El has been with the site for nearly two years now and has continued to prove her value. Currently, she is heading up our site event, Battle for Liberterram, on top of keeping up with her own personal plots.
Lux's posts are all wonderful to read. She has done a wonderful job of grasping the new universe and incorporating Peggy into it.
It's good to see Spidey back on the site. Watching him deal with the universe shift in his own snarky way has been nothing short of entertaining.
Eight O'Clock on the Dot!
El and Lux are making magic in this thread. Straight up fireworks, and the way they've played with drawing out the reveal is top class.
Praying – Kurt can often be found faithfully praying with the rosary clenched in his fingers or reading from the holy bible. During times of distress or when he is lonely, he can be found doing either of two things because it provides him with the comfort and solace he needs.
Church – The church is his sanctuary. When he is isolated from the entire world, the church is the only place where he could call home. It is his place of safety and peace from the outside world.
Simplicity - Kurt is used to living a simple life without any materialistic things. Since he lived in a monastery for several years, he is used to taking pleasure at the small things in life rather than the expensive, impersonal things.
Performing tricks – As a former circus performer, Kurt can't help but be a bit of a show-off if someone were to ask him to perform tricks for them. Whether it's performing acrobatic tricks or hanging by his tail, he would love to impress people with his incredible feats. However, he is not by any means full of himself. For those who are not interested, he will remain reserved until he perceives interest from someone who wants to know more about his past performances.
Spying on people – Although he hides from people to prevent any conflict from arising, Kurt loves to watch people from afar. Although it may appear like it, he does not mean to do so in a creepy way; it is just a custom of his to be drawn to groups of people because he always grew up around his friendly circus people and always saw an audience before him from his days in the circus. He loves watching their friendly interactions with the longing to appear normal just so that he could be among them instead of feeling ostracized.
Listening to people - As mentioned above, Kurt is drawn to people. Because he was an outcast for a long time after his life in the circus, he does not get to have conversations with many people. So, when he's able to have opportunities to talk to people, he loves listening to them and offering comforting advice if they need it.
Acceptance / Being part of a group - Because of the two reasons mentioned above, Kurt would love nothing more than to be accepted as part of a group.
Open-mindedness – Because he was constantly surrounded by close-minded people, open minded people surprise him! They are the rare glimpses of life that remind him that there is a purpose for having faith that things would get better.
Close-mindedness - Bigoted people who cannot stand people who are different from them because of ignorance and hate. It is what drives Kurt into isolation in order to maintain the peace.
Being made fun of - Having been made fun of nearly his entire life does not mean that Kurt is used to being made fun of. In fact, it's one of the reasons why he has such insecurities about his appearance.
Being isolated or ostracized - Even worse than being made fun of is not belonging to anyone. Isolation is different from being alone because when you are isolated from the world, you don't choose to be alone, you're forced to. This is what causes him to intensely long to be accepted.
Corrupt religious people - There are bad people in every group that you can think of, even in religion. Kurt disapproves of corrupt people who give a bad reputation to the religion. He hopes that more people of his religion would grow to be as open-minded about different people as he is.
People who have a sense of hatred or hopelessness - Kurt is saddened whenever he hears someone talking about having a hate towards others because the others are ignorant. He wishes to try to make them see things more positively. This is the same for people who have lost hope in something or someone. He tries to console those who have given up to keep trying to have hope that good things will soon happen.
Lying - Kurt is sensitive to people who lie to him. It's hurtful to be lied to because he feels that the person did not trust him well enough to confide with him on the truth. It must also be said that there may be times when Kurt is forced to lie in order to protect someone, but that does not mean he likes doing it often.
Anyone attacking innocent people or the people he cares about - Kurt will never approve of killing innocent people no matter what small crimes they have committed. He is equally defensive against it even if came from someone he cares about. He would try to put a stop to it at all costs.
Anyone getting the wrong impression of him – he tries so hard to be accepted that what he would do to impress someone else may end up giving a bad impression to other people. Example: He tried to impress Rogue with his spying technique on a group of mutants in the movie, but when he got caught by the group, he immediately apologized because he disliked giving them a bad impression that he was snooping on them.
