[PTabbedContent][PTab=GENERAL INFORMATION] CHARACTER INFO: NAME: Remy LeBeau ALIAS: Cajun, Gumbo, Swamp Rat, Le Diable Blanc, and many more AGE: 32 OCCUPATION: Professional thief, Adventurer MEMBER GROUP: X-Men [but occasionally goes solo] POWERS AND ABILITIES: Gambit is an Alpha-level mutant who can convert an inorganic object's potential energy into an explosive kinetic energy simply by touching it. He uses smaller items, such as playing cards, for the time it takes to convert a smaller object is much quicker and more convenient. This kinetic energy is released when it makes direct contact with another object, including enemies. It is most often used for offensive combat, but Gambit has been known to use his mutant ability to create openings or to clear a path. His inhuman accuracy with such items is extraordinary and makes hitting the intended target a spot-on effort. His aim is impeccable. If the energy isn't utilized in any way then it will simply dissipate on its own. But this ability is not restricted or limited to just tapping into the kinetic energy of an object. Gambit has proven that he is also capable of channeling his mutant ability to enhance the strength of his bo staff for increased melee damage. It also enables him to create a 'shockwave' of energy by slamming his bo staff into the ground, causing a kinetic wave. To show off, Gambit can also utilize his gift to make his playing cards seemingly 'hover' in mid-air by creating a static field around around them, physically lifting them; though he has a variety of ways to utilize this ability. Gambit is also capable of performing feats of superhuman agility with an amazing level of dexterity because of the bio-kinetic energy that he taps into. This energy is being generated constantly and allows him to maneuver around in ways that would be deemed too complicated for the average human to perform. His flexibility is impressive here. He has studied the French art of kickboxing called 'Savate' and Bojutsu, and is a competent hand-to-hand combatant. This bio-kinetic energy also encompasses his entire body and creates a strong static interference that protects his mind from telepathic intrusion, shielding his thoughts and making his mind unreadable. This enables Gambit to move around telepaths undetected. But this thief always has one more ace up his sleeve. More specifically, he possesses the unusual ability to exert his own subtle hypnotic influence over any sentient mind. This 'hypnotic charm' can persuade sentient beings to believe anything he says and even agree with any of his suggestions. However, this ability is innate and thus not generally perceived as a conscious effort on his part. It's just acting naturally. This ability can be blocked by telepaths if they so choose. He is a renowned thief, a child of the notorious LeBeau family and affiliated with the Thieves' Guild. Gambit can pick-pocket with the best of them and knows to break into an area while remaining as silent as a mouse the entire time. He is one of the world's greatest thieves and, as a graduate of the Thieves' Guild, is considered a high-level threat when it comes to his shady skills in this department. PLAYBY: Marcus Schenkenberg OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: Djinn AGE: 29 GENDER: Male TIMEZONE: EST OTHER CHARACTERS: N/A [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: ♠ Combat Training: Gambit enjoys training because it allows him to let loose, letting off steam. He utilizes the Danger Room to hone his agility and work on his evasion skills. ♠ Gambling: A bad habit, no doubt. But Gambit is a risk-taker and when he isn't gambling for money, he's taking chances. He gets a certain thrill from the rush it gives him. ♠ Blues/Jazz: Growing up in New Orleans, 'Blues' is one of the most common forms of expression through music. It has a soft, calming sound that reminds Gambit of home. ♠ Playing Cards: An object from his childhood, Gambit has a certain fondness for a deck of cards. They conceal easily, they charge quickly and he is an expert card player. ♠ Louisiana Cooking: Nothing like a good plate of Southern cooking. Being something of a culinary master himself, Gambit enjoys the Southern fried taste of his hometown. ♠ Relaxation: Finally, Gambit enjoys his downtime. The freedom to do whatever he likes on his own time. Teammates view this as laziness and Gambit would be hard-pressed to argue. He is a laid back and carefree guy who just likes to enjoy life. DISLIKES: ♦ The Government: No matter how many times they try to play to the side of mutants, which is rare, Gambit has never trusted anyone affiliated with the government. ♦ Victor Creed: Gambit knows Sabretooth well and doesn't like him one bit. He considers Creed to be a heartless, soulless animal who needs to be put down. Plus, he killed his woman. ♦ Seafood: Despite his Louisiana background, Gambit can't stand seafood of any variety and is disgusted by the sight of it. You would never get him to try squid. ♦ Wrong Bet: Being a hustler, Gambit is notorious in his 'stomping grounds' as