ASGARDIAN STORYLINE
Two years after the events of Avengers, the notorious war criminal Loki Laufeyson has finally broken down and revealed the source of his ties to the Chitauri empire. After a great deal of questioning that amounted to nothing, the once-prince of Asgard chose to speak of his own accord after an attack was launched upon the recently repaired Bifrost Bridge that resulted in the death of six Asgardian warriors and an injury to Lady Frigga.
The scenario spelled out by Loki during his interviews was grotesque enough that it was believed a sadistic trick, resulting in his immediate expulsion back to his holding cell. Barely two weeks after Loki's confessions, another attack was launched and the northern quarter of Asgard was leveled to the water in the wake of it. The call to arms in Asgard sounded and messengers were sent to allied worlds.
Confirmation of Loki's report on the state of Svartalfheim came from the Vanir, and revelations of attacks launched on other realms has painted a very dark picture indeed. Loki was brought forth to questioning once again, and with Frigga's presence he was quite forthcoming. Combining reports from Loki and the Vanir, the Allfather has accepted that war has been launched against Asgard and will fast be making its way to Midgard.
Thor has been dispatched to Midgard along with the only warrior the Allfather is willing to spare in light of the current attacks on Asgard. Indentured into Thor's care, Loki has been charged with the defense of Midgard as recompense for his actions. Should he attempt betrayal, the Allfather's word is quite clear - any whom are capable of it, may slay him should he turn against Midgard again.
Soon enough, Baldr Odinson, the new heir apparent to the throne with Thor's newfound reticence to take it himself, joins his brothers on Midgard. He is haunted with visions of Ragnarök and worried it is on the horizon.
