[PTabbedContent][PTab=GENERAL INFORMATION] CHARACTER INFO: NAME: Virginia Potts ALIAS: Pepper AGE: 44 OCCUPATION: CFO of Stark Industries MEMBER GROUP: Civilian POWERS AND ABILITIES: None PLAYBY: Gwyneth Paltrow OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: Sara AGE: 24 GENDER: Female TIMEZONE: CST OTHER CHARACTERS: None [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: Wine - Can't go wrong with a nice glass of wine. Shoes - Pepper has quite the collection of heels. Post it notes - You can leave tiny messages for people or reminders of things that need to be done. What's not to love. Punctual People - Time is money after all. Chocolate - Diamonds are said to be a girl's best friend but she'll always turn to chocolate first. DISLIKES: Strawberries - the cause Pepper to break out in hives. People who are rude - really there's no call for it. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Anything sticky - She always feels like she can't get it off her hand afterwards no matter how much she washes. Missing work - While she understands they can function without her she's certain something's going to go wrong. Cold coffee - That's just a crime against humanity. It's time for a fresh cup, it doesn't taste the same after it's been microwaved. STRENGTHS: Detail Oriented - She has always worked for fairly large corporations and large companies always have projects developing in different corners of the market. Keeping up with the personel, projects, stockholders, and the future growth of the company requires keeping track of all the tiny cogs that make the machine work. Like most members of society in this day in age Pepper’s phone is on her person at all times. On her phone is an intricate scheduling system that contains a detailed itinerary of her day to day activities along with to-do lists and a whole host of memos. She’s been informed on multiple occasions that it’s a touch excessive but Pepper’s convinced she wouldn’t be able to do her job without any of it. Resourceful - While experience and a masters degree in Business Administration has made her equipped to handle any situation that might come up sometimes something comes up that throws her completely out of her depth. A projection of the estimated cost it will take if their plan to adapt the city infrastructure to use the green energy produced by Stark Industries if the power adaptors are made out of titanium vs. aluminum? And will the cost be offset by money saved in overall energy or would it be more cost effective in the long run to keep using fossil fuels? While Pepper might not know the answer to the question right away she knows exactly who to ask to get the necessary figures. Kickboxing - A firm believer that a woman should be able to protect herself if necessary Pepper picked up kickboxing while attending University. That and a physical education credit had been necessary to graduate. She’d never really been one for any sort of violence and had been set to hate it from the very start. Reluctantly she found herself growing to enjoy the physical exercise. The routines were a great way to blow off stress and focus her mind after a particularly trying day. Pepper still keeps up with it but mostly for exercise. WEAKNESSES: Work-a-holic - Pepper is definitely one of those people who believe if you want something done right you do it yourself. Because of this she always has too many projects on her plate that really could be delegated somewhere else and still get the desired results. She’s trying to get better at not having to look over every single aspect the business (and aspects of her personal life) with a magnifying glass and to simply let go and enjoy herself. It’s a work in progress. Worrier - No matter how she might plan something there is no way Pepper can guarantee that everything will happen just as planned. And something always goes wrong in just about every situation. Most of the time it’s small issues, the caterer brought the wrong appetizers or she’s attending a benefit and almost positive she’s forgotten to put on deodorant. It’s not the most comfortable feeling in the world but certainly one she can work around.