a real bum who owes nearly everyone money. His ability to lose money could contend with his mutant abilities. ♦ Taking Orders: He isn't usually a team player and this attitude often puts him at odds with his teammates; at least those who like to be in charge. Gambit is a loner and sticks to that way of thinking. ♦ The Brotherhood: He can understand, and sympathize, with Magneto and his band of evil mutants. But Gambit does not agree with their way of thinking and willingly stands against them whenever they wish to harm the innocent. Gambit has no issue with humanity. STRENGTHS: ♥ Reliability: Despite trust issues within the team, Gambit has never held them up and is always standing right beside of his teammates to combat any evils that threaten the world. He doesn't turn his back on his allies for any reason. ♥ Charming: Obvious, yes. But Gambit's charming nature is warm and inviting. He is often the one certain teammates go to for a second opinion because he is just that type of person. Several of the students enjoy conversing with this thief because he is such a fun guy to be around. ♥ Level-headed: Gambit always attempts to remain calm and collected in the heat of battle. Losing his cool isn't an option because that mistake could spell his demise if he doesn't keep calm and focused. This makes him a formidable adversary. WEAKNESSES: ♣ Women: Gambit can't seem to choose a good woman to stay with and always ends up falling for the wrong type. He goes for the 'bad girls' and it often ends up biting him where the sun don't shine more times than he wants to count. ♣ Devilish Stare: Gambit's unusual red-on-black eyes are weak to sunlight, and can damage his field of vision if he is exposed for any duration of time. This could potentially put him at a disadvantage at the mercy of a ruthless adversary. ♣ Bad Charge: This Cajun possesses an explosive mutant power but it has its flaws. The time it takes Gambit to charge an object depends on its size. If he were to charge a statue or something the size of a car it would obviously take a couple of minutes and leave him open for attack. Never a good hand to be dealt. GOALS: ♢ Gambit's first and foremost goal in this lifetime is to pull off the greatest heist the world has ever seen. The sheer thrill, the rush of adrenaline, of doing something amazing with his skill set knocks anything else aside. FEARS: ♤ Gambit has the potential to reach Omega-level as a mutant because of his true power. However, since that portion has been removed Gambit can no longer access it. But there's still a possibility. It scares him because it would be uncontrollable and would likely cause him to harm some of his best friends and teammates. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Gambit is an enigma. Not even his own teammates can get a true reading on him because he is so mysterious and independent all the time. He keeps things bottled in and doesn't share with the others. This has put him out as being untrustworthy and supposedly hiding things from his allies. He is mysterious and it is that shady gray area that makes him the most interesting. No one knows enough about the Cajun to truly use much against him or bringing up his past. Only he knows for certain what he's done to others and to whom. But if you get on his good side, and just trust him, he can be your most loyal ally in the threat of danger. He is fiercely devoted to his teammates and wouldn't give it even a moment of hesitation to aid them when they need help the most. Because of his past as a thief, Gambit isn't trusted anyway due to how quickly he can remove certain items from your person without you even knowing they're gone. This makes it hard for the Cajun to get close to others because of trust issues. Admittedly, no one would trust a professional thief with anything. It's a difficult life he chose for himself, but it was his choice. He pays the price. Every man has a price to pay... He pays his in spades. But of course there is his charming side. Gambit is easy to get along with and hang around because he is so easygoing and doesn't take anything too seriously. This can put him at odds with some of his allies but his laid back and calm demeanor makes for an easy friend to acquire. Gambit is easy to talk to, and more often than not this makes for good conversation. He doesn't act prejudice against anyone or any race, always the first to cheer you up. When you're feeling down and out go visit Remy. He can bring your spirits up just by talking to you. Deep down, he's a genuinely good-hearted person who cares about others. But his shady past will never let him live down his regrets. Gambit has plenty of those. Regardless, he is always the one you should have on your side. He can be a 'show off' to the extreme. His ability to convert an object's potential energy can be used in a variety of ways and all serve to amuse him. He also likes to display his Bojutsu skills whenever he's sparring with a fellow X-Man or using the Danger Room. But Gambit just loves to hustle others out of their money at Poker. He's