Sarcasm – It is not that Kurt dislikes sarcasm, he just dislikes the fact that he cannot tell the difference between sarcasm and honesty. Because he did not spend enough time around people, especially sarcastic people, Kurt is kind of naïve to sarcasm. Kurt does not particularly like hearing hurtful sarcastic words, but he only hopes that those words are not honest ones. Moreover, Kurt feels that it may take some time to get used to Logan’s sarcasm, but he wants to be as used to it as everyone else seems to be.
Olympic-class acrobat - With his experience as a circus performer combined with the fact that the mutant's physique enhances his flexibility, agility, and balance, it is evident that he is an exceptional acrobat. This gives him the upper-hand during fighting.
Prehensile tail- Nightcrawler's tail is strong enough to support his entire body weight, which also means that he can use his tail to carry a person of average weight. He can hold himself suspended upside down without discomfort, or use his tail to help pull himself up. In addition, his tail could also serve as an extra 'hand' that could grab onto things when he can't use his hands.
Hand to hand combat - In the circus, Kurt learned fencing for some of his performances, which came with learning hand-to-hand combat. Although he does not carry weapons to fight, he still uses his hand-to-hand combat techniques combined with his teleportation. If he completes a sufficient amount of training on the use of weapons, he may be increasingly handy in battle; but until he sees that the use of weapons is of utmost importance, he is pretty content with hand-to-hand combat alone.
Excellent at hiding - True to his name, the Incredible Nightcrawler is able to bend the light around him in order to render himself nearly invisible as he prowls in the darkness of the shadows.
Teleportation – Kurt is able to teleport from place to place. Inclusively, he can teleport people. At best, he could teleport one person at a time. On occasions, he could teleport more than one person, but it would leave him heavily strained.
Photographic memory - When Kurt wants to teleport somewhere, all he has to do is picture the place he wants to be in his mind, and he will teleport there. In the beginning of the film, the mind-controlled Kurt disguised himself as a human with flesh covered paint to hide his skin and was able to participate in a tour group of the White House. Just by seeing every room in the White House, he was able to picture the rooms in his mind, which enabled him to teleport anywhere within the White House when he made his attack.
Strong in Faith - Sometimes when people have hardened their hearts, a little faith goes a long way to bring hope into their lives, to make people believe in something again. This may be considered a strength for these dark times. Granted, like all people, Kurt has questioned God many times, but that does not stop him from eventually finding out what God's answer would be. He will never force his faith on others if they are not comfortable, however; he only uses it to promote peace.
Relatable - The fact that Kurt has had a ton of problems with acceptance from other people because of his appearance gives him the benefit of earning respect from other people who have gone through similar experiences. For those who have gone through similar experiences, this makes him a lot easier to get along with once they manage to see past his appearance.
Devoted - When Kurt finds peace or acceptance with someone, he is devoted to that person for life. Thus, if he is accepted among a few people, he will do everything he can to help the entire group, even if he does not know them personally.
Honest/Trustworthy - When Kurt compliments someone, it doesn't feel or sound as if he is trying to be flattering on purpose because he is actually sincere in everything he says. He is genuinely honest as an old fashioned gentleman that almost seems non-existent nowadays. Because of his genuine honesty, Kurt is one of the most trustworthy people you can count on. Even though he failed to become a priest long ago, he still carries that quality of supreme confidentiality learned by the monks in his priesthood training if it is requested of him.
Demonic features – Along with his yellow eyes, sharp pointed teeth, and pointed ears, Kurt has dark blue hair and dark blue skin with raised angelic symbols carved across his entire face and body. He only has three digits on each hand (two fingers and one thumb) and three digits on each foot (two in the front and one at his heel). In addition, he has a long, prehensile, arrow shaped tail that is approximately 3 ½ feet long. In an essence, these demonic features may pose as a weakness to Kurt because it prevents many people from trusting him or allowing him to help.
Insecurity for appearance – Because of the reasons above, Kurt has a lot of insecurities for his appearance. He is tired of running away from frightened people that want to kill him, so he tries to hide from them or give them space enough to watch them from a safe distance. This may make him seem almost anti-social, but he actually just wants to be among them; his appearance sadly prevents him from doing so, however. Because of this insecurity, he may have problems with self-doubt at times, but he is always willing to try if someone believes in him. Contrary-wise, if people are trespassing in his sanctuary, then he tries to purposely scare people away from his only sanctuary left in the world because he wants to live in peace.
