PLAYBY: Anthony Mackie OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: Sara AGE: 24 GENDER: Femme TIMEZONE: Cst OTHER CHARACTERS: z inactive pepperpotts z inactive timothydugan @fandral z inactive dorma [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: Volunteering: There’s something to be said for giving back to the community. His parents were big believers that an individual could make a difference in the world if he just got his hands dirty and refused to get discouraged. And he likes to think he made a difference to someone’s life over the years. Even if he only helps one person it will be enough. Mario Kart: Lover of video games, Mario Kart holds a special place in his heart. Even though there have been multiple incarnations of the game it was on that he grew up on and there’s something to be said for gathering your friends together for a sound thrashing; except when Romanoff STEALS YOUR STEERING WHEEL MID RACE! Flying: Sam had loved the adrenaline rush he had gotten from being a paratrooper. It was different from any other sort of rush he had gotten in the army. It was a kind of controlled chaos; you were plummeting towards the earth but all you needed to do to stop the descent was to pull the tab and float downwards. Applying his newly learned knowledge: There is nothing more satisfying than taking something you studied up on and then using it in a real world situation. It might not work right away, but that just means when it clicks into place finally it’s that much sweeter. Mechanics: As a child growing up in a poor neighborhood Sam had to make his own entertainment and there was never a lack of men tinkering with their cars. It didn’t take long for Sam to befriend them and pick up the basics. While he might not be a genius when it comes to mechanical engineering he can fix his car when it breaks down and patch up his wings in the field. That’s more than enough for him. DISLIKES: Falling: It’s one thing if you have the tools to land safely and another entirely if your equipment malfunctions. There is no worse feeling in the world then plummeting out of the sky and being unable to capture your bearings. Losing: Sam is competitive, very competitive, and while he is not a sore loser he isn’t the most gracious one either. Still, he has no issues admitting defeat, but that doesn’t mean he won’t take a cheap shot here or there. shot. Traitors: As a patriot Sam can’t imagine someone hating their country so much that they would actively seek out it’s destruction and the destruction of thousands of innocent people. War: As a former soldier Sam can understand the need for war, but that doesn’t mean he likes it. When countries go to war there were countless innocent people who got caught up in the crossfire; not to mention the good men and women (on both sides) who lost their lives too soon. Sudden Loud Noises: Over time he’s gotten better with this but when the quiet is broken by a loud sound he still automatically jumps into action - even if it’s just the wind slamming the door into the wall. STRENGTHS: Loyalty: Those that are closest to him have his unwavering support and loyalty. This being said if he feels like what they’re doing is stupid he’ll tell them, but if it gets to be an us vs the world situation he will always stand by his man. Persistence: When tasked with something Sam won’t give up until he has completed it. Trustworthy: Sam is a trustworthy man. If you tell him something in confidence you can be sure it will not pass his lips. Loose lips sink ships after all. WEAKNESSES: Competitive A little bit of competition is good for the soul but too much can mean toeing the line between safety and personal safety. Or even between friendly banter and ending a life long friendship. Stubborn: Once he’s made up his mind or formed an opinion it’s hard to change it. Which can easily work to his detriment. Thrillseeker: Adrenaline can been addicting to the point where you actively put yourself in situations where you are guaranteed to feel the rush. GOALS: Get into MENSA:Sam first heard of the organization while he was attending NYU and ever since then it has been his dream to join. Create a better support structure for Veterans with PTSD: While the disorder is getting more recognition there is still so much work that needs to be done if soldiers returning from their tours are expected to successfully become citizens again without loss of their sanity or life. FEARS: Death - Having completed two tours it could be assumed that Sam had long since made his peace with death. But it was the opposite. He lost both his parents to young, a nephew who had just been a kid, and a countless number of brothers. Each loss didn’t bring him a further understanding of death; only more grief and the desire to never go through it again or to put people in the same position when he died. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Sam Wilson is an easy going guy in that he’s not quick to anger and he enjoys a good joke as much as the next guy. His idea of a relaxing day it to kick back over the grill with an assortment of meats, drink beer, and chat with his friends. It’s the simple things in life that keep him happy. Despite having been in the army for a few years Sam never got into the habit of simply following orders because they came from someone higher up. Now he did recognize there was a time and a place to question orders, but that didn’t prevent him from getting into trouble for asking ‘why’ of his superiors. Why this objective? Why now? Wouldn’t it make more sense to do it later when people were focused elsewhere? Growing up in Harlem, Sam hadn’t had access to the best education. People didn’t really care to educate those on the lower end of the economic spectrum. Early on he discovered that if he wished to learn how to do something he had to teach himself. This was a skill that came in handy when he decided to get his GED after dropping out of highschool so he could attend University. Sam is of the opinion that competition makes life more interesting and everything can be made into a competition. As a child his siblings fostered this thought by engaging him in a number of competitions of their own and trying their hardest to beat him at the competitions he started. They were usually stupid little things like who could get their chores done the fastest or bizarre but funny ones like who would make their minister of a father swear - this was usually accomplished by leaving small toys out (like legos) where their father couldn’t see them but would inevitably step on them. Having lost a large number of people who are important to him Sam values his family and friends. There is nothing they can ask of him that’s too trivial or two small. Need a jar opened but don’t have the strength to do it? Sam’s your guy. