There were always more, even as they closed in on their destination. Her mother and sister continued to combat the menace in front of them, while Sigyn guarded the rear. Without warning, Sigyn sensed Idunn becoming separated from their back to back fighting for a moment, and the tar like substance took the opportunity to try and lash forward. Sigyn arced out with her spear, though the pestilence lash caught her on the arm, eating through the armor she’d had the foresight to wear. She did not know how her sister fared and hoped for the best at they resumed guarding the rear.
The bracer was quickly discarded. Her mother leapt into battle against another creature, and struck at it, lunging forward with fervor, as far as Sigyn could see. They were close to the eye of the storm now; Sigyn could feel it. Just one of those things in life and in battle now. Hopefully they’d reach their real adversary soon; these things weren’t worth the effort put in to strike them down.
A tank arrived with yet another monster. Sigyn was a bit annoyed with this, though it was a decent plan to try and whittle them down, power wise, before fighting the boss. Luckily, they were close to where they needed to be and Sigyn was fairly sure that most vehicles had flammable fluid in them, if her memories of Earth were correct. Igniting said fluid should be too hard.
Starting a fire or using the elements in the world around them to do so was very basic magic; even a child could do it on Asgard, should they be so inclined. Naturally, for her it was easy to create one nearly on top of the tank. If it didn’t catch, it at least distracted the soldiers enough to break formation and try and put it out. “I suppose their general must be busy with other things.” Sigyn grumbled, annoyed that they were still stuck, slogging through the foot soldiers and no real commander had even been spotted.

For a few short moments, Freya lost herself in the fervor of the battle. Time seemed to slow as she whirled around the beast. Her sword and shield became extensions of herself. The tentacles flopped harmlessly against her shield, but she did not revel in such a small defensive victory. Even when she removed the creature’s leg from its body, she did not let out a whoop of joy. As her blade sliced through the tentacles, earning a screeching hiss from the creature, time began to catch up with her movements and she allowed a tiny smile to form.
While it was reeling from the sudden loss of multiple appendages, Freya slammed her shield squarely into the creature’s chest, forcing it up and off its front paws. With only the one hind paw to keep it balanced, her full body check did precisely as she’d anticipated and sent the beast tumbling to the ground. Never one to let an opportunity slide past her fingers, she continued her charge forward, plunging her blade deep into the creature’s sternum and dragging up. It struggled for a few moments, but a second, more powerful stroke of her blade hacked its head half off and at last it succumbed.
Breathing heavily through her nose, Freya helped Idunn dispatch a few of the lesser straggling humanoid abominations in their vicinity before turning to Sigyn. “Well done,” she murmured to the both of them, watching as the inky tank burned from the outside in. A deafening boom! filled the area as the fire finally reached the good stuff inside and Freya grinned at her daughter. “Let’s go find us a general, then…”
The trek to the coliseum was mostly uneventful, as battles went. There were still humanoids to take care of, but they seemed to thin out the closer the Asgardian ladies got to their destination. When at last they reached the stairs, the number of enemies attacking them had diminished to zero, though she could see some lurking in the vicinity as if waiting for them to step off the staircase. “I think they’re expecting us…” she mused, slowly stepping through the entryway.
Freya finally stopped at the edge of a balcony. She didn’t think she’d gone up so high, but perhaps the field itself was built lower than the entrance. Her eyes skimmed the stands, and she inhaled a deep breath as she decided against trying to count just how many of the humanoid abominations were milling about the area. Turning her attention down to the crashed quinjet, she grit her teeth. “What do you say? Shall we jump in feet first?” she grinned, awaiting any input from her daughters in regards to the best route to take for this portion of the rescue mission.

After the night when I wake up
I'll see what tomorrow brings
Sigyn confirmed that she would stay herself from the battle their mother was engaged in and Idunn grinned; she would finally get to show off her skills in a real fight. Not that she hasn't had them before, but this one outweighed most, if not all previous ones. Sigyn also mentioned her hesitance with using magic to defend them, and requested they deal with the behemoth in haste. “It shall be done.” She said over the clash of battle and started to make her way towards the beast.
Idunn came alongside her mother as the beast tested her defender, and now they could both focus on one side of the creature. One Asgardian had kept it at bay, would two force it to retreat? Likely not, with how eager it seemed to be to get through them. “Do you really think you should provoke it, mother?” Idunn teased playfully, swinging her sword in one hand to loosen her wrist and wishing that she had also brought her axe with her. She was feeling woefully unprepared without it. Still, Freya was the one leaping into the throes of battle and Idunn was there to sweep away any attacks to her mothers back; and she knew hers was covered by Sigyn. These monsters really needed to be done away with.
Where was Thor when one needed him.
Idunn found her position in battle to be between her mother and sister, defending one or the other when it called for it, and fending for herself at other moments. When she felt the slump of the larger monster as it fell, Idunn spared a look to her mother and moved in closer to better defend her if she had fired any and needed to catch a breath. Sigyn, a small way off, had dealt with the approaching tank and Idunn wiped her blade in the small moment they had to themselves.
The eldest daughter followed her mother up the stairs once they reached their destination, her sword still out and raised slightly, ready for the fight if it should occur. She didn't like the feeling those blank eyes gave her though. “Perhaps sword-first is best.” She grinned with a nod, casting her gaze from their mother to her sister.
The call of battle reminded Sigyn of what Asgard really stood for. It had been a long time since they’d fought in a war, a true war anyway. Skirmish battles meant nothing to them, and it hardly seemed fair to count the second battle of New york, when in this timeline, that invasion had never happened. Thanos had changed the course of history for the universe alone, or perhaps, just them.
It had been theorized that there were multiple universes that existed out there in the world, this was just one of many. However, Sigyn couldn’t be preoccupied with the thought of multiple universes; they were in the middle of a battle right now, and they day wasn’t yet won. Not until they’d dragged the leader of Egyptia out into the street and tossed him about like a ragdoll. He was a conqueror?
Let him try, while Asgard defended the Earth, Sigyn thought. They would give him a good thrashing and toss his carcass out into the middle of his capital city. Well, perhaps she was Asgardian after all. Her sister confirmed their plan, and the trio made their way through most of the monsters, their mother in battle with the main one.
“Let’s. I’d rather not stay here any longer than I have to.” Sigyn stated, covering their back. Idunn and her mother took care of the larger threats; Sigyn covered the back with many minor misshapen creatures assaulting them from there, as if trying to overwhelm them with sheer numbers.
They finally reached the arena, Sigyn noted, with the ungodly beings milling about, as if waiting for their master to arrive. They wished for a fight, for entertainment? Then the three of them would fairly give it to them. She was about to respond to her sister when her arm was gripped from behind with the tarred substance. Sigyn yelled out and flipped the opposing monster on to its back, stabbing it through with her spear. The festering rot remained, however. The mere touch of that one had eaten through her armor and seared her skin raw; it was akin to having dunked her arm in an acid bath.
“Well, what’s a fight without a few battle scars, sister?” Sigyn said to Idunn, before following her mother’s lead. Surely the commander of this group would show up; she felt that it had wanted them to come to the arena in the first place.