Awkwardness - Because he does not have much experience in talking with people for a long time, Kurt is the king of awkward when it comes to talking to someone else. In fact, it is usually the other person that initiates the conversation first due to his insecurity issues mentioned above.
Desperate to be accepted – As mentioned previously, he tries so hard to be accepted that he tries to prove himself a lot in order to impress others and feel accepted by them. It is stemmed from his years as a circus performer, always trying to prove to others how great he is despite his appearance with the hope that they would accept him based on his good actions rather than his appearance.
Teleportation limitations – Kurt cannot teleport to a room that he has not been to or seen previously. Doing so would most likely cause him to teleport partially or entirely inside of a solid object such as a wall, which may lead to injury or death. There may be rare occasions when he does make it through the unknown room, but it is a gamble that he would rather not make unless pressed to do so by a life-threatening circumstance. Another limitation is that Kurt cannot teleport more than a 2 mile distance because that distance alone is already exhausting for him. Teleportation causes such a strain on his endurance that he gets tired the greater the distance he teleports. Therefore, if he wants to go far distances, he would have to teleport less than two miles several times so that he would not wear himself out.
Teleportation disadvantages - A disadvantage to his teleportation is that he gives off a “bamf” noise loud enough for people nearby to hear as he disappears within a noticeable black cloud of smoke. In addition, his teleportation gives off a powerful sulfuric smell. This is due to the fact that Kurt teleports unconsciously through a Brimestone dimension similar to hell itself before quickly returning to the dimension of earth with the smoke and smell of the hellish atmosphere he briskly traveled through. [Note: Unbeknownst to him, the reason why he unconsciously travels there is because Kurt is actually linked to the father he never knew, causing him to unconsciously zip through the hellish domain of Azazel, who is similar to a demon]. Therefore, if someone were to hear the “bamf” noise, see a puff of black smoke, or smell the lingering sulfuric stench that his teleportation gives off the moment he appears, they may have a chance to catch him or attack him if they are fast enough - emphasis on being fast enough. Another disadvantage to his teleportation is that the people he teleports with can have a side effect of vomiting or being dizzy because their bodies are weak against the effects of the Brimestone Dimension (see deleted scene).
Easily manipulated – Despite all the terrible memories he’s had from others who took advantage of him, Kurt always tries to see the good in people. So, if a clever stranger were to feign goodness and lie to him, he may fall for their tricks until he realizes that he's been lied to.
Acceptance – Kurt would love more than anything to walk in the streets among the people and no one would be afraid of him. This also goes for people who are similar to him and also long to be accepted.
To bring peace to others in these dark times – Although he craves acceptance, Kurt does not want a world where humans and mutants are segregated and mistreated, he wants for both worlds to treat each other fairly and peacefully. He will always use his faith to try to bring the light to those who have fallen into the darkness of despair or hopelessness.
That he will be weak enough to fall into the hands of evil, becoming the demon everyone sees him as and that his sins will never be forgiven.
Note: If he were to find out who his parents are and that his mother and demonic father are associated with evil, it may be another fear related to the above because it may lead him to question his own purpose.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: The first thing that can be said about Nightcrawler is that he is a man of peace. Peace seems to be the one thing that he tries to establish for himself and for others. He is a quiet, attentive listener to anyone willing to speak with him, although he is not usually the first to initiate conversations with people. The reason why he is so awkward around people is because he hasn't had experience in carrying out conversations with people since his days at the circus; most of his experiences were with people hating him or running in fear because of his appearance. It is because of these experiences that he has a few bouts of self-doubt and has insecurities about his appearance. It keeps him from initiating conversations or joining a conversation in a group, even though he longs to be a part of one more than anything. When he is among people who have accepted him enough to speak to him without fearing him, on the other hand, Kurt slowly gains in confidence and his performer's side shines through without sounding overbearingly arrogant. Kurt loves theatrical performances and showing off spectacular stunts, but he will never show this side of him if people do not appear to be interested.
A source of comforting solace that gives him strength during these moments of insecurity is religion. Kurt turns to religion as a kind of sanctuary for himself; a way to feel that someone out there cares for him and that he is not alone. For Kurt, religion is the symbol of hope and he just wants others who are going through the same experiences as him to find that kind of peace that he feels with religion. There are times, as in any normal person's life, when Kurt questions God during the darkest moments of his life, but Kurt always finds God's answer eventually. It should be known, however, that Kurt does not force other people to convert nor does he think his religion is the best; Because Kurt lived for approval all his life since the circus, he will immediately apologize if he makes anyone uncomfortable with his talk of religion and try to comfort people in a different way.