And then there’s Tony. Loveable but wholly unpredictable Tony who could be tucked safely away in the Tower brushing up of files one moment and the next flying a what looks to be a nuclear bomb into some unknown rift in the sky while Pepper is stuck on a plane unable to do anything but run through all the possible outcomes over and over in her head until her stomach hurts so much and all she wants to do is throw up. Flusters in highly stressful situations - Boardroom negotiations might not even cause Pepper to bat an eye but get her out of her comfort zone and put either herself or someone she cares deeply about in the way of harm and the panic starts to set in. During such situations she can take the lead if absolutely necessary but would much prefer that someone else give the orders. She would hate to mess up and have it mean losing the people she cares about. GOALS: -Take more risks. Pepper feels like while she's made lots of business risks she hasn't risked a lot in her personal life. She wants to try new things and make new memories. Time to get out of her comfort shell. -Spend less time working and more time living. As a workaholic this will be hard but it's time to try. FEARS: Fear of failure. It seems like a strange thing for a successful woman to worry about but she's watched people build a wonderful reputation for themselves only to make one mistake and have it all taken away. That's not something you recover from easily if ever. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Pepper Potts is a people person. She very much enjoys socializing and conversing with old friends and strangers alike. While she’s not nearly as charismatic as Tony, she like to think she can influence people with a word or two, or perhaps put them at ease. Polite and somewhat reserved around those she doesn’t know terribly well, she occasionally gives off the impression being cold and detached. This isn’t the case. She is a very passionate woman who throws herself wholeheartedly into whatever project she decides to pick up. When asked for a favor Pepper will gladly do what she can to assist but don’t mistake her for a pushover. She couldn’t be and have been the personal assistant to Tony Stark. Within three days she would have found herself without a job. Stubborn and opinionated Pepper’s not afraid to make herself heard. After making a decision she feels is right she’ll dig her heels in and fight. Better to do everything she could to fight for what she felt was the correct decision and lose than to not give it her all and wonder if there was something else she could have done. Pepper can be very protective of the people she cares about. She might not have superhuman abilities but she has an extensive resource of friends and acquaintances to call upon if necessary. It’s no where near as dramatic as rescuing someone from a burning building but she can pull a few strings and with a generous donation to a charity or city department have any charges property destruction dropped. Pepper likes to think she’s a patience person, able to calmly put up with just about anything but even she has her tipping point. If bothered repeatedly while trying to get something done she has been known to snap at the person annoying her. And on occasion argue. IMPORTANT PERSON: There is no one at this time but she remains ever hopeful OVERALL HISTORY: Only child of Mark and June Potts, Virginia had a loving childhood. Her parents encouraged her passions and tried to maintain the difficult dance of protecting her while allowing her to experience things for herself. In school Virginia did well for herself graduating Suma Cum Laude from high school and then Magna Cum Laude from University. When she’d started off in college Virginia hadn’t been entirely sure as to what it was she wanted to do for a career. There were just so many different things she felt she could be good at and had no real resources to narrow her choices down. Eventually she decided on a degree in Business Association. Virginia figured that the degree would help her get her foot in the door of any company she might wish to work for once she had a better idea of what it was she wanted to be doing for the rest of her life. The inability to decide on a career path annoyed Virginia but she knew that her first ‘real’ job could very well decide the future of her career path. She just wanted to make sure it would be something she would enjoy. Shortly after graduating she got a job working for Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM) where she worked as an accountant. Killian, the boss, started making advances and just wouldn’t take no for an answer. Uncomfortable, Virginia figured her best bet would be a career change. A background check and a few interviews later found Virginia working for Stark Industries as an accountant. While she enjoyed working with numbers she didn’t plan on remaining in accounting for the rest of her career. And then one day while auditing the finance accounts she came across an overlooked account error. When she tried to point it out to her superiors they brushed her off saying she must have been mistaken, the boss himself had submitted those numbers so there was no way they could be off. Virginia, believing that no one was infallible, decided to take the matter up with the boss himself. Only his goons decided to not only turn her away but to get overly physical doing in doing so. Reacting on instinct Virginia doused the overly handsy goon with a liberal dose of pepper spray. That would teach him to watch where he put his hands on a woman. Slightly embarrassed but not regretting her decision in the least, Virginia found herself meeting with the boss certain she was going to be given the sack. Instead she found herself promoted to his personal assistant and nicknamed “Pepper”. And it stuck.
