[PTabbedContent][PTab=GENERAL INFORMATION] CHARACTER INFO: NAME: Anthony Edward Stark ALIAS: Tony; Iron Man AGE: 44 OCCUPATION: Owner, Stark Industries; CEO, Stark Industries; R&D, Stark Industries; Consultant, S.H.I.E.L.D.; Avenger MEMBER GROUP: Avenger POWERS AND ABILITIES: While Stark doesn't have any superpowers, he has a genius-level intellect and is one of the smartest people alive. This has allowed him to build the Iron Man suit, a high-tech prosthetic sheath that allows him to become essentially a living weapon. Possibly the most advanced weapon on Earth, it includes repulsor technology, miniature missiles, flares, lasers, and smart-targeting mini-guns, although there’s really no telling what else he installs in any given version of the suit. The suit also provides Stark with superhuman strength and durability as well as giving him the power of flight. In addition, it has a life support and environmental system that allows him to dive into the deep ocean or fly into the upper atmosphere. It seems to be pseudo-space flight enabled, but the only time this theory was tested he passed out. Stark has implanted cybernetics under his skin to more fully attain interface with the Iron Man suit, which means that he can easily summon the suit to him and can command it with the ease of a thought. In addition, the suit (or suits) can house Stark’s highly advanced Artificial Intelligence program, called J.A.R.V.I.S.. The A.I. assumes much of the control of the suit and makes sure all the systems are functioning the way Stark needs them to so that he can focus on the other matters at hand. PLAYBY: Robert Downey, Jr OOC INFO: PLAYER NAME: Erin AGE: 23 GENDER: female TIMEZONE: EST OTHER CHARACTERS: Charlie, Clint, Baldr, Kyle, Iimlaunim, Morgan [/PTab][PTab=PERSONNEL ASSESSMENT] PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: LIKES: Pepper Potts; Pepper is one of his oldest friends, and he might occasionally distance himself from her to protect her, but he knows that without her he'd be lost. She doesn't currently work for him, so he doesn't see her as often as he'd like, but when he does he has a tendency to brighten up, just a little. Robots; Tony loves nothing more than he loves tech, and the robots that he's built over the years are more like children to him than machines. Tony's been experimenting with simple AI since he built DUM-E when he was a kid and he loves watching the robots he builds learn and grow. No matter how many times he threatens them, he would never actually get rid of them. Workshop; If he could get away with it, Tony would spend all of his time in his workshop tinkering away on the Iron Man suits and his robots. Its where he's happiest and where he feels the most useful. Avengers; He'd never admit it to their faces, but Tony has a fondness for the team he worked with in the Battle of New York. They work together well under pressure, and in addition are an incredibly talented bunch. Tony likes to surround himself with people that know what they're doing and there's no denying that the Avengers are talented and knowledgeable people. Intelligence; Whether human or artificial Tony loves surrounding himself with smart people (and things). He finds society parties irritatingly dull and hates being stuck in meetings with his board or senate hearings. In addition he makes a point to study the intelligent people he meets so that he can improve his AI processes. JARVIS; His AI's personality is based on that of the old butler his family had, who raised him for much of his childhood. Edwin Jarvis retired a few years before the Iron Man was created when it became obvious that Pepper could take over the parts of his role that Tony couldn't figure out himself, but Tony still sees him on occasion. With Jarvis not taking care of him anymore it makes Tony feel better to have JARVIS calling him on his crap. DISLIKES: Tabloids; The thing that Tony hates most about his rather public life is that the tabloids won't keep their noses out of it. It was amusing when he was younger and trying to piss off his father or before he started learning responsibility, but now its simply obnoxious for everything he does to be dissected by idiots. Orders; Tony's used to being the smartest man in the room, and as such others telling him what he should do does not sit well with him. After all, he's smarter than anyone giving him orders so shouldn't it be the other way around? He'll concede to others in certain situations, but for the most part if you give him an order, he'll just do the opposite to piss you off. Loki; Bruce was right, you can smell the crazy from Loki. Tony doesn't trust the guy and he doesn't know what to think about Loki's supposed change of heart. He's inclined not to believe it, but there are more important things to focus on at the moment so Tony's willing to let it slide as long as the Asgardian's actively helping. He still doesn't like him though. Socialites; He used to spend a lot of time with the high-class morons of society (and sleep with a lot of socialites), but Tony is exceedingly bored by listening to them, or even just being around them. He'll avoid the high-society parties whenever possible, or get out as soon as he'd made his appearances. Government; They keep trying to steal his tech, and on top of that can't seem to do anything right. Now, if Tony was in charge