race, and potentially could cure him from his accident.
Shawarma - Despite the unorthodox way in which he was introduced to the Arabic staple (right after The Battle of Manhattan at Tony Stark's insistence), Dr. Banner had become a rabid fan of the dish. On average, he will eat it 1-2 times a week now...minimum.
Sarcasm - While Bruce is not formally trained in any other language besides English...Dr. Banner has always been fluent in sarcasm. His slip around comments, even if they are only to himself, are a constant source of amusement. Plus, it helps to have two different sides to a conversation with yourself when you spend 80% of your life on your own.
Absolute Power - Despite all the problems that come associated with the Hulk, the complete and absolute power it provides Bruce Banner can be quite enticing. When he is the monster, Bruce is effectively invincible, ultra powerful, and scary as hell...honestly, what's not to like?
Science - While Banner enjoys doing science, it truly is a love/hate relationship. While science can provide so many answers, the answer to his one question seems to continually elude him. This is unbelievably frustrating, which only makes other issues more difficult to control.
Separation - As humans are naturally social creatures, Bruce naturally dislikes having to isolate himself for the majority of his time. While he does understand and accept it is for everyone's protections, he still doesn't have to like it.
Constant anger - Just like he told the other Avengers about his secret to keeping it under control, the constant anger that plagues his mind is a gateway to the monster within. From it, Bruce can feel the true hatred and rage the Hulk feels, including his attempts to use the anger to break free and rampage.
Public Perception - Probably the thing that Bruce dislikes the most is the public perception of him. Much like the quandry of the mutants from Xavier's school, Banner knows the powerful pain it can be to be ostracized for things and abilities beyond your control.
Always having to buy new pants - Whenever Bruce turns in to The Hulk, unless he prepares for the transformation, the clothing he wears are shredded and destroyed. When he returns to human form Bruce is completely naked. This is both a strain on his finances and his patience...which only grows his irritation and anger. This can create a whole new problem altogether.
Brilliant Mind - Bruce Banner has a mind in line with Richard Reid, Tony Stark, and Victor von Doom, with extensive knowledge in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Physiology, and Nuclear Physics. Some of his personal inventions have made great strides towards defense and repulsion of entities like himself. His analytical and logical skills are unmatched.
Control Exercises - Through his time of hiding in South America and Asia, Bruce learned various relaxation and mental control techniques from the various cultures and religious groups from the indigenous peoples. The rigorous training enables Bruce to control his rage better than ever before.
Unimaginable Power - As The Hulk, his strength and endurance is completely over-powering. Lifting, throwing, and destroying objects are a specialty. However, don't ask Hulk to open a stuck jar if you ever wish to see the contents of said jar.
Fractured Psyche - Due to the mental and physical abuse that he suffered at the hands of his father, Bruce's emotional stability was always on a tilted level without control. It is often conjectured that such abuse and the fear and anger that developed from it helped create the rage monster that The Hulk has become.
Emotionally Vulnerable - The sheer nature of his constantly angered state makes Bruce Banner especially susceptible to losing control from shocking or charged events. In other words, don't sneak up on him...he may turn and leave you as a puddle on the ground.
Use it or Lose it - As the Hulk, he needs to keep his rage going, or its going to fizzle and turn him back in to Bruce Banner. Just as Bruce needs to control his anger to prevent the release of the Hulk, the Hulk needs to enflame his rage to keep from reverting to Bruce Banner. Especially in times of fighting this is crucial as Bruce Banner, nuclear physicist is not the man to stand his ground.
Cure/Harness the monster within - One of Bruce's ultimate goals is to truly contain the Hulk by any means possible...even if that means losing him. While he feels that the loss of the Hulk would be traumatic, he knows that it would better the world as no other invention could.
Meaningfully contribute to the world - Assuming that the Hulk forever reigns within his mind, Bruce ultimately wishes to create things that work to protect and benefit the world. His opinion is that if Tony Stark can do it...so can he.
Losing control. Bruce remembers all too well the monster he can become and the devastation and death that the monster can bring. Even in moments where the monster is used for good, the terrifying destruction at his fists is a constant reminder that even with the best intentions, absolute power is always a last resort.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: In general, Bruce Banner is a mild-mannered, quiet and polite man. When he speaks, Bruce usually speaks in soft, calming tones, a complete opposite to his alter ego. The majority of his jokes and sarcastic quips are made at himself or his particular predicament. While he is brutally aware of the Hulk, he doesn't offer many apologies for the chaos and destruction it causes. Understanding that there is no stopping the Hulk is truly the greatest knowledge one can possess, and Bruce is easily the first person to offer that knowledge up.
Dr. Banner typically spends the majority of his time in his private laboratory in Nova Scotia.
Bruce's father, Brian Banner, was a renowned physicist who hated him, the man's alcoholism and affection from his wife to their son only fueling his rage. Brian was physically abusive to his wife, Rebecca. The fear, anger and psychological trauma of such incidents leading to the problems related to The Hulk. In the end, Brian turned his anger and abuse on Bruce. When Rebecca intervened, Brian killed her for it. After being acquitted for lack of evidence, Brian was finally imprisoned after drunkenly boasting about beating Bruce. He currently resides in a mental institution.
Elizabeth Ross. While she and Bruce are no longer together, she still remains a reminder that even with the monster, he can still be loved.
Bruce Banner was born a normal child in Ohio to Brian and Rebecca Banner. His father, a nuclear physicist himself, got Bruce in to the sciences in school, where he quickly learned that Bruce's mind was extraordinary. Being an only child, Bruce's mother doted on him, which quickly earned his father ire when Brian turned to the bottle. Alcohol and a selfless act ended his mother's life at his father's hand, a crime for which Brian Banner was never convicted. It was then that Bruce had to live with his father's abuse and the development of true fear, anger, and the fear of anger.
After his father was incarcerated for abusing him, Bruce set out on his own academic journey. Earning a Ph.D in Nuclear Physics whilst delving in to many other areas of study simply to keep his mind active and entertained. Mastering an academic field came easily to Banner, but his specialty was in nuclear physics, specifically gamma radiation and its uses. It was this course of study that would ultimately seal Bruce's fate and his place in history.
During an experiment using a gamma radiation device, namely a bomb, an accident occurred that put Bruce directly in the field of fire for the device. By all accounts of modern science, it should have destroyed the man. instead, a hulking green monstrosity stood in Banner's place. What is now known as the Hulk was born. The newly created creature destroyed the lab where Banner was working and escaped, leading to a manhunt across multiple continents.
While abroad, Bruce developed working theories while the monster inside of him ran wild. It was unbridled and unforgiving, terrorizing dozens of South American cities and villages. Despite all these things, Banner began using martial arts, breathing and calming techniques like meditation to gain control over his emotions. From these practices, Banner learned that his anger was something that could be controlled and the Hulk was not always going to be a public menace if he could simply keep his anger under control.
Once finding himself in a place to do some good, he was recruited to the Avengers through an intervention with Agent Romanov. Despite the progress made, the incident aboard the Helicarrier proved that even in times of great control, great distress can bring about moments where the monster himself can take over against Bruce's better judgement. This was by far the most important lesson, for while the control can be taught and exercised, the wild animalistic ways of the Hulk could always tear away control if provoked.
After the Battle of Manhattan, Bruce had created himself a moderate laboratory in a secluded area of Nova Scotia. From there, Bruce can not only work on projects of his own, inventions and the like, but it also provides a place where the Hulk can torment the local sheep populace without attracting additional attention.