In terms of romance, Kurt doesn't think that he has much of a chance for that due to his insecurities mentioned above. This is one of the reasons why he wanted to become a priest. Little does he realize, however, that he is actually a secret romantic. His pure heart and honesty make his compliments flow with such a genuine timbre, it makes it pretty tough to declare that he is purposely trying to flatter someone; but that's because he doesn't say things to flatter people, he means every word he says wholeheartedly. Along with his honest words, he is also very affectionate and would be prone to embracing a woman dearly or caressing a woman's cheek if given the chance.
When it comes to conflicts, Kurt tries to get others to view things in a more positive manner. If the person proves to be far too stuck in their ways of thinking, however, Kurt will eventually back off. However, if a person should resort to violence, Kurt's last resort is fighting back. He prefers to talk to people and help them see reason by trying to convince them to do the right thing. Yet, if talking has proven to be effortless and the enemy is hurting innocent people, then Kurt will resort to fighting in order to maintain the peace.
Overall, Kurt just wants peace for himself and peace for others. He wants everyone to see the bright side of things as he does. Idealistic as it may seem, he just wants the world to treat others who are different equally.
Abandoned Cathedral in Boston
Azazel (father); Mystique (mother)
Baron Christian Wagner (Step-father/ Deceased), Margali Szardos (adopted mother), Stefan (Margali's son), Jimaine (Margali's daughter)
No one officially at the moment
Somewhere in the Black Forest of the Bavarian Alps, the sorceress and gypsy queen by the name of Margali Sardos found a dark blue skinned baby boy with intriguing physical characteristics. Nearby, she claimed to have seen his father, Baron Christian Wagner, lying dead on the road beside his wife. At least, that was the story that Margali told the baby boy, Kurt Wagner, when he was old enough. Whether or not Margali knew the true story that Kurt's real mother was Mystique and his real father was Azazel, who brought him to Margali to care for him after Mystique (formerly known as the Baroness Wagner) tossed the baby into what she believed was a watery grave while running from an angry mob, remains a mystery. The most important thing that she told Kurt to remember was that it was fate that brought him to her life and nothing else mattered.
Although Kurt was never legally adopted by anyone, Margali acted as Kurt's unofficial foster mother and brought him to live with her in the small Munich circus, known to them as Der Jahrmarkt, where she worked at as a fortune teller to disguise her sorcery. There, Kurt was raised by all the members of Der Jahrmarkt, who were practically the last people to have prejudices against people who looked different. Kurt knew early on that he was different, but he never felt different among the rest of the circus people that also had special characteristics that made them unique. Because he was treated equally by all the members of the circus, Kurt had a happy childhood in the Munich circus playing as an adventurous swashbuckler with his two closest friends, Stefan and Jimaine, who were Margali's natural children. Kurt was proud of his uniqueness. In fact, his unique physical characteristics along with his ability to stick onto any surface gave him tremendous natural agility, balance, and flexibility that the gypsy fortune teller knew were the perfect skills to become an acrobat.
It was the first acrobatic performance when the adolescent Kurt Wagner became a star known as the Incredible Nightcrawler because of his spectacular feat of climbing impossible obstacles from one part of the circus to another in complete darkness thanks to his night vision. It was only until after the performance, however, when he discovered how much some of the audience feared him when he came up to talk with them. Some believed that he was wearing a disguise to look like a demon, while others feared that he was real. Kurt remained silent on the matter. He pitied the ones that feared him for their lack of seeing past his appearance, but he did not want to cause fear to those who believed he was a regular person by correcting them on their beliefs. It was the first time Kurt did not speak out proudly about his uniqueness. He found that he liked being treated like he was a normal person, so he didn't mind the idea about him being in a disguise. For those who feared him, it made him want to work harder to prove how great he was so that there was nothing to fear in the end. Combining his acrobatic performances with his masterful fencing skills that he learned from a fellow member of the circus, the Incredible Nightcrawler did just that - he gave those people entertaining performances unlike anything they had ever seen before.