done plenty of that through the years and it's gotten him into heaps of trouble. Gambit still owes certain people from the bayou and he hadn't visited NOLA in years. Just a prime example of how his big mouth and his skills gets him in hot water with people. Gambit isn't one of the mutants that despises humanity. He embraces their existence and loves humans just as much as a human themselves. He likes going to clubs, casinos, restaurants, and the like. Just because he is homosuperior does not mean he thinks that way. In fact, Gambit couldn't care less. That's Magneto's thing. He never saw humanity as a virulent plague that needs to be exterminated. Gambit loves to flirt with all women, no matter their race. It is that flirtatious nature of his that also attracts the wrong type of women. You should meet his ex-wife. Gambit is notorious for having bad luck with the ladies because every woman he's been with has been crazy or evil. But no matter how cold their heart, Gambit always broke through their shields and warmed their heart one way or another. As he always does. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: BIRTHPLACE: New Orleans, Louisiana RESIDENCE: Xavier's School for the Gifted PARENTS: Jean-Luc LeBeau [adopted father] SIBLINGS: Henri LeBeau [adoptive brother, deceased], Julien Boudreaux [brother-in-law, deceased] IMPORTANT RELATIVES: Etienne Marceaux [cousin, deceased] IMPORTANT PERSON: BellaDonna Boudreaux [ex-wife] OVERALL HISTORY: The early years of Remy LeBeau were hard. He was born with eerie red eyes and, the city being big on superstition and legend, believed him to be evil. His own parents abandoned him at the hospital where he spent many sleepless nights. However, he inexplicably caught the attention of an underground power in New Orleans known as The Antiquary. The Antiquary kidnapped Remy from the hospital with the intention to sell him off later. That was their thing: the stealing and selling of children. They referred to the child as 'le diable blanc', in reference to his glowing red eyes. They believed he was the one who was prophecized to unite the Guilds. The Antiquary were in cahoots with the Thieves' Guild and their grandmaster, Jean-Luc LeBeau, had no other choice. He agreed to their terms. Refusal to do so would've meant a split from their organization. However, Jean-Luc didn't feel right about selling the child to crooks and decided to take him in and raise him as his own. The Thieves' Guild watched over Remy, protecting him from others. Remy didn't even meet Jean-Luc until later in life. He was brought up on the streets of Louisiana where he had to steal to survive. Remy was a fierce little thief, stealing food and moving up to pick-pocketing from the wealthy. When he reached the age of ten, the Guild were instructed to arrange for Remy to steal from Jean-Luc. Since Remy hadn't seen much of the Guildmaster, it seemed easy enough. Remy attempted to pick his pocket and was caught by the man who explained to the boy just exactly who he was. After that, Jean-Luc adopted the child as his own son and inducted him into the Thieves' Guild. During his time with the Guild, Remy learned exceptional mastery in the art of thievery. He acquired a lot of useful skills and the tools necessary to become a professional thief like his 'father'. One of his earliest missions was with his cousin, Etienne Marceaux, and they were instructed to attend a ritual initiation called the 'Tithing' to appease the benefactor known as Candra; but they were given ulterior motives. Remy and Etienne broke into Candra's mansion with specific instructions to steal her prized chalice. But Candra naturally caught them and punished them for their treachery by selling them to a disfigured mutant slaver known as The Pig. The Pig kept them in holding pens and was cruel and ruthless toward them, berating them constantly. Pig intended to market them as boy soldiers to various criminal organizations. But one day, Remy decided to use his 'gift' to free himself and his cousin from their holding pen. He didn't tell anyone about such a unique power out of fear. But their escape did not go unheeded as Pig was surprisingly fast and easily caught up to them before they could make their escape. He had them cornered, ready to trounce, when all of a sudden Remy found a loose playing card on the floor and picked it up. The card began to glow with a pink energy by his touch alone and this distracted the slaver long enough for the mutant to hurl the playing card at his face, exploding on impact. Pig lost an eye from the attack. Etienne was the first one out but he slipped off the edge of the cliff with Remy following close behind. Both hit the sea to safety but Etienne ended up drowning to death. Remy was found and rescued by the Guild. Remy blamed himself for his cousin's death and he couldn't live it down. Jean-Luc assured him he did all he could do but Remy held himself responsible. Later, Remy became a full-fledged member of the Guild due to his bravery and his loyalty to the clan. As a test of his skills, Remy was