El has been with the site for nearly two years now and has continued to prove her value. Currently, she is heading up our site event, Battle for Liberterram, on top of keeping up with her own personal plots.
Lux's posts are all wonderful to read. She has done a wonderful job of grasping the new universe and incorporating Peggy into it.
It's good to see Spidey back on the site. Watching him deal with the universe shift in his own snarky way has been nothing short of entertaining.
Eight O'Clock on the Dot!

Powers & Abilities:
Able to generate brightly colored bursts of plasma energy shot through her hands in varying degrees of intensity and size. These bursts take whatever shape Jubilee decides and are aptly named 'fireworks'. It has been speculated by some that Jubilee has the potential to be one of the most powerful mutants due to the range her bursts can take: small blinding or concussive blasts to something closer to a subatomic level, more or less making her a walking atomic bomb. Current recorded effects through training and experimentation: blinding, concussive, burning/scalding skin, detonation and disintegration of solid objects, shattering of metallic objects such as bolts and locks, near atomic force, though the latter appears to have scared her. The full nature of her abilities are as yet unknown.
+ A good party: It’s a great place to just let loose and dance away any troubles that might have built up over a week or more. Surrounded by friends, friends you haven’t met, loud music, good drink, and cute boys? What isn’t to love?
+ Gymnastics: Before everything changed, it was thought that Jubilee might make it to the Olympic level. Particularly on the uneven parallel and floor routines. The burn of a good workout, the finesse and grace of a well trained body, but more importantly: the feeling of flying.
+ Shopping: A self proclaimed shopaholic, Jubes can often be found in high end boutiques or the less pricy consignment shops. She loves hunting for a good bargain as much as the next person and finds drifting through racks of clothes, shoes, or books to be a therapy worthy of the greats. More, it is a way to keep her mother close and it was one of the many things they had done together in abundance.
+ Jasmine scents: It reminds her of her mother.
+ Winning: You can’t win every battle, but when you do the victory is oh-so sweet. Regardless of who was or was not there to see it. It’s an accomplishment. Jubilee keeps a journal of her wins and losses both in her personal and her life as a modern day adventurer.
+ B and C movies: They’re perfect for staying in and gorging yourself on pizza and soda.
- The whole orphan thing: Her childhood was ripped away in series of events that have scared the woman who presents as carefree. She’s learned to make herself a new family that she fondly calls ‘Tribe’, but she will never forget that moment.
- Too-shrill voices: They great on her nerves and are as bad as nails on a chalkboard.
- Agents who should keep their hands to themselves: In her short time back in LA Jubes had one of these. An Agent who sat on her headshots and resume to try and use them as leverage to get her to sleep with him. There’s plenty of other sleaze out there, but that in particular gets to her.
- Flat soda: it’s just gross and always an unpleasant surprise
- Cold Winters: A native Southern Californian snow wasn’t a thing she was really tortured with until she was into her teenage years. The fascination with it died very quickly when she felt the bitter chill herself.
* Tenacious: having gone through what she believed was the worst parts of life so young left Jubilee with a desire to never give up on anything she wanted. Life was too short for that.
* Physically versatile: trained as a gymnast, a skilled rollerblader, and trained in practical hand-to-hand combat, Jubilation is quite versatile which comes in handy in all sorts of situations. In the field or on a set.
* Battlefield First-Aid: trained in first aid and CPR for high-stress situations where one doesn’t always have what’s needed and must make do.
* Cute males: Often a distraction in situations where she shouldn’t be distracted. This has lead to injury in the field previously and remains a point of opportunity for improvement.
* Squishy: Regardless of her training and mutation, Jubilee is still very much human+. She does not possess an accelerated healing factor, nor can she create a shield about her personage in any form. She is, therefore, an easier target.
*Not the most observant: Inspite of her flirtation with homelessness, Jubilee is not the most observant person in the room. Especially not for someone who is supposed to be a member of a specialized team.
More than anything Jubilation wants to be a hero. She wants to be someone that would have made her parents proud. To stop someone else from having to feel that sting of loss so early. To maintain the peace, and defend the earth from whatever comes its way.
Too, Jubilation would very much like to make it as an actress, a model, or both. She’s young enough that she believes she can do it, and has the tenacity to back that up. The only thing that could really pose as a viable conflict is her stronger desire to be a hero.
Everything she loved was ripped away from her once, and there’s a very real part of Jubilation that is terrified that’s going to happen again.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Born of privilege and thrown through a gauntlet, Jubilation managed to maintain a carefree air. It wasn't easy, not after her family lost everything when the stocks crashed, and then were accidentally murdered by hitmen after their neighbors who were, unfortunately, also Lees. She had to go on, had to push through. She had mourned, did mourn, in private.
Not one to let people see anything other than what she wants them to, Jubes comes across as younger than she is and someone who doesn't take the world as seriously as she should. At twenty-six she should be more settled into her life, have a clear career path that isn't jumping from audition to assignment to audition. Crime fighting didn't pay the bills, but she loved it. Allowing the assumption that the adventure was what drove her, Jubes felt a deep seated need to help people - particularly other mutants.