When he reached puberty and discovered his teleportation ability, Kurt found himself stuck halfway into a wall because of his experimentation with the teleporting ability. Needless to say, it was a painful experience that he quickly teleported out of; and it taught him never to teleport to unknown places because he could have been completely stuck within the wall and died. Once he realized his limitations to this strange new power, the circus folk and the audience were amazed when he first used it during a performance. Thus, every performance of his became better and better until he became an exceptional aerial artist throughout all the towns that the gypsy circus visited.
Several years later, a Texas millionaire by the name Arnos Jardine bought the gypsy circus and moved the circus' best acts down to his large circus he owned in Florida. Because of conflict of the circus ringer allowing themselves to be bought, the circus group disbanded and his family was separated into different places due to differences on whether or not that was the right thing to do. When Arnos demanded that Kurt be placed in the circus' freak show, where Kurt discovered that the freaks would be drugged up for the audience's pleasure of viewing them up close, the Incredible Nightcrawler managed to escape through teleportation to Winzeldorf, Germany to look for Stefan in order to get his family back together.
Stefan, who was probably devastated that the circus that he grew up with was disbanded and found no purpose in life, had gone mad and had brutally slain several children. When Kurt managed to find him, he tried to talk some sense into him until he found no use except to fight him in order to stop his rampage. In the course of the struggle, Kurt unintentionally broke Stefan's neck. At that very moment, the Winzeldorf villagers discovered Kurt and reasoned that he was the demon who was responsible for the child killings and now appeared to kill anyone who stood in the way. An angry mob was quickly formed and Kurt was chased out of the towns. Only a few would answer to his pleas that he was innocent and needed sanctuary, but they mostly ended up betraying him and giving him away to the ones who were looking for him, causing much of a struggle from Kurt that ended up with a few people dying because they tried to hold him down. This, of course, only fused the people's fears and infuriated the people all the more.
Not wanting to travel to his other family members out of fear that the angry mob would kill them by association, Kurt tried to live his life on his own. Living in constant fear that he would be kidnapped in his sleep along with the haunting nightmares of the deaths he had committed, Kurt spent many sleepless nights in temporary living spaces. With no money and no means of food or water, he was reduced to stealing in order to survive. He was about to steal from a church until a monk spotted him and allowed him to have sanctuary within the monastery he lived in. While some of the monks tried to remain open-minded and accepted Kurt into the monastery, few were wary about his demonic appearance. In trying to prove that he could be just like them in order for them to fully accept him into this new sanctuary that provided shelter and food, Kurt actually found religion as a source of peace that he had been searching for in his life. It was here when he realized all the sins he had recently committed and carved angelic symbols passed on to mankind by the archangel Gabriel onto his flesh after praying for forgiveness for every sin he committed. This was to serve as both a reminder of the sins he committed so that he would not do them again, but also that he must not look to his past sins as the darkness in his life because they have already been forgiven. His strong faith made him realize that he was probably brought here to devote his life entirely to God, so he began a journey to priesthood.
After nearly five years into his extensive priesthood education, there was an angry mob that formed outside of the monastery. It appeared that one of the monks was unable to handle a demon becoming a priest and told the truth in public, which caused a hysteric revolt among the villagers. Once again, Kurt was sent away from his sanctuary, but this time he received help from the monk who first discovered him. With the help of the monk, Kurt hid inside a trading ship that was headed for Boston and left his homeland for a safer place.
Eventually, Kurt found sanctuary in a church thanks to a sickly priest that took him in. In addition to offering food and shelter, the old sickly German priest recognized Kurt's desire to become a priest and taught him how to speak the English language better by translating the scripture from German to English and from English to German in exchange for helping him prepare for mass before each scheduled time. Unfortunately, Kurt was caught by a churchgoer and lots of people screamed in terror, evacuating the area with the fear that it was haunted by the Devil. In his despair that the church was no longer in use, the priest ended up dying from his sickness, leaving Kurt to remain in the sanctuary of the church alone with no one but God for company.