sent to Paris, France to retrieve a priceless object known as the L'etroile du Tricherie, a prized necklace. He learned upon arriving there that a beautiful con artist by the name of Genevieve Darceneaux had stolen the necklace. Remy decided he wanted to steal the jewel his way by using his skills of charm to con the con artist out of the jewel; his brother, Henri, was against the idea. Little did the thief know that the original owner of the jewel had hired out someone else to retrieve it. Genevieve was attacked in an alley by the vicious mercenary but Remy came to her rescue and formed a bond with the young woman. Once he reached the end of his con, retrieving the necklace and abandoning her, the mercenary made his move. He revealed himself as Sabretooth and played this whole thing out like a game of cat-and-mouse rather than just stolen goods. Sabretooth kidnapped both Genevieve and Henri LeBeau and used them as bait in order to lure Remy and the necklace to him. One he arrived, Remy was given a difficult choice of who he wanted to save in exchange for the necklace. Remy made his choice, difficult as it was, which resulted in the loss of both Genevieve and the necklace. It was his first exposure to the vicious mutant and the two formed a strong rivalry with one another as a result. He and Henri retreated back to Louisiana. The Assassins Guild, a rival clan, finally wanted to reconcile and the head of the Assassins made plans for Remy and his granddaughter to wed. It was a peace pact that Remy was unaware of that called for him to marry a rival of the Thieves' Guild, one of the Assassins' own, BellaDonna Boudreaux. Deep down, Remy had no interest in her whatsoever. This caused a further, more violent rivalry between the two Guilds and BellaDonna was conflicted, yet bitter and wanted Remy all for herself; to force him into marriage. A ceremony took place to join the two Guilds together once and for all but Remy didn't want it. Thankfully, Julien showed up and crashed the ceremony. Her brother was vocally against the ceremony from the get go. After Julien challenged Remy to a duel, he killed Julien in a means of self-defense which in turn got him banished from New Orleans, as well as losing all communication with the Thieves' Guild and Jean-Luc. He was excommunicated and sent out on his own. For several months, Gambit wandered the world as he decided to use his skills to earn him big money. He had to survive somehow and figured making quick, easy money through hustling would be no issue. He frequented casinos all over the world but hit it big in Vegas. Remy utilized his sleight-of-hand technique to hustle many wealthy people out of their cash. He was swift, hustling the undeserving out of that which they cared nothing about. They often threw down a grand like it was twenty-five cents. Gambit wanted his cut. It was around this time that he started to feel a sudden increase in his power level, noticing certain things. His power was becoming more uncontrollable and it was hurting him in more than one way. During his adventures, Gambit came across a mutant named Scalphunter. Scalphunter suggested that he see a geneticist known as Nathaniel Essex. Essex operated on Gambit, removing the portion of his brain that was causing the sudden increase in his power. Essex successfully reduced Gambit's power level so that it could be used safely once again. But there was some fine print that Gambit forgot about. Essex wanted him to repay his debt in full. He had a mission for the young thief. Gambit led a team of savage mutants called the Marauders deep into the underground where the mission was genocide. At first, Gambit didn't realize this but it became clear as soon as the team started slaughtering Morlocks left and right. Thankfully, he saved a Morlock child named 'Sarah' before she was injured. He was confused and this act of mass murder angered Gambit to the point where he refused to pay the debt he owed, and Essex had him gutted. Gambit's old nemesis, Sabretooth, was more than happy to gash the Cajun and he was left for dead in the underground. Gambit was able to save at least one of them, and that kept him going. It was around this time that Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants began their crusade against the perils of humanity. They proved formidable but a wise and brilliant mutant known as Professor X had his band of mutants combat Magneto and his henchmen. Gambit was left injured and bleeding but he approached the school that Professor X operated and collapsed on the doorstep of the institute. Xavier had his students aid Gambit where the Cajun was taken down into the infirmary wing of the school. There, Gambit was allowed to heal and was soon rejuvenated, fully healed. He met the various mutants on the team and was informed that Xavier's School was a place for all mutantkind to be themselves without humanity taking up arms against them. It was a safe haven for mutants. Initially, Gambit wasn't interested but was given the offer of staying with them. Gambit remained with them for a while