She did everything she could to make that stupid nickname disappear. At first it was funny, but that wore off really quick. But it never went away. Even people who had always known her as Virginia began to call her Pepper and somewhere down the line the name on her personnel file was even changed to read “Pepper Potts”. Thought she never could tell if that had been a joke or an honest mistake. With her new position Pepper found it was almost impossible to be bored. She quickly picked up the ins and outs of the company and did what she found herself assisting Tony in ways she would not have expected. As a PA she knew a lot of her job was going to be getting coffee, picking up clothes from the dry cleaners, taking memos, and rescheduling meetings. What she didn’t expect was having to chase off one night stands and women who chased after her boss. It was a little difficult at first but after the third or fourth woman Pepper found herself getting the hang of it. Than everything changed. Tony went away on a routine business trip leaving Pepper behind to man the fort in his absence. He was often traveling around the world for one reason or another so this trip should not have been anything special. But this time he never came back. Pepper was asleep in bed when she received the message that the convoy Tony had been traveling in during his visit to Afghanistan had been attacked. Her boss was missing and could very well be dead. Back home they did everything they could to find Tony and bring him home. Favours were called in, resources were exhausted and still nothing. There were days where Pepper would fall asleep at her desk, closing her eyes for just a moment only to open them moments later and discover hours had passed. It was a very difficult time. Three months later and she was finally able to let go of the breath she must have been holding since her boss’ disappearance. Pepper was desperate to learn what had happened to Tony while he was in Afghanistan but he simply asked for a burger and a press conference. That turned out to be a mistake. During what had to be the most informal press conference she’d ever attended (do you know how hard it was to sit comfortably on the ground while in a short skirt and heels? It’s not easy) she found herself seriously wishing she had waited to call the press conference until she had a better idea of what was going to happen. He’d only been back a few hours from what had to be a seriously traumatic ordeal, this wasn’t the time to be shaking up the very foundation of the company. Still her protestations fell on deaf ears, and while she might not agree with the decision she still had a job to do. At the very least she could manage the fallout. Pepper carried on as best she could despite being very worried about the well-being of her boss. He had decided to withdraw from public life and was working ons some super secret project he wasn’t willing to discuss yet. She still wasn’t entirely sure what had happened to him in Afghanistan. So poured all her efforts into her job and making sure the day to day aspects of Tony’s life moved smoother than ever. That much she could give him. Things continued to deteriorate. Tony became paranoid and Pepper quickly found herself swept up in some scheme he’d hatched. Apparently he felt like Obidiah Stane had something to do with his capture. That was ridiculous right? Why would the man he regarded as an Uncle want to hurt him? Pepper herself was rather close to Stane and couldn’t see that happening. But she went along with the plan anyways and after finding herself being chased of the the very building she worked in began to think there was some merit to Tony’s paranoia. Things between Stane and Tony turned out to be 10x worse that anything Pepper could have predicted. While she could kind of understand Stane’s desire to run the company she just couldn’t wrap her head around the fact he was actively trying to kill Tony. Worried sick, Pepper gathered Agent Coulson (as well as some other Agents) and went to help Tony effectively placing herself in danger. Obadiah, in the Iron Monger suit, decided to go after Pepper knowing Tony cared for her. Tony intercepted him allowing Pepper time to blow the main Arc Reactor (as instructed) in order to defeat Obadiah. Pepper really didn’t want to do it. There was no way adding electricity to the mix of a fight between two men in metal suits could end well. And yet some how it did. Obadiah was dead and everyone else was bruised but still alive. That was a victory right? Things went back to normal for a little bit. Or what could pass as normal anyways. But it wasn’t to remain that way. Pepper became aware that something was off but she wasn’t entirely sure what it could be. His behaviour was erratic and more reckless than usual and there was nothing Pepper could do to pull him away from whatever demon was driving him. She only hoped he’d be able to work it out of his system before he wound up seriously hurting himself. Then in a turn of events she could not have foreseen Pepper found herself signing paperwork that would make her CEO of Stark Industries. This development left her feeling torn. Obviously it was a great opportunity for her but what did it mean that Tony was so readily willing to give up the very thing he’d worked so hard to build? He’d pulled the company away from building weapons, developed an