When Kurt heard protests against mutants, he wanted to help build peace among the two sides. Before he knew it, Kurt was knocked out and strapped down to a table, where he was injected with a serum that causes any mutant to be mind controlled. To his horror, he was told by a man later named Stryker to go to the White House and kill the president with a dagger that that had the words "Mutant Freedom Now," which he monstrously obeyed without being able to stop himself. He nearly succeeded in the assassination if it were not for a guard that quickly shot him in the arm the moment he took out the dagger to stab the president he had pinned down onto a table. That shot, though painful, instantly awakened him from his mind-control and he instantly teleported out of the White House. With the police everywhere trying to hunt him down for his crimes, Kurt did not stop teleporting until he reached the abandoned church back in Boston.
Within a short while, two women later introduced as Storm and Jean Grey found him. At first, he thought they were trying to get rid of him so he tried to intimidate him, but when that failed to work, he quickly realized that they were trying to help him out. After they tended to his wound, they brought Kurt with them to a giant plane, where he later met with other mutants. Finding that they were truly good-hearted people, he wanted to help the X-men. With the help of Jean Grey reading his mind, they were able to find out where Stryker's location was and managed to infiltrate the area. With Storm believing in him, Kurt used his teleportation through a room he did not know in order to save Xavier before the building collapsed. Much to their misfortune, Jean Grey stayed behind to help them fully escape.. but whether she survived or not, Kurt was unsure. After making certain that the President would respect mutants alongside of the X-men, Kurt left the X-men to return home to Germany. Being among the X-men reminded him of his band of circus members, so he left to Germany in search of them after so long.
It took nearly a year for Kurt to find most of the disbanded members of the Munich circus, who lived separate lives in different parts of Germany. When he asked about Margali, his foster mother, he discovered that she blamed him for the death of Stefan. After spending a several months searching for her in order to tell her what truly happened so that they could reconcile, he was unable to find her. Feeling unsatisfied that his quest to regroup with the disbanded Munich circus failed because they were all leading separate lives, Kurt found himself missing being part of a group that served a rightful purpose - He missed being a part of the X-men. Returning back to the United States, Kurt decided to join the X-men to help them on their quest to make peace between mutants and humans. He only hoped he was not too late.
HOW DID YOU FIND US:

With a kaki trench coat and yellow sunglasses glistening beneath the blue baseball cap that hid any trace of hair, a 5’10 tall man with what appeared to be scars on his face made his way along the school hallway with his head buried within in the collar of his trench coat, hands deep within its pockets. Though it would normally take days to get used to knowing their way around, he did not appear at all lost in the vast mansion of the Xavier Academy. A gentle voice in his mind guided him to the direction he needed to go as if it were a sign from God because he was soon taken to Professor Xavier’s office, just the person he wanted to see.
“Guten Tag,” The German mutant greeted the man in the wheelchair with a respectful nod and a small smile, knowing Professor Xavier from their last adventure not long ago. Just when Nightcrawler was about to tell the professor who he was beneath the disguise, Xavier recognized him instantly based on reading his thoughts. When the professor spoke his name and expressed his gratitude for him deciding to return to the X-men again, Kurt parted his lips in awe, nearly forgetting that the professor had such power. It brought such warmth to hear him say that he was happy that he returned, as if he were truly missed. The disguised mutant couldn't help but smile widely, expressing his sharp pointed teeth in the process. "I have returned because I vould like to help ze X-men in anyvay zhat I can," He replied proudly, feeling content that he was able to serve a group for a noble cause again.
When Xavier told him that he did not need to wear a disguise anymore, Kurt lowered his head almost shamefully and shifted his eyes off to the side awkwardly, his proud smile reduced into more of a tiny sad smile. Were it not for the fact that he still felt a bit out of place even with the X-men, he would proudly demonstrate those yellow eyes underneath the yellow sunglasses he wore that would occasionally glimpse about the area insecurely every now and then, or the dark blue hair and pointed ears tucked under his hat, or the dark blue skin on his face he had masked with skin colored face paint, or the arrow-pointed tail he had hidden within the clothes that cloaked every inch of his blue skinned body. "S'ank you, Professor," Kurt responded finally and respectfully thanked the Professor for his suggestion, "but perhaps I vill keep it on for now.. Zhat vay zhey vill find zhat I am normal like zhem before zhey see me by my appearance," He added, demonstrating his desire to be accepted among the students because Kurt believed that his appearance always made things difficult to be accepted in group conversations. Besides, Kurt had a soft spot for children, so the last thing he wanted was to frighten them like he did everywhere else. Little did he realize, however, that the students were used to strange appearances by now.