as a recruit, and this lasted for several months. But at some point he departed from the team and decided that being a loner was just too hard a habit to break, feeling that being ordered around wasn't his style. Gambit left the school and headed back to Louisiana where he used a different alias, going by the name 'Robert Lord'. It was his way of masking his presence in the state he was excommunicated from; as well as his old Guildsmen. Gambit took to hustling. Meanwhile, Stryker and his small army began harassing the X-Men and fellow mutants alike. Stryker was going to a war; a personal war with mutantkind. He ended up stealing the secrets of Cerebro to create his own sick, twisted version of it dubbed 'Dark Cerebro'. In Louisiana, Gambit had been playing a winning hand when all of a sudden an agonizing pain shot through his body. Gambit fell to the floor of the dive in immense pain. Stryker had activated Dark Cerebro, causing Gambit to both lose his footing and his money. Soon the effects wore off once the X-Men and Brotherhood stopped Stryker's evil plans and reversed the effects. The men who split up Gambit's money soon suffered the same pain, allowing him to retrieve his money. The mutant thief hitched his way back to New York with the intention of rejoining the team. They allowed him back into their ranks with open arms. Gambit rejoined, gradually becoming a member of the main team. His status as a recruit was no more and he had been promoted. Gambit immediately took issue with fellow teammate, Wolverine. He wasn't trusted by the feral mutant and this caused friction. They often let out their aggression in Danger Room simulations. Both were formidable combatants and there was no clear winner. The team had experienced the recent loss of Jean Grey, who sacrificed herself to save the Blackbird full of her allies, and the departure of Kurt Wagner. A year had passed since the incident at Alkali Lake and mutant hatred had increased tenfold. Riots were started, angered humans were sick of the mutants taking their jobs and being forced to live among them. Some of the mutants retaliated with riots of their own, causing more tension. The X-Men soon lost Scott Summers who went out on his own to find Jean where she had last been seen. To their surprise, Jean wasn't dead and in fact had protected herself in a cocoon of her own energy. However, Scott never returned. Wolverine and Storm were sent to retrieve him and Jean but found only Jean's body. Scott was gone. Jean was brought back to the school where Gambit noticed a considerable change in Jean's attitude and personality. It didn't take long for Magneto and his Brotherhood to take advantage of her more ruthless demeanor and Jean soon joined their ranks. Xavier was destroyed by her unimaginable power and the X-Men had lost their greatest mentor. A ceremony was held for Professor X while the Brotherhood greatly increased their army. The X-Men, led by Wolverine, decided to locate Jean and try to bring her back home. They ended up facing off with the Brotherhood on the same island that was producing 'the cure' for mutantkind, Alcatraz Island. The mutants were sick of 'the cure' talk and Magneto decided to do something about it. But the X-Men were there to stop him. After a grueling battle, Magneto was finally defeated when Beast and Wolverine worked together to stop him. Back at the school, Gambit remained behind and protected the students from a slew of mutant thugs working for the Brotherhood. Upon returning, the X-Men had yet another loss in their ranks; this time more permanent. Jean Grey/Phoenix was seemingly killed when Wolverine plunged his unbreakable claws through her abdomen to 'release' her from such a powerful bond. It seemed that the team just couldn't win and Gambit considered leaving the team himself. This was too much to handle for the Cajun, seeing all of his friends dying left and right. But in the darkest hour, the brightest light can shine through and give you hope. This was the case for the team when Moira revealed to them that Xavier was, in fact, very alive. It seemed fate had mercy on the X-Men. Gambit decided to remain with them, resisting the option to leave. Around this time, SHIELD contacted the X-Men with an offer to align with one another as a force of true heroism. Together, they could stop the perils of villainy. After the invasion and subsequent attack in Manhattan both the government and other heroes have started to work together to prevent another tragic occurrence from happening again. The Avengers were appointed to the X-Men and Gambit developed a rivalry with resident marksman, Clint Barton aka Hawkeye. Both teams remain tense against one another but realize that the threat is imminent and villains from all over will use their uneasy alliance against them. Currently, Gambit isn't in favor of teaming with the Avengers, feeling as if they were sent there to babysit the mutant heroes. His mysterious and shady past puts him in quite the position because Gambit still isn't fully trusted. By any of them. Let the games begin.
