PERSONALITY First impressions show Pepper to be serious, focused on business, and incredibly schedule driven. All of which are true. Pepper takes her job very seriously, and is willing to do just about anything within her power to see the job she was assigned to do be completed in an efficient and timely manner. When it comes to people Pepper tries to see the best in everyone. A kind word and a smile never harmed anyone and has the potential of making someone’s day. She’s also discovered that she can get more with honey than with vinegar. Besides, when has it ever hurt anyone to be nice? Pepper is incredibly organized in all aspects of her life. There are always so many minor details that happen each day that being anything other than organized would be chaotic. Even though she tries to plot out every aspect of her day/life Pepper understands that even the best laid plan won’t always follow through. Particularly if the plans pertain Tony in anyway. He’d always been famous for going off book; just look at the press conference where he announced he was Iron Man! Even though she no longer works for him, he still manages to through a kink in her well laid out plans. The Bachelor Degree in Business she received has come quite a bit in handy over the years. It particularly came in handy when she stepped up as CEO of Star Industries for a brief period of time. She also learned quite a bit about business and what works best simply through practical application. Practice really did make perfect; okay, maybe not perfection but it definitely improved efficiency. If you ever need something to get done, but have no idea of how do it, or even where to start Pepper can help you out there. She’s developed quite the network of contacts and if she doesn’t know the answer she probably knew someone who would. HISTORY Pepper was born in New Haven, Connecticut. Her childhood was uneventful with no major life altering events. From a young age she developed freckles and gained the affectionate nickname “Pepper” which has stuck her entire life. Pepper worked hard when it came to education. Her parents had always stated that a good education was essential to a good career and Pepper took that to heart. She worked hard to get good grades in school, graduated in the top ten percent of her class, was accepted into a good university, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. All of which she found to be very satisfying. After graduation Pepper didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life. She accepted a job as secretary at a small company and decided she rather liked administrative work. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that there was no room for promotion so Pepper, not wanting to simply be a secretary forever, found a new job. Eventually she got a job at Stark Industries where she found a job she actually found challenging and intellectually stimulating. At one point a file came across her desk with an accounting error. Pepper quickly corrected the error and sent it back to be approved. She didn’t realize that the error had been made by the CEO of the company, a Mr. Tony Stark. That was the first time Pepper came to his attention and before long she found herself promoted to Executive Assistant. It’s a full time job working this close to Tony. She has to make sure he gets to his appointments, doesn’t wander off, or even cause a large scandal. Granted, it doesn’t always work but he definitely functions better when Pepper is around. Though that is probably really only because she takes care of all the minor details allowing him to focus on other things. Pepper has always prided herself on being level headed and calm in times of struggle. However, sometimes working for Tony can be incredibly stressful and it gets to be too much. For example, the discovery of the Iron Man suit and that Tony was intending to endanger himself made Pepper so sick with worry she quit. She simply couldn’t stay and watch a man she admired and respected intentionally put himself into harm’s way. It didn’t last long though and when Tony approached her about retrieving data from a Stark Computer, she couldn’t say no. Somehow she managed to get the files Tony requested and even managed to learn some disturbing things about Obadiah Stane. Then, just as the files were finishing up, Obadiah approached her. Pepper could have sworn she would have been caught red-handed, but she played it cool and talked her way out of his office. Worried sick, Pepper gathered Agent Coulson (as well as some other Agents) and went to help Tony effectively placing herself in danger. Obadiah, in the Iron Monger suit, decided to go after Pepper knowing Tony cared for her. Tony intercepted him allowing Pepper time to blow the main Arc Reactor (as instructed) in order to defeat Obadiah. Pepper didn’t want to do it. There was the potential of hurting Tony; something she never wanted to happen. Yet, somehow he managed to survive the blast no worse for wear and only battered and bruised. Over the years she has lost count of all the times she has either quit or threatened to quit. It never last long. For some reason she keeps coming back (she blames it on how persuasive Tony can be). Later, Tony discovers that he is slowly being poisoned by the Palladium in the Arc Reactor and he hides it from Pepper. Wanting to make sure the company is taken care of Tony appoints her as CEO of Stark Industries. Pepper, completely unaware of what’s going on, accepted the position even though she is surprised by the turn of events. Tony continues to deteriorate. His behavior became more erratic and reckless than usual and their relation started to fall apart. She is not sure as to what has been causing the change, but doesn’t like it. To hide her sadness and disappointment, she acts aloof and cold. Their every encounter is strictly professional with none of the teasing and warmth they had before. She even starts to wonder if she had ever meant anything. Doing her duty as CEO of Stark Industries Pepper attends an EXPO where Justin Hammer was showcasing his drones. She certainly didn’t expect to learn Justin Hammer had been aiding the criminal Ivan Vanko and had Hammer arrested. However she wasn’t out danger yet. Leaving the EXPO she managed to step into the battle between Tony as Iron Man and Ivan Vanko, once again placing herself in danger. Both Pepper and Tony came out of the encounter alive (really, what more could they ask for) and things made a turn for the better. The few years Pepper dated Tony were some of the greatest of her life. Oh sure they argued and got on each other nerves but they were happy. Then everything changed. Happy was critically injured causing Tony to not only issue a threat to the terrorist who had harmed their friend, but also give him their address!! Oooh Pepper was not amused. Sure enough the Mandarin could not resist the temptation of going after the famous Iron Man and attacked the house. Thanks to the help of Tony, and his newest suit, she was able to make it out of the collapsing house with little damage. She had expected to regroup with Tony and discuss their next plan of action (like if he could please stop engaging in activities that destroy his properties! Oh, and what they would do about the Mandarin) but he was nowhere to be found. In fact, much to her annoyance and worry, he pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth. While she understood his reasoning, a terrorist was trying to kill him after all, she had kind of thought they would deal with this together. Instead she continued to run Stark Industries as always and began to run interference for Tony. Figuring it would be best if no one realized he was missing, she did her hardest to keep that under wraps while not divulging any other information anyone might be fishing for. Despite her efforts, the wrong people knew very well that Tony had gone off on his own, and they wanted to find him. Knowing he would come running once he realized his girlfriend was in trouble, Pepper was kidnapped. And as an added treat, she was put in the Extremis program. Her days in Killian's tender mercies were a blurred together in one hazy, painful fog as her body worked to resist the Extremis. She managed to survive the procedure, which was an excellent thing, as she during the fight between Killian and Tony she fell off a rig from a high enough height that there should have no chance for survival. As the fight raged on, she wound up killing Killian (an act that still gives her nightmares to this day) with the help of Tony’s suit. Now that both of them were no safe Pepper figured they would go back to leading their lives as normal. Well just as normal as dating Tony Stark could be. Things seemed to be looking up. Tony had destroyed all of his suits as a statement regarding his feelings towards Pepper, they managed to find someone who could perform a reversal of procedure that had been done to Pepper, and Tony had even removed his arc reactor. The future seemed bright. But it wasn’t to last. Tony, for some crazy reason only he really understood, decided that after all they had been through, all the years of working together, their joys, their sorrows, he was done. After he called their relationship off, Pepper promptly resigned as CEO, signing the company back over to Tony, and sought out new employment. Now days she is working for a different technology company and because fate has a strange sense of humor, she has found that she often gets to work as a liaison between her new place of employment and her previous one. Still, she goes on as she always has; doing her best to get the job done, no matter how awkward the circumstances might be. |