entire new market for them and was now simply walking away? Well, whatever it was that prompted the handover she was going to do her best to make sure everything continued to work smoothly and the company remained a positive reflection of the Stark Legacy. Doing her duty as CEO of Stark Industries Pepper attended an EXPO where Justin Hammer was showcasing his drones. She certainly didn’t expect to learn Justin Hammer had been aiding the criminal Ivan Vanko and had Hammer arrested. However she wasn’t out danger yet. Leaving the EXPO she managed to step into the battle between Tony as Iron Man and Ivan Vanko, once again placing herself in danger. An experience she somehow managed to come out of alive but she really needed to rethink her strategy if this was going to keep happening. She didn’t have much protection against superhuman abilities - machine made or not. Something that became readily apparent when the Mandarin came on the scene. During one of the terrorist's attacks Happy, a dear friend of hers, became critically injured. Pepper had fully expected they’d get the police involved, maybe Homeland Security even, and then take care of Happy while he recovered. But that wasn’t what happened at all. Instead she found the address of where she was living being public broadcasted in order to get the terrorist's attention. Oh no, that was just asking for trouble. She was fully intending on staying elsewhere while all this got sorted out. How could she sleep knowing a known terrorist knew where she lived and could very well be targeting the house. However everything fell to pieces before she could enact her plan. With the help of the newest of Tony’s suits she was able to make it out of the collapsing house with little damage. She had expected to regroup with Tony to discuss their plan of action but he was gone. No where to be found. Once again Pepper found herself alone and trying to cope with Tony’s disappearance. So she continued to run Stark Industries as always and began to run interference for Tony. Figuring it would be best if no one realized he was missing, she did her hardest to keep that under wraps while not divulging any other information anyone might be fishing for. Despite her best efforts, the wrong people knew very well that Tony had gone off on his own, and they wanted to find him. Knowing he would come running once Tony realized Pepper was in trouble, she was kidnapped. And as an added treat, she was put in the Extremis program. Her days in Killian's tender mercies were a blurred together in one hazy, painful fog as her body worked to resist the Extremis. She managed to survive the procedure, which was an excellent thing, as she during the fight between Killian and Tony she fell off a rig from a high enough height that there should have no chance for survival. As the fight raged on, she wound up killing Killian (an act that still gives her nightmares to this day) with the help of one of the Iron Man Suits. The next few months were absolute hell for Pepper. Extrimis was still in her system and no one was entirely sure how to go about removing it. She went through procedure after procedure hoping that this time they’d be able to remove all traces from her system. The more tests she went through the more worried she became, extremis was not stable and she had poured over the files herself reading time and time again about how even the smallest things could trigger a negative reaction and leave the host either incapacitated or dead. Finally she was declined fit and lacking any traits of Extremis. But that wasn’t the only thing that changed in her life. Over time people grow, change, and even go their separate ways. After much discussion Pepper and Tony decided that while they’d made a good go at things they really were better off as friends. While she knew that breaking up was the best course of action it still hurt something awful. Not sure if she could continue working for Stark Industries Pepper decided to take a bit of a sabbatical. She got a job for another technology company but it just wasn’t the same and before long she found herself back at Stark Industries. It was her home after all, had been for many years, and no matter how events might transpire home was where the heart was. HISTORY:
A lot of Pepper’s timeline remains fundamentally the same. She acted as Tony’s secretary for years before eventually making her way up to CFO of Stark Industries.
During the alien attack of Manhattan four years ago Pepper was crushed by a falling building and most likely would have died if it wasn’t for the experimental surgery she underwent. She awoke later to find a shiny new arc reactor neatly installed in her chest - where one hadn’t been before. It took Pepper forever to come to terms with this altercation. She didn’t want anything that been made out of war forever attached to her person.
Eventually Pepper came to accept her new accessory and, coupled with a brand new suit, decided to do something good with the technology she never wanted but needed to stay alive. And so Rescue was born. Pepper focused less on fighting the bad guys and concentrated her efforts on assisting the hapless civilians who were caught in the crossfire.
Partly due to her work as Rescue and partly due to her ties to the Avengers (she’d met most of them many times through Tony), Pepper was asked to serve as Avenger’s Ambassador.