maybe the government could be useful, but he's not, so they're not. One day maybe he'll fix that. Thieves; Tony's tech is his life, and those that try to take it or copy it earn a special place on his shit list. The idea of others essentially breaking into his brain discomforts him to an extreme degree and he can't stand it. STRENGTHS: Genius Intellect; He’s one of the smartest men in the world, especially if you ask him, and well-trained in multiple fields, including engineering and physics. In addition he displays intuitive knowledge of how things work, resulting in unorthodox inventions and a nearly unrivaled ingenuity in the field of engineering. Stark can memorize large amounts of data easily, meaning that he can also gain new areas of expertise almost overnight, should he be interested enough. Business Acumen; Tony grew Stark Industries from the fledgling company of his father’s era to the juggernaut it is today. His quick mind leads to good investments and other business decisions without much need for him to agonize over them. He calls himself a ‘Futurist,’ as he trades on what he predicts will happen in the industry, with startling accuracy. Tactical Mind; His intelligence also lends itself to a strong tactical mind, leading to quickly-built and changed strategies even in stressful situations. Hand-to-Hand Combat; Tony has trained extensively in hand-to-hand and while there are many people he wouldn’t be able to beat in a fight, he can hold his own extremely well. WEAKNESSES: Heart Condition; While the Arc Reactor was removed, his heart still bears the scars of what happened to him. Its weaker than a normal heart and Tony sometimes worries about what will happen to him should it stop beating, without the Arc Reactor there to start it again. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; In the aftermath of the Chitauri attack on New York, Tony was faced with severe PTSD symptoms. He refused to acknowledge them, and still does. Although they are not as severe as they were in the direct aftermath, there are spikes on occasion due to him never having actually confronted them directly. Alcoholism; He’ll never admit it, but Stark’s addictive personality has led to a severe alcohol dependence. If kept relatively stress-free, he tends to not touch the drinks, however his life is commonly the opposite of stress-free and as such he can often be found with a drink in hand. He has at times claimed that drinking clears his head, but excessive drinking has caused major problems, especially considering that he will still pilot the Iron Man suit while inebriated. Pride; Stark is prideful to the point of narcissism, and it can often be his downfall. He’s confident in his own abilities, often to the point where he won’t consider the ideas of others valid. This can lead to fractures when he’s asked to work in a team environment. Very occasionally his pride can blind him to flaws in his own ideas, which can cause major blowbacks, considering that he deals in high-tech instruments and weaponry. GOALS: Protection; Tony's main goal is to protect those that are close to him. There aren't many people that he can call his friends and family and he will protect the ones he can with all he's got. Its the reason he keeps the Iron Man suits and its the reason he's still fighting against the Chitauri. Power; Tony is tired of the pull that S.H.I.E.L.D. has over his life, and while he understands that he needs to help them, he exerts the power he has managed to keep over them whenever he can. He wants to have the power and control over his own life back. visibility; In the past years Tony's done a lot to protect the world and make it safer without much credit, and he'd like for more people to know what he's been doing. He knows that there are some things the public can't know, but he wants more credit where he can get it. FEARS: Suffocation; Ever since going through the portal into space and realizing his suit wasn't quite space-safe, Tony fears losing his ability to breathe again. He sometimes wakes up gasping for breath, afraid that his life is about to end again. Loneliness; He might not like getting close to people or even be able to all that well, but Tony hates the idea of being left alone. Its the reason that he builds things like JARVIS and DUM-E to keep him company. OVERALL PERSONALITY: Tony Stark is simultaneously a man of many mysteries and an open book. Everyone knows who he is and what he’s like; he’s brash, self-centered, intelligent, troublesome, selfless, and selfish. He’s a genius, a billionaire, a playboy, a philanthropist, a superhero, and an inventor. Tony in public is very different from Tony in private, though. In public he’s all of those things; he acts the way people expect him to, and solidifies that expectation so that he can utilize it the next time he needs it. His persona is a carefully constructed mixture of good and bad; he’s always been a heavy drinker and heavy partier, but he also started a charity in his mother’s name that he uses to funnel millions of dollars to charity work. He’s always disrespected authority and talked back to those over his head, but he’s dedicated his life to protecting them and the rest of the citizens of his home country. The Tony that exists in private is a different creature, plagued by insecurities over his father’s legacy and worries