It wasn't until she'd been taken by Stryker on the attack at the Mansion, and her subsequent rescue that her drive to better herself as a mutant and a person really picked up. Not that anyone at the time, or after, could really tell. It was better to be underestimated in the field by those she fought. It gave her the upper hand.
She's known wealth, great loss, hunger, fear, and desperation. She's known, too, determination, strength, honor, and a driving desire to make things better for herself and those around her.
Fiercely loyal to the X-Men, Jubes answers any call they give, and is often among the first to sign up for new missions.
Los Angeles, CA
New York, NY
Dr. Lee (father, deceased) Mrs. Lee (mother, deceased)
Aunt Hope: alive and well and Jubilee’s only remaining relative though she is quite the recluse anymore. Formerly an assassin who faked her own death to get out of the business.
Completely single, but enjoying every minute of it
Life started out better than a lot of people got. Incredibly wealthy Chinese immigrant parents who gave their only daughter every advantage. An amazingly talented gymnast with the potential to go Olympic. Beloved of her friends, a partier who thrived in the social scene and was easily swayed by her friends for the childish fear of being disliked, not fitting in, or being left behind.
Bowing to the nature of peer pressure, Jubilee started with petty theft with her best friend. She wasn't very good at it and was the one among the group who always ended up being caught. After the fourth or fifth time her parents began to discuss what might be done. Afraid for their daughter's future and what juvenile detention might do to her.
They ultimately decided to ban her from ever meeting with those particular friends again and moved Jubilation to a new school with a heavy leaning on the arts.
Jubes flourished, taking to the new school and the new friends who were less criminalistic in their hobbies. She went out, practiced hard, and her grades remained at a steady high that her parents could be proud of.
Everything was going well until it all came shattering down. First the stock markets crashed and the Lee's financial stability with it. There were other investments, but they didn't hold up to muster either. It wasn't long after that when Dr. and Mrs. Lee were murdered in what appeared to be a car accident but was later discovered to be a serious case of mistaken identity and assassins after the neighbors.
Torn by grief, foster care was an ill fit and Jubilation ran away to the only other place that had ever truly felt comfortable. The Mall. It was as close to perfect as she was going to get in her young, poorly thought out plan. There was food, pockets to pick, clothes to steal off the rack, and shelter from the elements though Los Angeles didn't have a whole lot of the later.
It was there, within the back halls that her powers manifested for the first time. Cornered by security guards who had seen her stealing and squatting back in the cages where decorations for various holidays and other maintenance needs were kept the plasma bursts reacted and burned the faces and eyes of the men and women who were only trying to do their jobs. Still deep in the grief of her loss and the inability to process it healthily, Jubilee had pushed herself into believing she was fine.
Mutant. Orphan. And now a criminal she had to run again.
Though it wasn't a terribly long run as she was quickly picked up by a small group representing the Xavier Institute. It didn't take a strong wit to know an advantage and an out when it was presented to her and Jubilee took it.
Life at the school was a great adjustment, and going through the motions of a normal teenager while still working on her grief and learning how to get the plasma bursts under control was the hardest thing she'd ever done. And hopefully ever have to do.
Grief counseling helped, though the teenager was still presenting as a nonchalant devil-may-care type. She laughed loud, sang louder, and found friends among the students.
It took time, and though she still mourns the loss of her family, Jubilee was starting to come into her own when Stryker took the mansion by force. Captured and held at the base on Alkali Lake she suffered more cruelties that served to harden her. There had been combat training and ever her talent as a gymnast and her mutation hadn't been able to help her then. She had started to prepare herself for the worst: death as a rat in a cage.
When the X-Men arrived in a rescue assault of their own, she saw what it was to be a hero. To weigh the risk and take it anyway. That was a defining moment for her: that was who she wanted to be more than anything.
Once recovered she did exactly that. Throwing herself further into her lessons and training, but never losing the light hearted demeanor. It was a weapon in its own right.
Dreams evolve and after graduation Jubilee had a mind turn her talent towards acting in L.A. the New York winters being too cold and far too grey for her liking. She swore to Professor Xavier and the other standing members of the X-Men that she'd be there if they had want or need of her. That she wanted that more than she wanted her name in lights, but she had to try the later because the former didn't pay the bills.
One sleazy and manipulative agent and two years later, Jubilee found herself back in New York, bleary winters and all, with a story she kept to herself. The Agent had tried to coerce her into sexual relations by sitting on her resume and refusing to shop her around. His advances had become more physical until there was a moment where her temper snapped and used her abilities against him. There had been other ways to discourage him, but she'd gone for the easy and in that moment realized she needed the guidance and morale influence of her old school.
Still holding onto the idea of being an actress or a model or something glamorous that would be flexible with adventuring, Jubes rented an apartment with three other would be starlets in New York, did much better with her choices in auditions and agents and began to flourish again.
During the attack on New York, Jubilee had been at a small photoshoot and in the chaos left to help as best she could. Finding people in the rubble, using her plasmic blasts to defend and release those trapped. There were skirmishes all over, though there one group who certainly did what they did. She fought as the tide shifted, determined to be what she had striven to be from that moment at Alkali Lake.
Months later, while things were still being pieced back together, she volunteered for the Mutant Unit as soon as she got word. Yes, absolutely yes was she ready to stand to defend, protect, and do whatever it took to make sure people were safe from any such assault again.