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: BIRTHPLACE: Harlem, New York RESIDENCE: New York Apartment PARENTS: Father: Paul Wilson - deceased. Mother: Darlene Wilson - Deceased SIBLINGS: Sarah Wilson-Casper (sister), Gideon Wilson (brother), IMPORTANT RELATIVES: Other relatives include Jim Wilson (nephew), Jody Casper (nephew) IMPORTANT PERSON: Single and ready to mingle OVERALL HISTORY: Samuel Thomas Wilson was the second child of Paul and Darlene Wilson; placing him smack dab in the middle. His older sister Sarah had been desperately wishing for a baby sister and was quite heart broken to learn she would have to share her toys with a boy. Sam for his part, as all sibling should, took great joy in tormenting his older sister. If it made her scream or stomp her foot you can bet he was going to do it again and again. However his fun didn’t last as long as he thought it would as their youngest brother Gideon grew up and decided he wanted to be just as obnoxious as his siblings were - combined. That had not been what he’d prayed for when he’d asked God for a younger brother. Sam had wanted something along the lines of a best friend not a little terror who didn’t understand how to play his games. Darlene and Paul enjoyed their rambunctious brood. Paul was a minister for the local Baptist church and Darlene was a middle school teacher. Neither made a lot of money but they still worked to ensure their children were fed, clothed, and had a roof over their head no matter how tight money got. From a young age Sam befriended the neighbors. He was a happy child and always so eager to soak up any knowledge he possibly could. When the men would be in the street dressed in their white undershirts with their heads perpetually stuck under the popped hood of their car Sam would be right beside them handing them tools and asking as many questions as he could think of. Then on the weekends when the families would get together to cook up a big meal he could be found on a stool in one of their kitchens, sampling the fare. But it wasn’t all roses and sunshine. No matter how much his parents tried to shield him from the bad things in life they couldn’t hide the fact that they lived in a poor neighborhood that was rife with gang activity. Despite their efforts Sam and his siblings were well are of the criminal activities the gangs got up to on a daily basis. Adults liked to talk and didn’t always consider that children would be eavesdropping in the hopes of getting an idea as to what was going on. His parents insisted that they stay away from the gangs and anything to do with them. Sam was more than happy to oblige. He had bigger plans than becoming a high school dropout and falling in with the gangs. While his parents pushed this, giving them constant lectures about why gangs were bad, his dad didn’t follow what he taught. On his way home from church Paul Wilson came across two rival games in the midst of a turf war. Instead of turning right around and waiting inside the church, or some other building, he decided that he, a lone man in his late 30s, was the perfect man to break up the fight. And he lost his life because of it. Sam was seventeen when he lost his father and he was fairly certain things couldn’t get worse. If money had been tight before it was even worse now. Sam begged his mother to let him drop out of school so he could get a job to help support them. Darlene declined. She wanted more for her son then to grow up in the slums and stay there; she was aware that if any of her children were to get out they needed to have a decent education. Instead she opted to take a 2nd job. Finding a job as a waitress working the 2nd shift ment Darlene got off work after all the buses had closed down for the night. Every night she would walk home taking care to stay in the light and not make eye contact with strangers. That didn’t help. One night on her way home she was set upon by muggers. No one was entirely sure what happened but the next morning Darlene was found in an alleyway with a stab wound to her side. Best anyone could tell she bled out before someone had come across her. With both their parents gone Sam and his sister did what they could to support themselves and Gideon. Sarah picked up as many hours as she could get and Sam dropped out of high school to work in the local mechanic shop. By the time Sam was 18 years old he had made the decision to enlist in the army. This served a couple different purposes. A soldier made more than he was getting working in the mechanics shop (plus he would actually get health care) and it would serve getting him out of the rut he was in. He was fairly certain that if he didn’t leave the neighborhood now he would find himself unable to get out much like the rest of the residents. Sam enjoyed his time in the Air Force. He enjoyed the comradery and the stupid games they played. But most of all he enjoyed knowing that every man in his platoon would lay down their life for him and that he would do the same for them. Then there were the planes. While Sam might have flirted with the idea of being a pilot when he was little if had never been a serious job consideration when he was older. However after his first simulation class in the Air Force he was hooked. Sam spent as much time in the air as he possibly could. There was just something powerful about having such a high tech bit of equipment under your hand and having it respond smoothly and effortlessly to your every command. He loved it. Taking advantage of the GI bill Sam worked to get his GED so he could attend NYU in his down time in order to get a degree in social work. During his time with the military he served two tours in Iraq before being approached by the 58th Rescue Squadron. He started off as a paratrooper and was often sent in during the cover of night, alongside his partner Riley, to carry out a bevy of covert missions. They were pretty good at what they did, if Sam said so himself. Which was why when the Air Force developed the EXO-7 they approached Sam and Riley to be their beta testers. The wings were an amazing bit of technology. While you still had some control over where you went with the parachute it was still heavily dependent on what way the wind was blowing. The EXO-7 afforded far more control and dexterity than the parachutes had allowing the two men to carry out their missions more effectively and with far more stealth. Despite the extra maneuverability the suit afforded the two men it still was no match for the Rocket Propelled Grenade that took down Riley. Then men had been as close as brothers and the loss of his friend had hit Sam hard. Once his contract with the Air Force was up Sam decided it was time to retire from the military and start a career elsewhere. Settling in D.C. Sam got a job at the Veteran’s Affair’s office working with Soldiers who suffered from the debilitating disorder of PTSD work to learn how find coping mechanisms that work for them and slowly find their way back into Civilian life. While it didn’t provide the adrenaline rush that being in the Air Force did, it was still rewarding in it’s own right.