as to whether his work with Iron Man will ever make up for all the things he’s done. When Tony has his guard down, he can become a very subdued and somber version of himself, if only for brief periods of time. He doesn’t spend much time alone without work to distract him, but when he does, he dives into the bottle without the intention of surfacing for a while. Tony Stark is a man haunted by his past, present, and future. He did horrible things; he sacrifices to attempt to make it right; and he has no idea if he’s even working in the right direction. He smiles for the cameras and keeps his persona in play, reassuring the public that Tony Stark is here to stay, and throws himself into work so he doesn’t have to think about what that means too hard or too long. HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: BIRTHPLACE: Long Island, New York RESIDENCE: Stark Tower Penthouse, New York City, New York PARENTS: Howard Anthony Walter Stark and Maria Carbonell Stark [both deceased] SIBLINGS: None IMPORTANT RELATIVES: None IMPORTANT PERSON: On-again, off-again girlfriend Pepper Potts; Chauffeur Happy Hogan; Former Butler Edwin Jarvis; Best friend James Rhodes; OVERALL HISTORY: Anthony Edward Stark was the first and only child of Howard and Maria Stark, and he felt that pressure from a young age. His father was distant, and the young Tony attempted anything to impress him, using his abnormal intelligence to build his first circuit board at four and first engine by the time most kids were starting to read. Even these feats weren’t enough to garner the attention he wanted from his father, so he acted out. As he became more problematic he got shipped off to boarding school after boarding school, Howard not wanting to spend the energy to keep up with Tony himself. This didn’t deter Tony from continuing to attempt to impress his father, and he was soon graduating summa cum laude from MIT at seventeen. Howard and Maria were involved in a fatal accident before Tony had even turned twenty-one, and he was devastated by the loss, even though they had never been close his whole life. Once he came of age, he inherited the company, making a name for himself in the same way his father had by making weapons, still seeking the approval he would never receive. Tony advanced the weapons industry by leaps and bounds, picking up personal assistant Pepper Potts, bodyguard and driver Happy Hogan, and Air Force Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes along the way as both employees and friends. During a routine weapons demonstration overseas, the convoy Tony was in was attacked by terrorist organization the Ten Rings, and Tony was taken captive. Their intention was to have him build them a super weapon, but Tony had a different plan. Injured during the ambush, his life was held in the balance by a car battery. Desperation is the father of innovation, however, and Tony soon developed a way to miniaturize his company’s Arc Reactor technology to provide a more stable device to keep his heart pumping. Life no longer as in the balance, Tony focused his efforts on a flight-enabled suit of armor to get him and fellow prisoner Ho Yinsen out of captivity and back home. Their escape attempted ended with Yinsen sacrificing his life for Tony’s freedom and Tony was found in the desert by Rhodes soon after and brought home, where he promptly shut down his company’s weapons manufacturing divisions, horrified by what he’s seen his weapons doing overseas. After a re-design of the suit he’d built to escape, he continued to hunt down and destroy terrorist cells, making it a mission to right the wrongs he felt he’d allowed to happen. Soon a snake among them was revealed when Obadiah Stane, longtime business partner of the Stark family, showed his true colors and wish to kill Tony to take over the company. Tony confronted him in the Iron Man armor, whose prototype Stane had used to build a suit of his own, and the resulting battle ended in Stane’s death. It was then that SHIELD stepped in, hoping to control the situation, but Tony had never been good at following instructions and promptly announced that the heroic figure they’d dubbed Iron Man had in fact been him. The government began attempting to crack down on Tony’s right to his Iron Man armor, while SHIELD was courting him for consulting as well as membership in a program called the Avengers Initiative. Tony’s antics became more reckless as he realized the suit that had saved his life was starting to kill him via palladium poisoning and distance grew between him and the few friends he kept close. SHIELD sent Natalia Romanova to watch over him undercover and make sure he didn’t kill himself and Tony handed his CEO title over to Pepper as his concentration started to falter due to his erratic physical and mental state. One altercation with an Ivan Vanko and one disastrous birthday celebration later and Fury himself was stepping in to kick Tony into gear by handing over some of his father’s old belongings. The reminder of his father and how disappointed he’d be in Tony for not solving his problem spurred him into action and soon he fixed his Arc Reactor with the help of his fathers notes, and not a moment too soon as he was able to intercept Vanko’s attack on the revitalized Stark Expo. Alongside James Rhodes in the newly-branded War Machine armor, he took down Vanko. Tony found balance between his company, Iron Man, and SHIELD then, falling into a pattern of assistance and baiting with the secretive organization until the Cube was stolen from under their noses. The Avengers Initiative was activated and Tony was soon fighting alongside the ragtag group of heroes, and found he actually enjoyed having them in the fight with him. The Battle of New York brought with it an almost-heroic sacrifice on Tony’s part and in the aftermath he started struggling with severe PTSD symptoms, holing himself up in his lab more and more and churning out suit after suit, as if the more he had, the better protected he’d be. The Mandarin coming into the picture served as a brief distraction from the spiral he’d instigated, and he pulled himself together long enough to take care of the Mandarin. In the aftermath of the confrontation, Tony destroyed many of the suits he’d been obsessively building since New York, deciding that it was time to start over with a clean slate. He shifted the company’s headquarters to Stark Tower in New York and had surgery done to remove the Arc Reactor from his chest. The operation gave him an odd sense of freedom, now that he was no longer tied so closely to the Iron Man, and Tony cut back on the time he spent in the suit, deciding to focus more on bringing the company to the forefront of modern technology and creating an entire Stark brand for the public, the highest end consumer electronics available, in addition to other things to introduce down the line. His work coming along, Tony was glad to be building himself a legacy he could be proud of, throwing himself into that instead of worrying over everything else in his life. Still splitting his time between assisting S.H.I.E.L.D. and growing his company, Tony decided that his focus needed to be on the Iron Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. and the idea of Pepper being put in harm's way because of that was unacceptable to him. The break-up was unpleasant, to say the least, and she wound up leaving the company, putting him back in the CEO seat and minus an assistant again. They eventually got back onto okay terms and Tony was confident that she was safer with some distance between them. The day that Howard and Maria were set to die is the day that everything really changed from the story Tony knows. Instead of being killed by the Winter Soldier, a combination of factors combined to break through his programming and Howard was able to help his old friend recover. A few years later Howard became Head of State and Stark Industries went to Tony, who was still only 22 at the time. During these intervening years, much investigation was done into those that could have wanted Howard dead and had ways of passing information along to Hydra, but nothing was found.
Much of Tony’s history at that point was the same as what had happened in the universe that he knew, except that his parents were still around and so was Barnes.
Ill-fated flings are something of a thing with this Tony as well, between Rumiko Fujikawa in college, Sunset Bain in his early career as CEO, and the woman known now as Madame Masque later on, once he'd become Iron Man.
The incident overseas that turned him into Iron Man happened 13 years ago, when Tony was 27, in a war zone near Vietnam in the Asiatic City-States. The Ten Rings were still responsible, and Tony still ended up with an Arc Reactor in his chest and three months of captivity under his belt.
Coming back a changed man, Tony threw himself into work in addition to becoming Iron Man. The showdown with Stane happened in much the same fashion, as did Tony’s reveal of himself as Iron Man. Vanko even surfaced, though without the assistance of Hammer this time.
Tony was even around to run with the Avengers for a long stretch of time before deciding that the team thing wasn't quite for him, though he's still friends with them and helps out on occasion.
Things change even further on the day five years ago that the paternity test for one Alice Moore was discovered and brought to his attention. Agreeing to testing again, Tony was thrilled to discover that he did, indeed, have a daughter. Deciding to ease back on his partying ways so that he could be a Father, Tony jumped into things headfirst. His relationship with his own parents being decidedly better in this world, he was much more at ease with the idea of raising a child himself - especially with the most difficult years out of the way.
The alien attack on Manhattan four years ago led to a more cosmic awareness and Tony dedicated his time to the ‘building things for the army and SHIELD’ role. While he still works as Iron Man within Manhattan and the New York Metroplex or when friends call, he's taken on more of a support role.
Eventually, with the help of Reed Richards, he was able to figure out a way to remove the reactor from his chest and get back to normal. Or as normal as his life could be. It was through discussion with Richards over the course of working with him that he came up with the idea of the Illuminati - a group of science-minded individuals that meet as the ideamakers of the future.
Tony is disappointed to discover that he and Darcy are nothing but a holiday party fling in this universe and that while not as bad as before, this version of him is still something of a womanizer.
